Apocalyptist
Cadet
I started out in life aspiring to become a doctor, specializing in cancer treatment. About three years into school, I started getting sick. It turns out that I have a rare genetic disease called acute intermittent porphyria, or AIP. It's the same disease that all the myths about vampires and werewolves came from, but I can assure you; it is not as glamorous as they make it seem on the big screen. I'm nauseated all of the time, and the attacks have left me with permanent nerve damage. I had to quit school and work which left me feeling useless.
Everyone said that I should write a book about what I was going through with my disease... That is just not me. Instead, I started writing a Scifi fantasy about a blind kid that had to deal with not living up to his potential because of his blindness. "Dragon Sight". It was a great way for me to vent my own frustrations. The main character, Cal, is blind, but there is a prophecy about him that states that he will overthrow all the kingdoms, and unite the land.
I finished the novel about two weeks ago, and started on the sequel. I've grown a lot as a writer, but I still have oodles to learn. I wrote, "Dragon Sight" originally for me, and maybe those close to me. Everyone says I should publish, so I'm looking into that. At least it would help me feel like a productive member of society again. I get frustrated at not being able to do a lot of the things I wanted to do in life, but I'm finding that I can rearrange my goals and priorities and still feel fulfilled. So... If there is anyone else out there going through tough times, just know; Life changes... Sometimes those changes really do suck, but there is so much to life. Never get caught in the trap of focusing only on the bad.
