OK I've been on the school team for three years and this year I didn't even try out. Why? Because it was fixed! I had a guarenteed spot on the team if I just showed my face, even though I had the skill and deserved to be on the team, there were girls who were making the team that shouldn't have and others getting cut that should have been on the team. I didn't think it was fair, so I wasn't on the team. Does anyone else have to deal with the stupid politics of sports teams?

yeah, thats always a problem...thats why i liked it that my high school soccer coach changed the policy. now, anybody who tries out makes the team.
but its really bad for odp, at least here in south carolina, because your skill doesn't matter as much as who you know

Well, if there aren't enough ppl to make up a full team, they should take everyone, but if only 13ppl are good enough (using cricke as an example), and 20 try out, then I'm sorry, but the other 7 can play for the second team, play social, or go away. It actually brings down the teams moral if you have players who really suck. It's not fun anymore.

I'm a one sport woman. Cricket is the only thing I play, but it bugs when ppl are only in the team because their is nobody worth putting on the team.

I hate sports politics, but I'm involved in them...I don't understand myself!

i don't really know what to say about this topic. i mean its not fair. you know how like the "popular girls" make the sports teams and they're just concerned about breaking a nail and the ones who can play the sport are cut i mean it isn't fair.

yes i do i hate how they base everything on one tryout when some people do well and other who are really good may just flop at tryouts

I havent had this problem with my sports because...the high school tema doesnt realy matter...its basically a non-serious training period for club volleyball and in club volleyball there isnt any biased because the people who choose the teams have never seen the girls before...they do that on purpose and i think its a really good thing...so i dont have the problem you have Nad...

It really bugged me how before the tryouts the team was already selected excepting about 5 open slots replacing those who had left the year before.

I know what you mean, but if they work it on a system like Mo's, then there isn't really a problem. So it's fine. But hey, that's just my opinion. Well...there must be a reason for the lashing ot, so what team did/n't you make Nad? ;)

in response to K. Ackles first comment (i dont know how to do the quote thing) we had 37 people on my high school soccer team...yes, a lot of them sucked, but they had nowhere else to play b/c most clubs dont have teams during high school season...but all those people actually improved the team morale...and everyone had fun that season

As long as they have fun, and are cool ppl, otherwise they just suck, and it does have the potential to bring down the teams moral, instead of bring it up.

And you just click the button which says 'quote' on top of what you want to quote, and then add your reply in the window which comes up

I don't want to sound mean, and this didn't happen recently to me, I made the team automatically last year and this year's team (formed in August) I didn't even have anything to do with. I was upset because I had heard some stories of it happening to other people, that and the coach is telling the girls on the team to get me to try out, which is another term for "you're on if you come", well, I won't be going, and I wish the girls would leave me alone about it, which they don't.

i see...thank you, K. Ackles
yes, i agree that it has the potential to bring down the team's morale, but i just wanted to point out that it can bring it up as well

YES, I've been on the basketball team for over 6 years. I started in 6th grade. I can't tell you how much it pissed me off. I'm a good player and everyone would always pass me the ball on my off school team. It would get annoying because i didn't want to be a ball hog, becasue i hate when people are ball hogs. So when we would run down the court people would try and pass it to me, i would tell them not to but they still would! AAHHHH!
Want to hear another messed up story? Well last year i played on my highschool team. There was an "A" team and a "B" team. I was on the "B" team. "A" team would always play first, we, being good friends and good spoirts would watch them play. When our turn came they sat in the gosh damn blechers with their backs turned to us. i'm like what the hell is this. "A" team was full of high egoed snobs, well atleast most of them, they would talk behind everyones back even our coaches! I love basketball but i would never play for my high school team ever again. It was nice becasue we won conference. The "B" team never lost a game. However the "A" team lost a few games, because they though they didn't need to try. One thing i've learned, you have to work for respect.

I know! everyone always gives me a hard time about not playing. I tell them about the other girls on the team but they always say "Well you have to play for yourself not for others." It's true, but no one gets it until they experience it for themselves. You know what i mean?

The same thing happened at my school! There was an A team and a B team. I was on B team. The A team ended the season with a 3-8 record. The B team ended in a 8-3 record. So team placement doesn't mean anything on skill. that's for sure.
