chapter 10

Noah. Tears stung her eyes. All the memories of the times they've had flashed before her eyes. She hoped that he wasn't dead.
She would have to search the entire base for him. They had no tracking devices, no comm. links, nothing. So she had to look, which could take hours and was exteremly risky. She couldn't get caught. And she had to be rough, for Noah.
Sydney his in the bushes as she screwed the silencer onto her pistol. She was hoping that she wouldn't have to use this. Sydney looked through the leaves of the bush when she heard talking.
Two men with asualt riffles stood on the gravel outside the base's back door. One of them spoke a few words as he walked away. Sydney waited untill his crunching footsteps faded.
The security guard in front of her lit a ciggeret and put it to his lips. he pulled it down and let out a puff of smoke.
Sydney nervously raised her gun. This was the part she hated. She bit her tongue as she pulled the trigger.
The guard dropped his ciggeret and screamed. His knees buckled and he fell to the ground, grunting and moaning. He was gripping his destroyed knee cap.
Sydney leaped to her feet and jumped over to the guard. She grabbed his shirt and pulled him toward her, pointing her gun at him. She didn't want to do this. She was already sorry that she shot his knee.
She swallowed the hard knot in her throat, just to put it in her stomach. "My partner was taken into custody, where is he?" She tried to sound intimidating, but she was scared. And it came out sounding that way.
The man, petrified, swallowed and licked his lips. "In the basement..."
Sydney took a deep breath. She couldn't bring herself to hit him in the head. But she had to. She raised her gun and cracked the handle against the man's scull. She winced when she did it. And he was out cold.
She glanced around as she dragged the body behind the bushes. Then she looked around once more, before dashing to the door.
When Sydney came to the stairs that she was at earlier, she almost collapsed. Noah's blood painted the first few steps. She gagged at the thought that he might be dead. Incase he was still alive, she had to keep going. She sucked up her sobs and took a step around the corner, escaping the spilt blood.
The elevator was at the end of the hall. Sydney quickly made her way to it. Ignoring all the spots of blood that had dripped from Noah and Ana.
Once Sydney got to the elevator she quickly pressed the basement button and took a deep breath. She had seen too much blood; most of it Noah's. And she knew that if she looked at the wall behind her, there'd be blood. So she kept her eyes closed as she waited for the elevator to stop.
She let out the breath she had been holding when it stopped and the doors opened.
The basement was littered with stacked boxes and fences. And a voice rang, leaping from wall to wall. Ana.
Sydney hid behind a pile of boxes and looked toward the center of the room. She choked when she saw Noah; bruised, bloody and battered, sitting strapped to a chair. Ana and one other man stood in front of him
"There's a team looking for your little girlfriend." Ana said, a cold smile on her face. "And if she doesn't have it, and you don't tell me where it is, I'll kill her."
Noah didn't move, he didn't speak. Ana's face turned from pleased to just plain frusterated. She slapped him hard, and the crack of it echoed.
"Tell me where it is!" Ana demanded, the anger hardening her voice. Noah still didn't say anything.
Suddenly Sydney was grabbed from bahind, the arm choking her. "Drop the gun!" A deep voice demanded. Sydney let her gun clank onto the floor.
"Gminski," Ana said. "What's going on?"
The man, Gminski rather, pulled Sydney out into the center of the room. "I found his little girlfriend."

Chapter 11

Noah looked at though he were going to kill Sydney for not listening to him. For not leaving and giving the disk to SD-6.
Ana smiled wickedly. "Search her." She proudly crossed her arms.
Sydney held up her arms to allow Gminski to search her. She could feel Noah's cold eye baring down on her. She waited as Ana's henchman padded her down.
He turned to Ana, disapointed and empty handed. "She doesn't have it."
Ana's smile vanished and she glared. "What do you mean she doesn't have it?" She walked over to Sydney.
"I mean she doesn't have it!" Gminski yelled at Ana.
Ana squinted her eyes at Sydney. She jammed the barrel of her gun at Sydney's throat. Sydney let out a little grunt. "All right you little american girl, where is the disk?"
Sydney's eyes watered from the gun jamming her throat. She struggled to keep the water from spilling. She didn't want to look like she was crying.
Ana pushed the barrel in harder. She shook Sydney. "Answer me!"
An idea that sent petrified chills running down her spine, formed in Sydney's head. She could be shot, killed. She could fail her rescue mission. But it was a chance.
Angery, Ana let go of Sydney and turned around. Sydney's hand struck out and grabbed Ana's wrist, pulling it around back and up. While the other arm went across her neck. Ana screamed as Sydney pulled her arm up further, almost breaking it. Sydney grabbed Ana's gun and pointed it to her neck, hard. Noah was practically gaping at Sydney in utter surprise. Sydney was surprised herself.
Gminski just stood there, not knowing what to do.
"Untie him." Sydney said, indicating Noah. Gminski didn't move. Sydney dug the gun deeper.
"Do it!" Ana yelled in pain.
Gminski rushed over to Noah and hurriedly unbuckled him from the chair. As soon as Noah was on his feet, he grabbed the henchman and through him into the chair. Sydney waited as Noah tied up Gminski.
"What about her?" Sydney asked. Noah looked at Ana and the look on his face made her cower. Sydney could feel her shudder.
Noah smiled. "I know just the thing."

