SYDNEY'S DEATH

In which case, I'll be waiting. I read this when everything was up before but it was so good that I'm back to reading it again... (y) (y) (y)

VII. Who Leaves
Silence created the feeling of an empty hole in the funeral room; a hole where Sydney was missing. Kendall rose from his seat. “Jack, Irina’s trial will start in five minutes. If you are going to testify as a witness, we need to go. Her trial will be short.”
Jack stood up from the bench in a daze. He walked slowly towards the doors, his eyes still on Sydney. He reached the glass, darkly tinted door. He opened it. He passed through and turned around. He let go of the door, he let it close. He watched Sydney as the door slowly closed, he clung to that last glance of her through the crack as the door hid her from him. She was gone behind it.
Back inside the room, Weiss turned to Vaughn. “I know I can’t even imagine what you are feeling right now, but if you want to bring the woman who did this to justice, we need to go to that trial now.”
Vaughn answered in a lifeless voice. “Irina Derevko will be convicted and killed without my testimony. Jack is there. It is more important for me to be here.”
Weiss rose from his seat and left Sydney and Vaughn alone. No, he left just Vaughn alone.

IX. Irina’s Trial
Senator Douglas looked up from the scattered papers on his desk and turned his accusing gaze towards Irina. “You have been charged with the murder of twelve CIA agents in addition to you own daughter, Agent Sydney Bristow. What do you have to say for yourself?”
Irina met the senator’s look calmly and firmly. “I did not kill my daughter,” she told him slowly, accentuating each word.

X. Sunset and Surprise
The sun had disappeared and a beautiful flaming sunset lit up the western sky. Red streaking fingertips reached upwards, straining over the horizon, and mellowed into oranges, then soft pinks and finally melancholy purples and they left the world of brightness and color to join the deep blue heavens. People all over the Earth turned to watch this magnificent sunset, but Sydney and Vaughn did not. Sydney, because she too had joined the peaceful but dark and somber blue of the heavens, and Vaughn, because his eyes never once strayed from the woman he loved.
The funeral home was empty except for him. Vaughn knelt next to Sydney’s coffin. He took her hand in his, and then suddenly dropped it. Her hand fell limply to her side. A look of surprise spread across Vaughn’s tear-stained features, his first living expression since the previous night.

XI. Condemnation
Senator Douglas announced the decision without any hint of pity or regret. “We convict you, Irina Derevko, enemy of the United States of America, and pronounce you guilty of all charges. At the urging and advice of the Central Intelligence Agency, you will be executed by lethal injection this same day, at 7 o’ clock and 45 minutes.”
Irina did not lower her face, but simply raised her hands to smooth a strand of hair. Her face showed hints of fear and shock, but anger dominated her features and covered her other feelings. She gazed upwards at the clock, which read 7:28. She sat upright; even 17 minutes before her death, Irina Derevko kept her dignity.

Please post more soon! What did Vaughn feel that surprised him? A pulse? Don't let Irina die, at least not for something she didn't do!

XII. Pulse
Back in the funeral home, Vaughn quickly recovered from his surprise. He picked up Sydney’s wrist, feeling it with both hands and searching for the pulse he imagined that he had felt. He thought he felt one; he pressed his fingertips to Sydney’s cold neck, trying to find a pulse there. He wasn’t sure if he was imagining it because he wanted to feel it so badly, or if the slight movement he felt in his fingertips was real. He leaned over her, pressing his hands to both sides of her neck, his face knitted in concentration inches above hers. He was sure of it now. There was a pulse.
Vaughn spoke, driving out the empty stifling silence of the room. “Oh my God Sydney,” he gasped. “Oh my God, you’re alive!”
He was still feeling her pulse; he was afraid that it would disappear the instant he stopped. Exuberant hope replaced the deathly grief across Vaughn’s face. He looked up at the clock, which read 7:37.
Vaughn shook Sydney’s shoulder. “Sydney, can you hear me? Syd, we’ve got to go, your mother’s execution is in eight minutes!”

XIII. Chains
Solemn guards led Irina into a dark stifling room and chained her to a black chair while Jack, Kendall, and Weiss looked on.

Ahhh hurry and save her!! This is such a good story I'll keep checking back for more updates!!

I posted before, but since the site crashed, my post was kicked off the face of the earth, so i'll post again (not that you mind, I'm sure ;) ). This story is amazing! I love it! I can't wait to read more, so please post!

XIV. Gently
Vaughn spoke gently now, with a purpose that gave back to him the spirit and life that usually characterized him. “Okay, Syd, I’m sorry about this. I need to get you to the medics, but we need to stop the execution first.”
He raised Sydney to a sitting position and then picked her up and carried her out in his arms. She hung limply, her loose hair dangling.
