The Poisonwood Bible

i have just started this book because my teacher in literary circle just loved it and i read the bean trees by her last year and loved it(i recommend that book, very good!) i just wanted to know if anyone else has read books by her or this book? i love the beginning how she describes them walking in a line, i can already sense foreshadowing and symbolism which i love!lol :P

okay, i found the PW thread and now all of you who i encouraged to read this book have a place to discuss! so im going to start the discussion of it, because this is my favorite book, i loved it and i loved it enough to read it twice in two weeks!LOL!
i loved almost everything about the book except Rachel towards the end, she got too snobby and conceited but at the beginning i thought she was a riot!(charmed im sure?!lmao!)
i loved reading adah and leah's accounts the best, i now catch myself reading words differently, seperating them into different words and not even realizing it and love palindromes now!(Evol's Dog, Ho!) and how Kingsolver wrote her permnant singsong of walking left......behind.....left .....behind and how that carried throughout the story!
and i loved the overall themes as well, what is right somewhere is wrong somewhere else.

Kingsolver's description of everything was amazing as well, "parting the curtians of spiderwebs as conducting a symphony" "pale doomed blossoms" everything was so well written, and the plotlines were just heart-wrenching.
i loved how she chose to have Orleanna talk from the standpoint of not being in Africa looking back on it and talking to Ruth May, and especially when the last section of the book was Ruth May.
another part of this book that i admired was the relationship between anatole and leah."not you beene" and my favorite parts of the book are with anatole(when he is invited for dinner in the beginning when father price has that outburst, when he is telling leah about the Congo when no one had come to disturb her, and my other favorite which does not have him in it, was Ruth May's "funeral" when it started to rain and all the children came out saying "madah my i"
i really liked the characterization of the characters, especially Ruth May, whom she wrote like a child. i felt like i actually was ruth may.
and now i will stop here because we all know that i can go forever on this book, so i speak that later!
discuss!

My favorite character was Leah... and not just because of her name. LoL She changed the most, I think. I would go more into detail but I don't want to accidently ruin anything for anyone! I really liked the different styles Kingsolver wrote to signify the different characters.

yeah i haven't finished it either... i just got to book three this morning b/c i kinda read 2 books in between also reading it so it was weird... but it's SUPER good! my favorite character is adah actually. she seems so much more of an independant person and she's pretty cool. leah just seems "oh my gosh i'm the best ever" rachel and ruth may and funny and orleanna just seems very reflective and gives lots of foreshadowing. like when she says "i only ever saw the gathering clouds." i like that. she says a lot of cool reflective things. reverand price makes me SOO mad though! he's so single-minded.

yeah adah's the best! she's just cool and i think she's smarter than leah. leah just thinks too much of herself. but i feel sorry for the way her father treats her. i really hate him! yeah ruth may's breaking her arm, rachel's hissie fits... it just never ends! where are you in the book?

hehe reeeallly behind... um... ::hops to other table:: eeeee  only page 59!!! I'm reading 3 boooks! It's hard! LMAO!

lol i read up to like page 70 then i got the shopaholic books and i couldn't resist reading them so i read them 2 days... 2 books... and then there was this day when i had a lot to do and i didn't get a chance to read so i resumed yesterday and now i'm on book three! the judges! so don't worry much about being behind.

hehe I'll try to read more tonight... I just like books that go fast, and the PW Bible isn't one of those books you can finish fast!

Hmm.... i'm not slow, i just don't have time... I read the Fearless books in 3 hours! heh... but i only have time to read them at 12 midnight... so i usually stay up till 3....

hmm.... well that's your opinion! I think if a book is that great, i'd finish it and want to keep reading... but it's not that face paced... and a little slow... just my opinion!

hehe feeearless!!! my loove for fearless!

understandable, people have different opinions and different tastes, its all up to you, if you dont like it then thats your opinoin!
i love all the description when ppl find things slow paced i am always intrigued somehow!LMAO!
