Chapter 1

"Sydney?!" She stopped and whirled around at hearing the all too familiar voice. She gave him a proud, cold glare. He just stood there, aw-struck. Looking at her surprised.
She raised an eyebrow at him. "Yes?" Then she added sternly. "Agent Hicks?"
Noah regained his posture and set his jaw as his face went blank. "So, you made it?"
"Sydney gave him a little proud smirk. "I am an agent you know."
Noah looked a little depressed. "When-did you get back?"
Sydney kept her cold glare on him. "Last night." She could tell that her return was very unexpected. She wondered-had she impressed him? She must have! After all the protesting and doubt he had.
Noah cleared his throat and slightly lowered his head as he looked to the ground. "Oh. I- didn't think you'd make it."
"You made that pretty clear." Sydney pointed out, the memory replaying in her mind. Noah looked at her, with a very faint look that deeply asked forgiveness. No way. Not after the way he made her feel. Not after the was he backstabbed her. Not after the-kiss. "You should know-" She continued with confidence. "that I didn't do anything with out thinking first." She turned, and smiled to herself after seeing that statement put a self-ashamed look on Noah's face. Maybe it wasn't self-ashame. But whatever it was, it sure showed on his face. And it made her proud.
She walked into Wilson's office. he looked up at hearing her entry. At seeing her his eyes glinted and he smiled. "Sydney!" he stood and helf out his hand, which she shook. "Congradulations! I just finished your mission report." They both took a seat. "I must say, you handled it very well. All that happened was very unexpected. Especialy Prince Fredericks participation." Sydney nodded. That was very unexpected. "But you got all the information we need and got out alive." He looked hard at her. "You should be proud."
Sydney slightly smiled. If only Noah had been as proud of her as Wilson. But that would never happen. "I am, thank you." It wasn't exactly as hard and dangerous as he had portrayed it to be.
"I hope your classwork won't be too hard to make up." Wilson told her. "From what I read in your report, it was a frightful experience. Won't be easy getting those images out of your head. Never is."
No, it wasn't easy at all. All the blood and death had played in her head so many times since she left. She wondered if she'd ever be able to get over it. She will, or else everyone here would be wither on the edge of committing suicide, or be in a depression state.
Sydney softly smiled. "The work won't be too hard."
Wilson nodded. "Well, that'll be all." Sydney stood and head for the door. "I'll see you soon." Wilson said to her.
As Sydney stepped out into the hallway, an unfamiliar voice called to her. "Bristow!" She turned to find Marcus Dixon approaching her.
She broke out a smile. "Hey!"
He smiled back. "So, I hear you just got back from your first solo and undercover mission!"
She lightly blushed. She proudly nodded. "Yeah, I did."
Dixon looked at her admirably. "You know, you're the first rookie agent to do so well."
Sydney crossed her arms. "Well, my partner doesn't seem to think that I do that great."
Dixon looked like he understood. "Well, Hicks, he's kind of an all about work sort of guy."
She nodded. "I noticed."
"He's a tough guy to get close to." Dixon said. "But once you're in, he's not so bad." Sydney doubtfuly smiled. Like he'd ever let her get close. "He's a tough partner for a rookie." Dixon went on. "But you, I think you gave him a few surprises. Especialy with your last mission."
Sydney looked relieved and happy. She tried to hide her excitement, and she didn't do so well. "Really? You really think I impressed him?"
Dixon smiled at her and nodded. "Yeah. You sure did."
Now she was more proud than ever. She, Sydney Bristow, a rookie agent, impressed Noah Hicks. A surge of excitement swept through her body.
"Well, thank you Dixon." She beamed at him. "I'm glad that I'm making an impression."

