Nascar

OK I was suprized not to see a Nascar thing up here already! I love it, I watch it every week! I really like Jimmie J, Jeff Gordan (not Green I hate Jeff Green!), Bobbie L, Ryan N, and Kurt B! Those are my top five I really hate Jr! He's the only other one I hate besides Green! I don't know why I don't like Jr, I just don't I never did and I never will! And I hate green because he took Steve Park's spot and now poor Steve has to drive that ugly car! And Mikey has to redo all of his commrecals-I don't think I spelled that right! So any one other Nascar lovers out there??

You beat me to creating this thread. Hehe, but that's ok. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson are my top two favorite drivers, but I like mostly everyone else though. Drivers on my bad list are robby gordon (Grrrr, I will never forget the Thanksgiving race of two years ago) and ryan newman (b/c I just think he cheats). I watch it every week, too, that's how I escape and just take my mind off things.

How does he cheat? I love Jimmie a little more than Jeff, but I'm not sure why, but I do but those are my top 2! What happened at Thanksgiving two years ago? I don't remember!

I just think he does. Sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to. Two years ago Jeff was in the lead and he ran up on a lapped car and robby came up and booted him outta the way and went on to win.

No you didn't offended me at all I just don't see how somebody that great could cheat! I don't think I saw that race ok put him on my list to hate too! I didn't really like him to strat with but now...! That puts him on my list to hate for sure! Only my mom's side of the family watchs Nascar so when I go over to my Dads mom's house they get all mad at me because I sceam at the TV and then they make my turn it off, but Daddy likes it too! And my mom just sleeps through it, well just as long as we don't yell to loud! The first race I ever really watched was the Daytona 500 I think like two or three years ago and I begged my dad to turn it off and then it happened! Tony fliped over Bobby when he was on fire and I've loved it! But now I can't stop watching it! And sorry I don't really watch Formula One, are those cars like Indy cars? I don't know I've never seen a race sorry!

Also if you're a JR. fan, I don'r know how people could be!, but I hate him I blame all bad things on him so don't get offended! It's just what I do! I just thought you should know, ya know!

without sparking a huge debate in which i will probably get mobbed and run over a few times with nascar cars...why is nascar considered a sport? now, before you bite my head off, i will be the first to say that it takes an unbelievable amount of skill to make and drive the cars...i will also admit that i am fairly ignorant when it comes to nascar and racing in general...so, any responses? and remember, lets keep them as non-threatening and non-violent as possible

That right! Well we both love Jeff! Do you like Jr??
Yup, I like Junior.

And Bevinksi, don't worry, I'm not gonna run you over, but NASCAR is a sport because it takes so much skill and precision to setup a race car and to drive that race car and it takes severe dedication to wanting to race. NASCAR is (I think) more exciting than any other sport. It's growing leaps and bounds everyday.

NASCAR is also a sport b/c the fans are very loyal to their driver, their driver's sponsor, car make and team. You also have to take into account that it gets very hot inside that car, at least 125 degrees in the car and drivers actually lose weight when they drive so they have to be in top physical condition. A race usually lasts 3 or 4 hours and there are no timeouts.

The race schedule is very demanding and you have to drive the wheels (not literally) off the car if you wanna win. You never know when your last win or last top 5 or top 10 could essentially be your last.

I hope that explains it for you and I hope I've helped.

ah, see i did not know about the temp inside the car...actually, i had never really thought about it...i dont know, it still doesnt seem like a sport to me, but again i will say that i know it takes unbelievable skill to drive and make and repair (etc) the cars and i know the fans are loyal...it just doesn't seem like a sport because the drivers aren't physically exerting themselves...rather, they are sitting in an extremely hot car

once again, feel free to correct me (nicely, please) if Im wrong...and thank you for not running me over, flames

Yes nascar is a sport it's just as much of a sport as anything else! You can get hurt! Yo take risks! You have to think of everything and eventhings you don't think of! You have to stay in-shape and fit! Ok what storp do you like then I can compare to something you like or get! And sorry I'm not trying to bite your head off or anything, but I love my racing!

You also have to take into account that since a majority of these tracks have banked turns, the drivers have to deal with an immense g-force load on the bodies. And when you have 43 cars on the track at the same time moving at the same speed, you have to be very well aware of who and what is in front of you, to the sides of you and behind you.

i personally play soccer...well, all of those qualifications could go for space traveling, but thats not considered a sport...and once again, thank you for being polite and civil. ok, i have one more question, which do you like better, the frog or the got milk?

🐸 :gotmilk:

oh, one more question...how fast do they go?...i have a general idea, but i dont want to say it, then have it be totally wrong so you'd end up laughing or hanging your head in shame at my ignorance

Their top speed maxes out at 205mph, but since they have restrictor plates, which as the name says, those plates restrict them from going any faster. They use them for safety reasons. If they didn't have restrictor plates, they could prolly top out at 220-230mph since they are so aerodynamically shaped.

Ok Bevinski I play soccer too so I can't say it's not a sport but I just looked up sport in my handy dandy doctionary and I found-in the playing of games or participationin a competitive pastime involving a physical exernation and skill- so there you have it no it words that I can understan A sport is something that ir competitive and Nascar is very competitive you is very physical and you also need skill! I don't know if you watch the news at night or when ever they have sports on, but that will be where you find your Nascar news and such!

hmmmmm...i'm still not convinced, b/c in my not-so-handy dictionary (this thing is two rather large volumes!) the definition of sport is " a game or other form of pastime INVOLVING SOME AMOUNT OF BODILY EXERCISE and carried on either in the open air, such as football, baseball, tennis, hunting, or fishing, or indoors, such as basketball or bowling" my biggest problem with nascar is the lack of bodily exercise...correct me if I'm wrong (wow, do i really need to say that?) but the only "exercise" is sitting in a hot car

and no one answered the more important question: do you like the got milk or the frog better?

🐸 :gotmilk:

These cars weigh 3400 pounds and driving a car that is not always set up perfectly, with the air buffing and moving your car and cars at your side isn't that easy. Your hands get a workout shifting the gears and white-knuckling the steering wheel, your arms get a brutal workout trying to keep the car straight. Your body is protected by a fire suit and safety equipment. Your legs and feet get a workout braking, shifting using the clutch and accelerating. Does that explain more to you?

And I like the frog better.
