Martian Heat Ray & Disintegrator Beam

Yet another question has been bothering me... Any ideas about this?

If the aliens have no mouth, and one assumes no vocal chords, then how did it produce the unearthly scream it emitted when Dr. Forrester nailed it with the axe in the farm house?

I'm certian it had some small holes some where on the being to vocalize a scream.

The Martian was curious, I'm surprised, the doc didn't try to communicate with it. I would have tried, but like most people in movies, they either scream or strike out.

I always felt that at that moment when the Martian made contact, he might have been a sympathetic person trying to engage the local inhabitants.

Oh boy, now I want to see the 1953 movie again. :D

I'd watch it with you. It is a favorite of mine as well. I wonder how the movie would have progressed if Dr. Forrester had tried to communicate with me?

Have you ever seen the three hour tv version? It's very low budget, but it's the closest you can get to the original novel (set in the late 18th century). I was lucky to discover a copy on DVD in a bargin bin. I thought it was excellent.

This is shameless self-promotion, but if any authors out there want to submit an SF short story concerning Mars, Third Flatiron is planning an e-anthology for winter 2013. Reading period is July 1 - September 30, for December 1 release. www.thirdflatiron.com
