Fantasy Superman: Man of Steel

You just prefer the reboot because it is a British kid now in the lead.

No, I hated Toby Maguire from the very first Spiderman he did. He just didn't cut it in the part for me. Whiny spotty youth grew up into whiny spotty adult. Nothing about him worked for me.

Spiderman deserved a reboot.... Toby Maguire? Really? Be honest.. was he really how you envisioned Peter Parker?

But why exactly is it a "reboot", the term is nonsensical. Are Boredwood saying they got it completely wrong in the first place and besides making a zillion dollars are going to rewrite the franchise history ... just like they actually did in the third movie without needing to "reboot" it.

In terms of Superman, it's the Twilight for Superhero fans imho.

Both are reboots in that, yes, they are trying to forget about out the existence of the prior movies and are starting over. Both the last Spiderman and Man of Steel change the origins story of the main characters. While Spiderman is veering closer to the source comics the revamped Superman background details are new to the franchise.

At least with Spiderman it could be argued that the actor was starting to get a little old to play the character (plus Emo Spiderman went down in flames with the fans) but, with Superman, the last movie with Brandon Routh earned a ton of money and sort of fit into the prior movies with Christopher Reeve. Why the need to recast & reboot that franchise so fast instead of retooling can be likely blamed on the selection of Christopher Nolan and his success with the... wait for it... "rebooted" Batman franchise.

As a kid, I grew up with all the awesome stuff, including action figures and comic books (still have many CBs in my collection), so movie reboots don't really bother me.....as long as a quality production comes from the thought process of the team behind a particular reboot. I've never been a purist in the sense that a super-hero movie has to stick closely to the origin story or every other tenet of the particular character as portrayed famously on the printed pages by comic book artists and writers. My belief is that super-hero movies can stand apart from one another as well, so I just try to enjoy each one as a new vision from a new team of writers, directors and actors when that situation happens. Looking forward to watching the new Man of Steel, whenever my busy schedule allows me to fit it in on a particular weekend.

I'll be watching it on Netflix or cable when it becomes available, that is for sure, but it isn't appealing enough to me to draw me back into going to a movie theater.

I saw man of steel in the theatre in 3D and thought it was pretty decent. My biggest problem with it was the casting for Lois Lane sucked. Why the heck would Superman "settle" or be so entranced with an older sloppy looking earth woman? The actress isn't a dog but far from anything special...the producers and directors should have spent some extra time on casting Lois and found someone worthy of Superman's obsession.....and not a redhead either, lol.

Zod's female companion was rather hot! All films should have a bad girl that's more attractive than the leads partner, just to remind us that beauty is only skin deep

Oh my gosh....that is so spot on! She was gorgeous, I couldn't help but think through the whole movie that I'd probably join the dark side just for her, lol.

He was... he really was that bad :D

I didn't find him to be too bad to be honest. That said though, him and Kirsten Dunst as the two lead characers? I knew going in that I wasn't getting an action movie, I was getting a chick-flick.

Back to Superman, I still haven't seen it. That said, everything I've seen of it looks very Nolan-Batman. Which I'm not sure will work for the character.

I have to disagree totally about the casting of Lois Lane as Amy Adams would get me to watch almost any movie.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. Has anyone been to watch it yet? I need reviews!
