A movie directed by Daniel Espinosa
    2017 - Color - Dolby SR - 2.35 : 1

The movie centers on the crew of a space station that discovers a lifeform on Mars. But the entity proves to be not only intelligent but also dangerous.

British release date: March 24, 2017
Us release date: March 24, 2017

Hostile Martians? On Mars? Say it isn't so...
It has decent enough production companies and Ryan Renolds is in it. It is likely to be a fairly well made film. Hopefully we will get to see some cool alien designs?

Has anyone connected current USA politics with FULL DISCLOSURE? I see the possibility of it happening in a few months. It is the only way to make people get along better.

You are trying to say that American Politics will make people live along?

Did this thread take a left-turn somewhere or am I just being caffeine deficient enough to not be following along? :cautious:

I sort of thought it went left when the OP had it as a Sci-Fi movie ;)

Have you seen it yet? From the commercials I can't help but think of sci-horror of days gone by like the Alien.

    Really?

    What part of
The movie centers on the crew of a space station that discovers a lifeform on Mars.
    is anything but science fiction?

As far as I understand the genre, aliens, whether hostile or not, are science fiction.

At first watch I went into this film expecting to be awed with wonder and thrilled with excitement based on the reviews I had read beforehand.
Granted, My first impression was awe and thrill, till I started thinking about what I saw and the reasons the events happened as they were depicted.

Its just another case of lazy writing on a very interesting concept.
I am going to have spoilers so I will hide them from first view in spoiler tags.

Everything was going along fine until the biologist zapped the lifeform with his prod.
One thing about studying a never before encountered organism is to observe for a duration without interaction.
Granted, the timeline of the encounter is not really stated but it is implied to happen consecutively over a relatively short period.
The fact that they initiated an atmosphere and temperature change to try to illicit a response is off scientific protocol and these scientists are implied to be the top of their fields.
They forced incubation then they forced a reaction. They wouldn't do that. Lazy Writing.

Then when the seal was broken and Calvin escaped containment they broke their own firewall. Which would not be done, no matter what. Lazy Writing.

IMdb lists a slew of factual goofs in this film that supports this tendency for lazy writing.

But lets look at the creature design. Why is it that all alien life forms or creatures have tentacles now? Do writers think that tentacles are super-scary?
Calvin is said to be "All Muscle, All Eyes and All Brain". Yet they depict the formation of a head and a specific orientation as it "looked" thru windows and at the people it wanted to consume. During the lame scenes of Calvin moving thru the ship it depicts it moving in a specific direction with a forward facing view. If it was "All Eye" it would have no specific orientation.

The crew does some things that are just too stupid to be expected from a crew in a space station. Things that regular people might do but not things a disciplined crew would do.
Plus the ending twist was not a twist. I knew it was going to happen as soon as they explained their escape plan. Again, Lazy Writing.

While there were many problems with the writing and direction in this film the effects were cool to look at and I love any creatures. I'll watch it again but only to see if I missed something due to my preconceived expectations based on the reviews I had read. I do Loves me some Monsters!

I just watched it and It definitely has a little - "Alien movie franchise" - feel to it. nevertheless I found it somehow entertaining.

Not the best movie but not the worst and to me it wasn't a waste of time watching it.

If you expect a big Sci-fi revaluation and hoping to see something Huge...well... don't. .lol... If you want to see a light sci-fi movie, to me it does the job.
