Talk about the giver here. All of the characters plots etc.

I cried so much bridget!!!! Elsewhere is heaven and Jonas finally reached it when he selded down the hill!!!!

Chanel!!! This is so great of you...we can finally talk about the Giver!

But the story had such a deep message and concept, that I was kind of wowed for the longest time. The idea that these people could live in a colorless...memoryless society is amazing.

I read the story so long ago, but I can always find different parts of the story to remember.

It's just the way the society was run that amazed me....one of those times it actually makes sense to say
"ignorance IS bliss"

I would hate living in their community but it sort of makes sense why the Elders or whomever decided to do this...but how did they get rid of weather and color and stuff? Anyways, i decided to bring this thread up, as in english class we're discussing the book and doing essays/projects with it :D

I read this book in school, for school readin, in grade 7. We all had to read it. Although I still do remeber it, I remember it being very weird.

It's not weird...I don't think any literature is weird...The Giver is just an amazing story of a society living a life we couldn't ever comprehend.

And the way I look at it, the community never got rid of the weather or memories, it's just something they never had. Or perhaps they did have them, but no one ever taught them to know what "memories" are and what different weather is.

I really didnt like The Giver...I though it was sort of...I guess you could say weird....and yeah Betha I have read "Gathering Blue". I like that much more compared to "The Giver" hands down :D

did anyone read the sequel? its called gathering blue and its really good! theres a third one too but i dont know if its out yet! :D
I've heard about that one, but strangely enough I haven't read it. There is a 3rd one that ties into both stories. I think it's called Little Boy or something like that. The English teacher I aide for mentioned it...and I'm most definitely going to look for it.

Ohhh definately gotta read those. *adds to "Book I NEED to read" list* Thank you for sharing, I had NO idea there were sequels!!!

I read it in 6th grade... I remeber liking it, but I forgot a lot of what happened. I also saw a play of it a few years ago. The play was kind of strange, but the book was good.
