    Hi all,

This is my first post here. Hope this is appropriate.

I have recently bought 'The Hydrogen Sonata' by Iain M Banks and read the first couple of chapters before realising that it is one of a series on novels. I have never read any of his stuff before so am not familiar with the 'culture' novels but I have discovered that this is the last one that he wrote before dying. I am wondering if anyone can tell me, do I need to read these novels sequentially? Should I put this one on hold until I have worked through the whole series? Or can they be appreciated individually.

    Thanks in advance.