* * *

"Hey Syd!" Francie greeted joyfully as she hugged Sydney. "How did it go? Is your aunt going to be okay?"
Sydney hesitated before realization smacked her. "Yeah, she's going to be alright." She said, hoping Francie wouldn't notice her pause.
"Well, that's good. I got all your work for you." She pointed to a stack of paper.
Sydney winced. "Thanks." She was a little bummed out.
"Oh, and that guy Burke called." Francie said. Sydney's head snapped up from her school papers.
"He did?"
Francie nodded. "Uh huh." She looked at Sydney disgusted. "Please don't tell me it's gonna turn into a thing."
Sydney smiled. "No Francie, it won't." Even if she wanted to forget Noah, even though he was somewhat of a jerk, she couldn't let go of him. If she couldn't do that, she couldn't be with Burke. Not that she was considering it or anything. "So, what did he say?"
Francie looked at Sydney with slight annoyance. "He said to meet him at the park bench at three. And that he has plenty of ice cream."
Sydney would have smiled, but the look on Francie's face stopped her. "What?" She asked confused and worried.
"Syd, there's obviously something you're not telling me here!" Francie insisted. "Plenty of ice cream?"
Sydney sighed. She didn't want to have to tell Francie her story about getting drunk. But now she had no choice. So she spilled. But she left out the part where she knocked out the drunk guy with some Kung Fu moves. "So, that's what he meant by plenty of ice cream." Sydney explained.
"Okay, I have a better understanding now." Francie admitted. "But I've gotta tell you, it sounds like it's turning into a thing."
Sydney sighed. "It's not Francie. Trust me."
Francie stayed quiet a moment. "Promise?"
Sydney smiled. "I promise."
Francie sighed. "I'm sorry I'm making a big deal out of this, but it's Burke. Yeah he's a hot, but he's, well, nerdy."
Sydney nodded understandably. "I know." She grabbed her keys. "Well, I guess I'll see you later."
Francie looked at Sydney surprised. "Where are you going? You just got here!"
"It's almost three." Sydney replied. "I have to go meet Burke."
Francie sighed exasperated. "SYD!" She yelled.
Sydney smiled. "I'll see you later!" She called out as she closed the door.

* * *

"Hey!" Burke's face lit up when he saw Sydney.
Sydney smiled back as she sat down on the bench next to him. "Hi. What's up?"
Burke looked at her confused. "You tell me. You're the one who called me at four o'clock in the morning asking for ice cream."
Sydney chuckled. "Sorry about that. I was visiting my aunt and I forgot about the time difference."
Burke smiled shyly at her. "You're silly. You know that?"
"I do now." She replied, looking into his eyes.
Then it fell quiet, and niether of them spoke. They were still looking into each other's eyes when Burke slightly moved toward her. Sydney didn't move as he leaned in and softly kissed her. She didn't kiss him back. He pulled away to look at her.
"Burke-" Sydney said quietly. "What are you doing?"
The excitement she saw in him died. "I-I'm sorry! I thought-" He started to stutter. "I thought we had something."
Sydney's cheeks burned. She felt bad, rejecting him. She imagined he must feel how she did when she embarassed herself infront of Dean.
She softly shook her head. "I'm sorry. But the most it was was friendship."
Burke's face fell even more. "Oh."
Just then, Sydney pager went off. She grabbed it to stop it's beeping. She looked at the screen-Wilson. Excitement pulsed through her at the thought of what he could want.
"I'm sorry." She said to Burke. "I have to go." And she got up and left him on the bench.

Okay, here's chapter 2!

Chapter 2

As soon as Sydney walked into the briefing room, her eyes were pulled over to Noah's sitting image. The thought of going on another mission with him thrilled her. She sat down right as Wilson came in.
"Afternoon agents." He greeted as he sat in the chair at the head of the table. He looked directly at Sydney. "Good work on your last mission Agent Bristow. You impressed many of us."
"Thank you." She felt Noah's eyes on her. She didn't look at him.
"Something very critical has come up." Wilson began. "We feel that you two would be good for the job." Sydney flashed Noah a very quick glance, which she hoped he didn't see. Wilson clicked a button on his remote control. A picture of a slightly overweight man with a thick mustache appeared on all the screens. "Gustaf Lindenbaum. He's a very rich arms dealer in Switzerland. He own's some of the most dangerous weapons known to man, including biological weapons." Sydney and Noah both studied their screens.
"Gustaf has a computer disk, with the names of his common dealers." Wilson stated, looking back and forth between the two agents. "This disk is a vital piece of information. We need to know who he's selling his weapons to, and who's he's buying from. We need this disk." Sydney and Noah both looked at him.
"Another thing-" He clicked another button on his remote control. A picture of a dark skinned women, with long black hair showed up on the screens. "This is Ana Espinosa. She's one of K-Directorate's top agents." Sydney studied the picture very carefully, memorizing the face. "There's very little doubt K-Directorate will send her there." Wilson told them. "As I said before, we need this disk. Do not let Espinosa get a hold of it." Both Sydney and Noah nodded.
"Now you two will be going undercover as terrorist partners, interested in buying some of his weapons." He handed them both a black folder. "You aliases and plane tickets are in there. As well as your mission plan and the name and address of where you'll be staying. You leave in one day." He stood up from his chair. "Good luck agents."

