Chapter eighteen

They marched up the steps and turned a corner in to the room Sydney slept in, the light switch flicked on and the person’s face illuminated, Sydney gasped.
“What are you doing here?” Sydney said.
“My name was cleared, well at least for now. Weiss did something. I don’t know what. They wouldn’t let me ask questions. They just pushed me out of the building.” He smiled at her seeing her shocked face. “What, aren’t you glad to see me?”
“Yeah… it’s just, well, that doesn’t matter. Your back.” She walked over to Vaughn and he pulled her into a hug.
“It’s just what?” Vaughn asked.
“Well, I know the CIA. They never let people out of custody this late.”
“Yes, well, I had to stop to get something.” Vaughn smiled and pulled out of the hug. Sydney raised and eye brow as she watched him walk out of the room, then back in again with a bag in his hand.
“A present? For me?” she said with a smile reaching for the bag.
“No…” Vaughn said as he stuck his hand inside the bag and pulled out a big square box. “For him…or her.” He said pointing to Sydney stomach.
“Well, him-or-her doesn’t have any hands.”
“Yes, that’s why you can open it for him-or-her.” Sydney let out a small giggle of excitement and reached for the present.
“I love opening presents!” she said as she slowly and carefully pealed off the slits of tape.
“You open like a queen.”
“I’ve always wanted to be queen.” She said as she placed the tape to the side and sat on her bed soon joined my Vaughn. She now slowly began to unfold the creases. When all the rapping paper had been removed two small boxes fell out. One of them was labeled “mommy” and the other “baby”.
“Open that one first.” Vaughn subjected to Sydney as he pointed to the one that said “mommy” and just like he new she would. Sydney raised her eyes brow again and picked up the box labeled “baby”. She opened the box and gasped. Inside there was a small golden bracelet. Too small to fit four fingers inside.
“It’s beautiful!” she said turning t Vaughn. She gave him a huge hug. And only let two small tears to fall from her eyes.
“It’s for him-or-her, remember?” he said with a smile.
“Well then…” she said lifting up her shirt to reveal a small lump that wasn’t there before. “Thank you daddy.” She said in a baby voice as Vaughn rubbed the lump.
“Your welcome.” He said. Then he turned to Sydney. “Since you got to open that one, I get to open this one.”
“But it’s addressed to me.” Sydney protested.
“It’s only fair.”
“All right.” Vaughn took the box and held it in his hand.
“Before I show it to you, I just want to tell you that the pregnancy didn’t influence my decision to get you this...” Vaughn flicked open the box. “Sydney Bristow, will you be my wife?” Sydney sat there for a moment and just looked from the ring to Vaughn’s eyes. Her hand on her chest. Then she reached out her and took the ring.
“Yes, yes, of course I will!” she exclaimed and jumped up into Vaughn’s arms. Then Vaughn put her down again he looked at her. They both had tears in their eyes.
“Let me put it on for you.” He said and took the ring out of Sydney’s hand. It was plain and elegant. The thin gold band suited her perfectly and at the top, three small yet stunning demons were placed in a row. He too her ring finger and slid it on. When the ring reached her knuckle it stopped.
“It’s stuck.” Vaughn mumbled. Sydney started to laugh.
“Here let me try.” Sydney also tried to push the ring over her knuckle but it wouldn’t move. The laughed again. Vaughn turned away, feeling too embarrassed to look at her. “Michael, look at me.” Vaughn turned around. “I don’t care. For now, it will go perfectly with the chain my grandmother gave me.” She walked over to her nick-knack box and pulled out a thin gold chain. She slid one end through the middle of the ring then tied it around her neck. “See. Until we get it enlarged, I’ll just were it in a less traditional way. She kissed him.
“You make every thing so perfect. Every thing has a good side around you. That’s one of the reasons I love you so much.” Vaughn explained then kissed her again. This time, He deepened the kiss. When Sydney pulled away Vaughn looked at her.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Are you sure. I mean, if this is because of the baby then…” but Vaughn cut her off.
“No, I told you, the baby didn’t influence my decisions at all. Actually, I got this before you got shot. Before I know you were pregnant. I was just waiting for the right time to give it to you that all.”
“I love you.” She whispered. “I’m sorry, I didn’t think that you would, I just wanted to be sure.”
“I know.”
