Chapter 1
"Sydney?!" She stopped and whirled around at hearing the all too familiar voice. She gave him a proud, cold glare. He just stood there, aw-struck. Looking at her surprised.
She raised an eyebrow at him. "Yes?" Then she added sternly. "Agent Hicks?"
Noah regained his posture and set his jaw as his face went blank. "So, you made it?"
"Sydney gave him a little proud smirk. "I am an agent you know."
Noah looked a little depressed. "When-did you get back?"
Sydney kept her cold glare on him. "Last night." She could tell that her return was very unexpected. She wondered-had she impressed him? She must have! After all the protesting and doubt he had.
Noah cleared his throat and slightly lowered his head as he looked to the ground. "Oh. I- didn't think you'd make it."
"You made that pretty clear." Sydney pointed out, the memory replaying in her mind. Noah looked at her, with a very faint look that deeply asked forgiveness. No way. Not after the way he made her feel. Not after the was he backstabbed her. Not after the-kiss. "You should know-" She continued with confidence. "that I didn't do anything with out thinking first." She turned, and smiled to herself after seeing that statement put a self-ashamed look on Noah's face. Maybe it wasn't self-ashame. But whatever it was, it sure showed on his face. And it made her proud.
She walked into Wilson's office. he looked up at hearing her entry. At seeing her his eyes glinted and he smiled. "Sydney!" he stood and helf out his hand, which she shook. "Congradulations! I just finished your mission report." They both took a seat. "I must say, you handled it very well. All that happened was very unexpected. Especialy Prince Fredericks participation." Sydney nodded. That was very unexpected. "But you got all the information we need and got out alive." He looked hard at her. "You should be proud."
Sydney slightly smiled. If only Noah had been as proud of her as Wilson. But that would never happen. "I am, thank you." It wasn't exactly as hard and dangerous as he had portrayed it to be.
"I hope your classwork won't be too hard to make up." Wilson told her. "From what I read in your report, it was a frightful experience. Won't be easy getting those images out of your head. Never is."
No, it wasn't easy at all. All the blood and death had played in her head so many times since she left. She wondered if she'd ever be able to get over it. She will, or else everyone here would be wither on the edge of committing suicide, or be in a depression state.
Sydney softly smiled. "The work won't be too hard."
Wilson nodded. "Well, that'll be all." Sydney stood and head for the door. "I'll see you soon." Wilson said to her.
As Sydney stepped out into the hallway, an unfamiliar voice called to her. "Bristow!" She turned to find Marcus Dixon approaching her.
She broke out a smile. "Hey!"
He smiled back. "So, I hear you just got back from your first solo and undercover mission!"
She lightly blushed. She proudly nodded. "Yeah, I did."
Dixon looked at her admirably. "You know, you're the first rookie agent to do so well."
Sydney crossed her arms. "Well, my partner doesn't seem to think that I do that great."
Dixon looked like he understood. "Well, Hicks, he's kind of an all about work sort of guy."
She nodded. "I noticed."
"He's a tough guy to get close to." Dixon said. "But once you're in, he's not so bad." Sydney doubtfuly smiled. Like he'd ever let her get close. "He's a tough partner for a rookie." Dixon went on. "But you, I think you gave him a few surprises. Especialy with your last mission."
Sydney looked relieved and happy. She tried to hide her excitement, and she didn't do so well. "Really? You really think I impressed him?"
Dixon smiled at her and nodded. "Yeah. You sure did."
Now she was more proud than ever. She, Sydney Bristow, a rookie agent, impressed Noah Hicks. A surge of excitement swept through her body.
"Well, thank you Dixon." She beamed at him. "I'm glad that I'm making an impression."

"Hey Syd!" Francie greeted joyfully as she hugged Sydney. "How did it go? Is your aunt going to be okay?"
Sydney hesitated before realization smacked her. "Yeah, she's going to be alright." She said, hoping Francie wouldn't notice her pause.
"Well, that's good. I got all your work for you." She pointed to a stack of paper.
Sydney winced. "Thanks." She was a little bummed out.
"Oh, and that guy Burke called." Francie said. Sydney's head snapped up from her school papers.
"He did?"
Francie nodded. "Uh huh." She looked at Sydney disgusted. "Please don't tell me it's gonna turn into a thing."
Sydney smiled. "No Francie, it won't." Even if she wanted to forget Noah, even though he was somewhat of a jerk, she couldn't let go of him. If she couldn't do that, she couldn't be with Burke. Not that she was considering it or anything. "So, what did he say?"
Francie looked at Sydney with slight annoyance. "He said to meet him at the park bench at three. And that he has plenty of ice cream."
Sydney would have smiled, but the look on Francie's face stopped her. "What?" She asked confused and worried.
"Syd, there's obviously something you're not telling me here!" Francie insisted. "Plenty of ice cream?"
Sydney sighed. She didn't want to have to tell Francie her story about getting drunk. But now she had no choice. So she spilled. But she left out the part where she knocked out the drunk guy with some Kung Fu moves. "So, that's what he meant by plenty of ice cream." Sydney explained.
"Okay, I have a better understanding now." Francie admitted. "But I've gotta tell you, it sounds like it's turning into a thing."
Sydney sighed. "It's not Francie. Trust me."
Francie stayed quiet a moment. "Promise?"
Sydney smiled. "I promise."
Francie sighed. "I'm sorry I'm making a big deal out of this, but it's Burke. Yeah he's a hot, but he's, well, nerdy."
Sydney nodded understandably. "I know." She grabbed her keys. "Well, I guess I'll see you later."
Francie looked at Sydney surprised. "Where are you going? You just got here!"
"It's almost three." Sydney replied. "I have to go meet Burke."
Francie sighed exasperated. "SYD!" She yelled.
Sydney smiled. "I'll see you later!" She called out as she closed the door.

"Hey!" Burke's face lit up when he saw Sydney.
Sydney smiled back as she sat down on the bench next to him. "Hi. What's up?"
Burke looked at her confused. "You tell me. You're the one who called me at four o'clock in the morning asking for ice cream."
Sydney chuckled. "Sorry about that. I was visiting my aunt and I forgot about the time difference."
Burke smiled shyly at her. "You're silly. You know that?"
"I do now." She replied, looking into his eyes.
Then it fell quiet, and niether of them spoke. They were still looking into each other's eyes when Burke slightly moved toward her. Sydney didn't move as he leaned in and softly kissed her. She didn't kiss him back. He pulled away to look at her.
"Burke-" Sydney said quietly. "What are you doing?"
The excitement she saw in him died. "I-I'm sorry! I thought-" He started to stutter. "I thought we had something."
Sydney's cheeks burned. She felt bad, rejecting him. She imagined he must feel how she did when she embarassed herself infront of Dean.
She softly shook her head. "I'm sorry. But the most it was was friendship."
Burke's face fell even more. "Oh."
Just then, Sydney pager went off. She grabbed it to stop it's beeping. She looked at the screen-Wilson. Excitement pulsed through her at the thought of what he could want.
"I'm sorry." She said to Burke. "I have to go." And she got up and left him on the bench.
Tell me if you like it! Tell me if you want more!!!