* * *

"There's something I don't understand." Noah said as they walked away from the warehouse. "If you don't have the disk, then were is it?"
Sydney had a small smile on her face as she walked over to a bush. Noah watched her confused as she russled around the bush. She stood up and turned around. "Right here." She said holding the disk.
Noah looked at her amazed. "You left a disk with names of terrorists and their contact information and their locations, in a bush? Do you realize how stupid and risky that is?"
Sydney shyly lowered her head. "Well, it worked."
"What if it didn't?" Noah yelled at her, his anger flaring in his eyes.
"What was I supose to do?" Sydney yelled back at him. She felt the on coming of tears. "Just go back in there with in?"
Noah walked up close to her. "You were supose to go back to LA!" He said with an angery tone. He sighed with annoyance as he turned away from her.
Sydney remembered when he did this in Paris. She saved his life but he didn't care. He just yelled at her for her stupidity. And then she remembered what she had said.
The corners of her lips slightly twitched up. "You're right." Noah whirled around and looked at her with confusion and surprise. "I should've just left you there." She decided to add one more thing. "I'm sure that's what you would've done." She couldn't even begin to describe the look on Noah's face.
She turned away from him, but he grabbed her wrist. "Sydney," She slowly turned to look at him. He licked his lips. "I'm sorry." He studied her, waiting. His eyes sparkling and his hand still around her wrist. Sydney didn't know what to say. He never said sorry before. Well, not really. So she just softly nodded. "I would've gone back in for you." Noah added.
Sydney's head snapped up and her eyes were wide open. "You, you would?"
He gave her a lopesided grin. "Yeah." Their eyes met and she slowly smiled back at him. He let go of her wrist. "We should head back to LA. We've been here long enough." He said, sounding professional again.
Sydney sadly nodded. "Yeah." And then she noticed how tired she was. She missed Francie and her warm smiled. She missed running on the track with Todd. She just wanted to go home.

Chapter 12

Sydney stole a quick glance at Noah as she wrapped his shoulder with a bandage. She tried not to pay to much attention to the fact that he wasn't wearing shirt. To distract herself, she stared at the bullet wound.
Noah had been watching her the entire time. Keeping his dark eyes on her face, never once moving. His stare made her a little uncomfortable. Why was he staring? And what emotion came with that stare? She wished she knew.
Sydney finished his shoulder. "How's that?" She asked, meeting his eyes.
Noah continued to stare for a while longer. Then he looked over her bandaging job. "Not bad. Impressive actually."
Sydney slightly blushed. She looked away from him and fumbled with the first aid kit. "What about your ankle?" She stole another glance.
Noah took a sharp breath and winced as he put his lef straight out. "Yep, it needs bandaging too. But I can do it."
He reached for the kit, leaning over Sydney. She held her breath, he was so close. She could almost feel his warmth. Her heartbeat drummedin her ears, and sweat waterfalled over her forehead. He was so close.
And then it all died inside her when he leaned back, bandage in hand. He gave her an odd look. "Something wrong?"
Sydney then realized that she was staring, and had been frozen solid for a while. She ralaxed her muscles. Nervous, she began searching for words in panicl. "Um, yeah I-I'm fine. Just fine." Her cheeks burned, and she knew they were flaming red.
Noah gave her a small, playfull smile. He looked at his ankle as he wrapped it. "I have to admitt Sydney, you impressed me on this mission."
Her heart jumped and she tried not to smile. "Really? I did?" A happiness raced through her body. Ever since she joined Sd-6, she had a desire to please. Especially Noah. And she has.
He had that playfull smile as he glanced at her. "Yeah, you did. I'm sure Wilson will be too."
Sydney looked at him with one raise eyebrow. "Oh really? You're not going to backstab me?"
Noah froze momentarily before dropping his hands. He sighed. "I thought we already cleared that up." He looked at her sideways.
"We did." Sydney replied. "But that doesn't mean it won't happen again."
He chuckled. "No, no it doesn't." Then he looked back at her, his eyes hiding an emotion that she wished to hell she could read. He reached his hand out to touch her face. That tingeling sensation sread through her body as her heart accelerated. He tenderly traced her scabbed gash. "How are you feeling?" He asked in an almost whisper.
Sydney gazed at him in a trance. "Better." She whispered back. It didn't go un noticed by Sydney how often Noah had touched her face. Every time he did, she became more assured taht he had strong affection for her. She hoped anyway.
Noah looked over at the clock. "We should go. Or we'll miss our flight." He removed his hand as he slipt his shirt on.
They had returned to the hotel and taken care of any bugs. They had packed their things, and she had bandaged up Noah best she could.
Sydney stood up. "Yeah, we should." She grabbed her suitcase. She was excited, she was actually going to fly back to LA, sitting next to Noah. She smiled to herself.
"What's that smile for?" Noah asked, snapping Sydney back to reality.
Sydney gave him her full attention. Slight panic made her heart rate quicken. "Nothing."
Noah eyed her doubtfully, picking up his suitcase. "Right. Okay, lets go."
Sydney stood there and frowned. "Will you be able to walk okay with your ankle injured?"
"Don't worry about it. I've had much worse." Noah said, opening the door. "Come on, let's go."
Whiping the thoughts of his worse injuries from her head, Sydney stepped into the hallway.

