I am in the mood for some pumpkin pie!
Surprisingly in this area the local Costco makes a delicious pumpkin pie and it's really cheap! Unfortunately it's only available in the fall/winter months. :( I say 'surprisingly' because I'm in an area with huge Amish & Mennonite communities, so there is a lot of food influence & availability from that style of cooking, and even though they are known for their pie desserts the one from Costco still beats them.

I think that is common wherever you are. Down here, some of the best Cajun food is made at walmart...go figure? But you still can't beat traditional NOLA Cajun cooking, especially home cooked meals from someone that has lived here all their lives.
Apples are pretty much shipped here but Pecans, Mangos and Peaches are common.

Oh, crawfish, shrimp and crab are everywhere!

I'm being bombarded by news that 50 people died in a gay bar in Florida by a Muslim that was being watched as a terrorist by the FBI. I'm being told that it is domestic terrorism because he was a US citizen. I'm told it was a hate crime because it was a gay bar.

I'm sorry for the pain the surviving family has to deal with. I'm not minimizing the loss of life. I'm just wondering why there is so much fuss over this when it is to be expected. Nobody cares about the state of the nation or the world until something like this smacks them in the face. Then, nobody will care until it happens again, and again, and again.

Seeing what people have become in this day & age I fully expect this kind of thing to happen. I expect the numbers of deaths per incident to increase as well. I wonder at what point everyone might wake up? 200 deaths per incident per month? 500? What about 1000?

This trending is not a distant problem. Its in your face if you even care to look.
Oh look, a new cell phone...gimmie, gimmie, gimmie.
Oh look I can post a comment about this...Aint I great? ...me, me, me
I got a better deal on a marble than you.... mine, mine, mine
Then 'whoop' your neighbor blows up a packed grocery store or some kid down the street kills a bunch of his classmates. That guy that has been casing the place goes unnoticed, another guy walks into a bar carrying a semi-automatic, the woman behind you in line is sick and coughing her disease all over you.

BUT...I see you. I see all of you.

A facebook post I made concerning "What can you do to make Orlando or Sandy Hook never, ever ever happens again?" Democratic senator ends filibuster over guns - CNNPolitics.com

I said:
State Representatives are supposed to be the voice of the people in that state. Senators are there to enact the will of the people of that state. Congress is there to enable multiple states to come to an agreement. The President is there to be the face and voice of the Nations citizens. None of them, NONE are there to make decisions or speak "TO" our Nation. Our elected officials are not supposed to "Run' our Nation. "We The People" are supposed to run this Nation using elected officials to enact our will. Our problem is letting a select few make our decisions for us. The solution to all our problems is not following where we are led but leading where we go. We The People need to tell our government what to do not the other way around.

The President should ask each state representative what the most important issue is for that state. If Iowa representatives say 'Gun Control' then the people of Iowa should be most concerned with Gun Control. If they are not, They need to fire their representatives and find some that actually listen to their people. (Iowa was just an example - nothing implied towards Iowa - its a small word easy to type) This goes for every state and commonwealth in the nation. It doesn't matter if the representative agrees with the people or not. If our elected officials are NOT actng on our wishes they are not doing their jobs and need to be replaced with someone that will do their jobs. When was the last time an elected official actually asked YOU what YOUR concerns were?

The "Sheeple" mentality of our Nation has created our issues. The United States of America is not a Kingdom. We are supposed to be a Nation of people that lead ourselves. All corporate entities should only have the power of ONE. The same power as a homeless 'citizen'. The President should only have the power of ONE. The Same power as a McDonalds worker or an assembly line worker. When we 'give' more power to our elected officials we open ourselves to having less power over ourselves. If we allow one person to make our decisions for us we have nobody to blame but ourselves. The solution to this problem may be more gun control but it should be a solution that We The People decide and not decided for us. Gun control may not be the solution to the actual problem. Personally I don't believe guns are the problem at all. I see the problem as We The People not being in control of our own Nation.

"We deeply apologize for any misunderstanding, as it was absolutely not our intent to offend anyone," the Red Cross wrote on its website.
Red Cross apologizes for 'super racist' safety poster - CNN.com

I read the comments and replied:
What everyone seems to be missing is the fact that CNN is running this as a story. This is NOT NEWS it is an effort to get everyone excited over nothing. Is it fuel to the racism fire? When I see this and read the comments on it I wonder about everything CNN and other media outlets are subjecting us to. The article is not so much the issue as the subject matter and the timing. Until I saw this article I was not thinking about racism, I do not frequently check the Red Cross website. I would never had known this poster even existed. If I had seen it, It would not have caused me to think racism. This is an example of media trying to have power over the masses. Something they do behind the headlines that many never catch. The more we allow them to influence our thinking and feelings the worse our country gets. Get the people thinking about racism and they won't notice that we are telling them what to think. Wake up Sheeple!

My house sits on a little less than 3/4 of an acre; big enough that I need to spend time on it but not big enough for a lot of gas powered tools. To that end I had been using a Worx 20V cordless weed trimmer but switched a Ryobi 40V cordless model instead.

So... it turns out that the 40V Ryobi can kick back some stones with incredible force for a cordless tool. I think the bruise on my ankle will go away sometime next week.

If I ever win the lottery one of my splurges will be a Jeep Wrangler JK with a set of Mattracks. Mrs. Kevin doesn't understand the desire to play in the snow in a jeep on tracks but she has given the OK for me to buy them if we were to actually win the lottery. :D

Lately while watching Netflix on my Panasonic plasma TV at the house I've noticed that the picture contrast is so darn dark that some scenes are barely watchable. I was blaming this on the age of the TV as it is an older model now; heck, Panasonic doesn't even make plasma TV sets anymore. So while trying to distract my brain from a work related problem I tracked down the remote control (TV settings are only reachable by remote) to check out the settings. Much to my chagrin the color settings were set to "THX" which is only good if you're watching THX rated DVD's & Blu-Ray (or THX encoded programming). Changing it to "Vivid" was almost a night & day difference and even the "Normal" default settings were an improvement.

I don't know when or how the setting the got changed but it's like watching a new TV again. D'oh!

it's like watching a new TV again.
I noticed years back that even my old LCD monitor (22" HP) had settings to optimize for documents, videos or pictures. (can't recall the actual choices names). My Sanyo 50" TV that I now use for my monitor also has tweaks for resolution as well as environmental acoustics. Another thing it features is the ability to change aspect ratios and picture size. My desktop looks and works great on Pix2 while some PC games I still play have to be set to Pix6 to get the whole screen. That was a helpful post Kevin. Others may benefit from your sharing.

Just remember, if you're wearing noise-cancelling headphones while listening to music in the office, just because you can't hear yourself burp doesn't mean that everybody else in the office also doesn't hear it.
