The invention of the Bow and Arrow: insights in Sci-Fi?

Hi everybody
I used to be a real sci-fi enthusiast when I was younger... now, while writing a scientific article on the invention of the bow-and-arrow I remembered a sci-fi story I read as a youngster... but I can't remember the author nor the title. The story was about a Neanderthal (the last one?) who is confronted by a Sapiens armed with a bow-and-arrow. The neanderthal laughs at the tiny arrows and fragile weapon but he shouldn't. Too bad... Unbeliavebly, the story could have been actually a good insight into what happened according to novel research, so I'd like to begin my article quoting it. Anybody there can me help in finding out author and title? I thought it was from Asimov, but I'm possibly mistaken. Any other sci-fi stories about the invemtion of the bow-and-arrow? Thanks in advance to all the friends who can help me here...
Sci-fi is actually much more then fiction, sometimes leads to extraordinary insight and surprising anticipations...
All the best

I remember a story about the last Neaderthal, a Cro-Magnon (or whomever) man let him hang around as a sort of curiousity. I think the story ended when the Neander saved the life of a CM child but died as a result.
sorry, no idea about title/author.