* * *

Noah grabbed Sydney's arm, stopping her swift stride. He kept a firm grip on her arm as he pulled her into a corner. He looked at her sternly. "Now listen, in order to make this mission a success, we need to straighten some things out."
"Really?" Sydney asked, prying his hand from her arm, despite how much she liked it. Her arm burned and tingled where his hand had been. "Like what?"
Noah looked at her as if she were a stupid and annoying six year old child. His cold, dark eyes pierced her, and a shudder ran through her body. "I think you know what Sydney."
"It's Agent Bristow." Sydney demanded. Noah looked a little taken aback, before realization swept over him.
"Is that why you've been so cold toward me? Because I want you to be formal?" He asked, the disbelief aparent in his tone.
Sydney squinted her eyes at him. "You think something like that would get to me, Hicks?" That wasn't even half of it.
"The way you're talking it certainly does." He told her.
She succeded in making him realize that. But she wasn't going to admitt it. She wasn't going to seem childish. She straightened her back and rose her chin. "Well, it doesn't bother me."
Noah gritted his teeth. "Well then you better tell me what is bothering you so that you can think clearly on this mission."
Sydney raised an eyebrow as she gave him a surprised and curious look. "Do you think I'm capable of thinking clearly? Or do you think I'll rush into something with out thinking?" Noah looked a little puzzled, but there was another look she couldn't read.
Noah sighed. "Look, you did a couple times in Paris. And that kind of move is critical in the type of mission you were on. It could have jepordized the mission."
"But I didn't." Sydney pointed out.
"That doesn't mean you still won't." Noah countered. Sydney glared at him. She thought he was trying to clear this up. She's still pretty new at this, he knows that. So why is he ragging on her? Because SD-6 was sending her in on vital missions when she's still a rookie, that's why.
Noah's voice broke into her mind. "And now we've got Espinosa to deal with. And she is a very skilled, experienced freelance agent." Sydney didn't say anything. "Meaning, it's even more dangerous."
Sydney was quiet a minute, just watching him. "Do you really think that SD-6 would be sending me on such critical missions if they didn't think I was able to handle it?" When Noah froze, she knew she got him. "If there's some other reason you're opposed to me working on my own, you better spit it out." She leaned closer to him and she whispered to him. "Because I'm going to be on my own some day Agent Hicks." That thought sent shivers down her back. She didn't know where she was getting the gut to be this cocky, but she liked it.
Noah didn't say anything. "I'll see you in Switzerland." Sydney said, and walked away.

* * *

She had never spoken to anyone like that before. She never had the nerve. Maybe her pride and confidence from her last mission gave it to her. But it felt like she'd never get it back. Well, she had stood up for herself and her future. She stood up to Noah. There was certain pride to that, and some sorrow which Sydney couldn't explain.
She had stood up to him before, argued with him. But not the way she just did. Maybe it was her anger and feel of betrail that made her unleash her coldness which she never knew she had. Well, she hoped that she had made the wheels turn in Noah's brain.
She was alone on the track today. No Tod, no athletes training for track. No one. And she liked that. She took a deep breath of the fresh, crisp air and then started her jog.
Now there was the challenge of K-Directorate's Ana Espinosa. A skilled, experienced freelancer. Could Sydney stand up to that? A rookie against a feild agent? It certainly didn't sound likely. But she had to try, SD-6 and the whole United States were counting on her. And besides, if she really wasn't ready, if she was incapable of handling Espinosa, SD-6 wouldn't be sending her in. Right? Right.
She'd have to start studying the Switz language. It wasn't just common sense, her mission statement told her so. But it also said that it was highly unlikely she'd have to use it, since Gustaf knows english. he needs to in his line of work. But what if Francie caught her studying another language again? How could she explain it? Oh well, she'll think of something when the time comes.

