Season 2 Is Superbowl Alias' Last Chance?

I've been thinking that maybe the After-Superbowl show is Alias' last chance to increase viewership. In my opinion, if its ratings don't improve after that, it will be canceled by ABC. I know ABC recently said that Alias was one of its three dramas that "worked" but it also said it was disappointed with the shows dropping rating. If it was cancelled, that would be such a horrible tragedy, as Alias is obviously the most dynamic, exciting, and intelligent show on TV. I don't understand why more people don't watch! I've been very anxious lately because Alias is my favorite show and I'd be distraught if it was canceled. What do you think?

I really hope, as i'm sure all of us do, that it'll up the show's ratings...i would just sit down on the floor and cry if it got cancelled!!!

I hope this will give Alias a ratings boost.

The Superbowl ep is ep 13 right? Moving.

OH MY GOD!!! IF IT CANCELS I"LL DIE!!!!!!!!! I love this show WAY to much for it to be canceld. It's gotten this far, it can't be canceld!!!!!!! It's gotten Jennifer Garner really popular, they're coming out with books and cards and toys and shirts and god even a DVD!!! If it's popular enough to get all that, how could they cancel it!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????????????

That would be horrible. ABC seems to have a tendency to cancel shows way before their time. Considering the Super Bowl is usually one of the most watched events of the year, it will (hopefully) bring in enough viewership that the idea of shutting it down wont even enter their minds.

I know that the SuperBowl always has lots of good commercials, I hope they show a good preview for Alias to catch peoples attention. And maybe they'll do a little skit like they did last year!!

The post-Superbowl slot is very much caveted in the TV industry. I highly doubt ABC would give the spot to Alias just to see if it would "sink or swim." Besides, Alias always gets very good press depite of its lukewarm ratings; so, ABC would at least try to give it an easier time slot if ratings ever becomes a worry.

I hope you're all right! Alias is such a great show and to lose it would be so awful. It hasn't gotten nearly the recognition (from viewers and award shows) that it deserves. Hopefully ABC won't make Alias the next casualty of it's mostly dismal 2002-2003 season. Long live ALIAS!!!!

I really don't think ABC can cancel Alias ! ABC doesn't have a lot of good shows out there - and - what will they replace it with !! :P

Alias is one of the best shows they have - if they cancel it I'm sure they'll regret it later on !

I think i would cry for a week if they cancelled ALIAS. Im 22 and I not ashamed to say it...IM OBSESSED. Ok maybe a little. I dont think they will cancel it, ALIAS ratings have been going up, and they wouldnt have given them the post superbowl spot if they didnt think it was a great show. I saw an interview where jennifer garner was talking about when they got the call telling them that they got the post superbowl spot, and all of the cast was pretty excited. My friends think im a total nerd about alias, but who cares, its a great show, i think the only reason it hasnt caught on as quickly is because its not one of those shows that you can just watch one episode and understand whats going on. For all of us who have seen it from the first episode...U unserstand!!! Which is why i have downloaded every episode, and put them all on video cd's and im forcing everyone i know to watch it from the very first episode. Im doing my part to keep it on the air. BUT, if alias was ever to be cancelled, i'd be the first to go to LA and picket outside the abc studios, WHOS WITH ME?????!!!!

I'm with you! Alias is just too good. Every week I look forward to Sunday, countdown the days till I can see Alias, even if it's a repeat! I'm obsessed too, and I'm not ashamed. There's worse things to be addicted to.

Try not to worry too much yet:

ABC acknowledged that it has three dramas that are "working": The Practice, NYPD Blue, and Alias. NYPD Blue is ancient and The Practice is aging and is considered well past its prime by most critics. Meanwhile, Alias is hailed by critics, near the top of most ten-best lists I've seen and the only series that got any Emmy attention at all for ABC last season. Its ratings may not be what ABC had hoped, but they aren't abominable (thank God!). It's a Touchstone production, so it's owned by Disney, which owns ABC as well. This means that Disney has an interest in keeping the show on ABC a while so that it has a good run for future DVD and other possible franchise tie-ins (and Disney knows from tie-ins, doesn't it? Though it could do a little better ... how about a better selection of posters, for a start ...?).

I think ABC will work hard to keep this series and make it more successful. Putting it--and not Dragnet, Miracles, or one of the other new shows--in the post-Superbowl slot is a signal that this is true. Keep your chins up, folks, and don't lose hope even before the rumors start flying! Even Felicity is showing legs after cancellation!

Maybe with The Sopranos' season finally over, things will ease up a little ...

Very true. ABC could do a lot better by launching a new show instead jumpstarting Alias, a not new (but not old) show, but they chose to give Alias a shot because their hopes are in it.