* * *

Sydney wrote away on her school paper as Noah looked hard and thoughtful at his laptop. Sydney glanced at him and the screen, tying to see what he was up to. She was afraid to ask. He'd been like that for a while now, and it was getting to her. He would type for a while, then stop and stare at the screen with a look of hard concentration, and then type some more. And do it all over again. Curiousity distracted Sydney too much to work on her school paper. She had to ask.
"What are you doing?" She asked and she waited in suspense, fear raging inside her.
Noah kept his eyes on the screen. "Writing the mission report." He answered.
Sydney's fear died. "Oh. Do you always do it on the way back?"
"I try to." He looked over at her. "What are you doing?" He raised his eyebrows.
Sydney took the chance to gaze at him momentarily. She sighed. "A school paper."
Noah looked down at her paper. "Really?" He reached for it, then stopped and looked at her. "Do you mind?"
Sydney nervously shook her head. "No, not at all."
Noah took the sheet of paper and started to read. Sydney tried to steady her breathing. Her heart boomed, eachoing in her ears. She nervously fiddled with her pen. She waited in terrible suspense.
What if he didn't like it? What if he thought it was poorly written? She didn't think she could take that.
"This is good." Noah said, his eyes still on the paper.
She looked at him surprised. "Really?"
He handed it back to her. "Yeah. I'm sure you'll get an A on it. It's really well written."
Sydney tried not to smile. "Thanks." She looked over at him as he closed his laptop. "Done?"
Noah rubbed his eyes. "For now. I've been staring at words and letters for too long." He rested his head back against his seat.
"How's your shoulder?" Sydney asked, not wanting silence to fall between them just yet.
Noah looked over at his shoulder and lightly touched it. "Okay I guess. I 'll have to get the bullet taken out when we get back." He turned his head in her direction. "How about you?" He pointed to her gash.
Sydney reached up to her scab covered temple. "I'm fine. Still hurts a little. But I'll be fine."
Noah chuckled and Sydney looked at him confused. "How in the world are you going to explain that you to your friends?"
Sydney just stared at him. "Oh my gosh...I have no idea!"
Noah folded his hands. "Well, lets be a little creative." Sydney smiled faintly. "How about, one of your clients accidentally hit you in the head with their briefcase?"
Sydney raised her eyebrows. "They'd have to swing it rather high in order to do that."
Noah shrugged. "Hey, it could happen."
"But is it believable?" Sydney asked him.
He shrugged again. "Sure. I'd believe it."
Sydney smiled at him. "Okay. Only if you really think it'll work."
"It will. Trust me, I know."

Well, what do you thinK? I hope you like it!!! I'll have more up soon!!

This is the last chapter, unfortunetly. But it can't last forever, sorry. So, the ending's not real great, but I hope you enjoy it. I'm glad that you liked this story, and I am truly greatfull for you all reading this.

Chapter 13

"He hit you with his briefcase?" Francie eyes were wide with disbelief, and her mouth hung open.
Sydney rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I can't believe it."
Francie shook her head. "I can't either. I mean I really can't Sydney. What's your client doing swinging his briefcase that high?"
Sydney shrugged. "Don't ask me."
Francie shook her head again. "Sheesh, people these days." She sat down next to Sydney.
Sydney had a huge smile that she couldn't hold in. Francie actually believed the cover up story. Noah was right, it worked!
"So," Sydney said. "Anything new since I left?"
Francie let out a long sigh and rolled her eyes as she rested her head on her hand. "Nothing. It's been really boring. Nothing has been going on, I mean nothing."
Sydney laughed softly. "Well, we'll go do something."
Francie sat bolt upright and gawked. "Seriously? Wow, I can't believe you just said that." Sydney sadly smiled.
A sudden longing to see Noah swept over her. She glanced at her pager; but it stood still. She should be getting called in soon. She couldn't wait.
"Oh, by the way." Francie's voice dragged Sydney from her thoughts. Francie turned and pointed to the counter. "I got all your school work."
Sydney smacked her head. "Oh! I have to turn in all my other work!" She clamped her teeth as she looked at the pile of papers on the counter.
"Don't have a cow Syd. You'll be fine." Francie assured her.
Sydney sighed. "I know, it's just-" Her pager rattled and tickled her skin. She grabbed it, excitement pulsing through her. Hoping, she glanced at the screen. A wide smile stretched across her face. "I'm sorry Francie. I have to go."