* * *

"Now what are you studying?" Francie asked, eyeing Sydney's book.
Sydney blushed as her mind raced wildly, looking for an explanation. "It's-my make up work." She stuttered out.
"In Switz? What class makes you do that?" Francie asked doubtful and surprised.
"Language." Sydney answered plainly.
Francie rolled her eyes. "Frist Russian, then Romanian, and now Switz. Geez, what are they trying to do? Turn you into a CIA agent?"
Sydney froze. "No-"
"What do you need all those languages for anyway?" Francie insisted.
"It's optional Fran." Sydney told her. "And besides, it'll help me out with my job." At least that much was true.
"Yeah, well they're pushing you too hard." Francie stated. "I swear, I'm gonna write to the school district about it." Sydney chuckled. "I'm serious!"
"I don't doubt it." Sydney asured her.
It was quiet, and Sydney noticed that Francie looked like something was bugging her. Concerned, she set down her book. "What's on your mind Fran?"
"Well, I don't mean to intrude or anything." Francie started, her brown eyes shinning with curiousity. "But what happend with you and Burke yesterday?"
The event flooded back to memory. His lips on hers, his hurt and shocked expression when she told him how she felt. The guilt squeazed her stomach. She knew what it was like to be in his position.
Sydney sighed. "He kissed me."
Francie's mouth dropped and her eyes bulged. "No! Syd you promised! What did you do?" She eagerly waited.
"I turned him down." Sydney said.
"Oh my gosh!" Francie squeaked. "I can't believe you shared your first kiss with Burke!"
"It wasn't really a kiss. I didn't kiss him back." Sydney informed Francie.
"A kiss is a kiss." Francie replied, looking a little disgusted. "But I'm glad you turned him down."
Sydney slightly smiled. Francie had no idea what the guilt did. She would live but, now if she ever looked at Burke, there'd be that scar.
"Let's go do something." Francie suggested.
Sydney looked at the clock. "I can't. I have a flight to Europe tomorrow."
Francie rolled her eyes. "Looks like your language class picked the perfect time to have you learn Switz."

Chapter 3

Sydney sighed as she looked at the ocean through her window. She wondered what new threats this mission was going to bring. If it was going to be anything like her mission in Paris, it'll be exciting.
That reminded her of Noah. He was right, even if she didn't like it. If they were going to work together, they had to be co-operative with each other. And that meant, she had to forget what he said. But it wasn't that easy. Maybe he would appologize, like he did in Paris. She highly doubted it.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please buckle your seatbelts." The pilot said over the PA. Sydney pulled her seatbelt around her waist. She was in Switzerland.

* * *

Sydney stood as she watched and waited. She had been waiting at the conveyor belt for her suitcase for a while now. Finallly, she saw it. She quickly raced over to it and grabbed it. Once it was tightly in her hand, she spun around, and nearly collided with someone.
Sydney stumbled back a couple steps. "Oh, excuse me. I'm sorry-" Her voice cut off and she choked on her words when the face of the person she almost ran into, became very recognized.
The women flipped her long dark hair over her shoulder and rolled her eyes. She gave Sydney an annoyed glare as she stepped around her and grabbed her own suitcase. Then she disapeared into the crowd.
Sydney couldn't help but stand frozen and gawk. Her body shivered from fright and excitement. This was not good.

* * *

Her hotel room was almost as nice as the suite she and Noah were in at Paris. But this time they had seperate rooms. They were undercover as partners, not a married couple. According to her inventory, Noah's room was right next door. She wondered if he was there yet.
Just then a loud knock rattled her door. She quietly made her way over to the peek hole. Noah. She unlocked her door and opened it. Sydney just stood there looking at him. He looked a little uncomfortable. "Can I uh, come in?" He asked.
"Oh, of course." Sydney said, mentally kicking herself. She stepped out of the way to let him in. His shoulder softly grazed hers as he stepped in. Chills ran down her arms. She let out a silent breath she must have been holding in as she closed the door.
Noah's eyes scanned her room. "Nice room."
Sydney slightly smiled. "It's not a room, it's a suite."
The fire in his eyes danced as he chuckled, that line bringing back the memory. He turned to face her, and her stomach did flip flops when his eyes looked her up and down. Maybe it was just her imagination.
Sydney put some hair behind her ear. "So what's up?" She hoped that didn't sound to childish.
Noah sighed. "We still have to clear up-whatever it is between us before we start this mission."
Dread made Sydney's slightly friendly face fall. "Oh, that."
He looked hard at her as he walked toward her. "Yeah that. You want to tell me what's going on?"
Sydney stared at the soft carpet. "Why don't you tell me?" She looked up at his confused face. "You're the one who said I did a great job in Paris, and then tried to prevent me from going on a solo mission."
The light in Noah's eyes brightened. "So, that's what this is about."
"You could say that." Sydney said as she crossed her arms.
Noah nodded. "It's true, you did a great job in Paris. Better than I had expected." Sydney's face lit up and her heart accelerated. "But it's also true that you sometimes do rash things." She broke their eye contact. "Its not that I'm opposed to you going on solo missions. I just-" He shrugged his shoulders. "I didn't think you were ready for one as dangerous as the last, that's all."
So that was it. And this whole time she had been making a big deal out of it. Her mind laughed at her stupidity. She felt embarassed. "Oh." That's all she could say.
Noah took in a slow breath. "So, things are settled then." Sydney, ashamed of herself, nodded. "Good." He stepped past her and walked to the door.
Sydney spun around. "Wait!" Noah stopped, he turned and looked at her with an experesion of curiosity. Sydney hesiated. "I......" Her mind went blank. Would he be mad at her? "I ran into Ana Espinosa as the airport."
Noah's face changed from curious and gently to angry. "What?"
Sydney choked on her breath. "I was getting my suitcase and I just, bumped into her."
His eyes pierced her with rage as he walked over to her. "Do you realize what you've done? Your cover could be blown!" She just helplessly stood there as he yelled. "Great job Bristow! Already you could have made a vital mistake!"
Sydney couldn't take it anymore. She couldn't just stand there while he blamed her. It wasn't her fault. "Well it's not like I could have helped it!" She yelled back at him. "It's not my fault! I just turned around and there she was!" She glared at him with hate, trying to hold in tears. But she couldn't hold them, and they shimmered in her eyes. "Nothing I do will ever be good enough for you. Will it?" She asked quietly.
Before Noah could say or do anything, she stepped past him and ran out the door. "Sydney!" He called after her. She slammed the door, making people in the hall look at her. But she didn't care. She was at the stairs when she heard him come out into the hallway. "Sydney!" He called once more. But she ignored him and ran down the stairs.

Okay I have more but I have to leave, so I'll put it up tomorrow!

Okay my rides not here yet, so here's the last part of chapter 2.

* * *

Keep running. Don't stop. Her body shook and her tears slid down her cheeks as she ran as fast as she could onto the streets. She couldn't let him find her. Keep running.
She found a dark, quiet allyway a few blocks away from the hotel. She hid behind a dumpster and sat on the ground. She hugged herself as she cried.
It wasn't her fault. It was just coincidence. Couldn't he see that? Obviously not. But what could be keeping him from seeing it?
She knew that her cover could be blown. But if she could've helpd it, she would have.
She hated how Noah acted like he never made any mistakes in his life. That when he was a rookie, he kept out of acidents and was perfect. He was probably just frusterated, being experienced as he was working with a rookie. But he didn't have to treat her like this when it was an accident.
Right when things were smoothed out with them too. Why-why did Ana have to be at the airport? Why did Noah have to be her partner? Why couldn't it be-Dixon, or someone more friendly and understanding? Because life's not fair. That's why.

* * *

Sydney held her breath as she slowly pushed the door open. She peeked in and to her surprise, Noah was still there. And he sure looked troubled. He sat on the foot of the bed, his elbows on his knees and his hands in his hair, gripping tight.
The door creaked and his head snapped up. He looked worried, tortured. She had never seen him like that. He bolted onto his feet and walked towards her. "Sydney-"
"What are you doing in here?" She said, closing the door hard.
Noah straightened up and cleared his throat. "I couldn't find you. I decided to come back here and wait."
"Well I'm here now, so you can leave." She said with a snotty voice. But Noah wasn't done yet.
"Sydney, we need to fix this." He said with a commanding voice.
"I told you it's Agent Bristow." She said sternly. "And fixing things between us is impossible." She moved forward to walk past him.
Noah grabbed her arm and pulled her back in front of him. He didn't let go of her and she didn't struggle. "Now you listen to me." He said in a quiet, firm voice. "We've had far too much of this and it needs to stop. You make a mistake, you take, learn by it, and move on." He stared straight into her eyes. "Understand?"
"OKay." Sydney said weakly.
Noah let go of her arm, and she rubbed it. He had a tight grip. His features softened. "Having said that," His voice was normal and somewhat gentle now. "I'm sorry that I yelled at you." Surprised, Sydney looked up at him. "You're a rookie I understand that." Then his voice turned very soft, and his eyes had a look that truly begged for her forgiveness. It was a lot stronger than before. "And I know it's not at all your fault that you ran into Espinosa. It just could make things a lot more complicated and dangerous now."
Sydney softened her experession. He just made a complete turn. She didn't know what to say. What do you say to that? Noah studied her, trying to read what she was speaking. "Thank you." It's not exactly the right thing to say, but that's what came out.
"You should start getting ready." Noah said before he walked over to the door. "We only have a couple hours before we have to be at Gustaf's party."

Okay, I'll have chapter 4 up for you tomorrow!!!
