The Poisonwood Bible

yeah she did. you should really read it! it's a great book!

my favorite quote from the book:

"And the rain poured down and I wondered, Are we lost right now without knowing it? It had already happened so many times in my life...that I'd merely paused on the edge of another narrow precipice in the midst of a long, long fall."

oo this is one of my optional reading books... should i read it?

and didnt barbara kingsolver write the bean trees?
you should read it, i have read it twice and i loved it. and yes she also wrote the bean trees and pigs in heaven(which is the sequel of bean trees)

At first, I was slowly getting into the story, but last night as I read, I was completely drawn into Congo.... Rachel just bothers me right now and Leah is my favorite so far, but that Ruth May....lol....she seems so sweet. And Adah? I'm going to need a bit more before I decide!

i know, isnt rachel just annoying!and im sorry to tell you, but she gets worse and i just wanted to go in the book and strangle her!!!
and ruth may is so cute!
see i loved adah becuase of how differently she saw things even though she was very anti everything and dark, i learned so much from her character as to see things in a different light.

I absolutely adore this book! Leah was my favorite character. Her love and compassion was unbelievable.

Rachel really didn't bother me a whole lot, because I think her main point in the story was just to show the feelings of the majority of whites in Africa, as well as to show contrast between her and the other characters.

I really hated Nathan Price , but as the story went on, I began to understand his character.

yeah i'm a little past halfway and i just started book four and rachel is getting a little on my nerves... a little full of her beauty that no one seems to be noticing in the congo...leah is getting better. she's beginning to see the truth about her father and she seems sweet but in some weird twisted way she's kinda funny sometimes. ruth may is adorable!!! she's just the sweetest thing really. and adah is still my all-time favorite. i agree with you there about adah. she just thought so differently and is really an interesting character. i like how she keeps secrets and how she's so dark and against the world. the way she lives on with people always forgetting about her and not caring about her as much as the others and how she still continues to enjoy life in her own dark/anti everything ways is just amazing. orleanna seems pretty okay but mr. price just makes me sooo mad! he's so blind and isn't seeing what's going on. barbara kingsolver did an excellent job of developing her characters though. you never hear from the reverend but you still know how he is by the others' accounts. and each character is so unique and you feel like you know them. she just did an excellent job on character development.

Actually at first, I didn't like Leah at ALL and I thought she was annoying... but by the end of the book, I really liked her! I think more like Adah does too.

And the Bean Trees is an amazing book, as well. I can't wait to read Pigs in Heaven... I wish I had money... :(

I liked Leah right away....she just seemed like a whole hearted person. The one the story seemed to focus the most on....i know each girl has a part, but it appears to be leaning towards Leah.

yeah, i thought leah was kinda stuck up in her "oh i'm the smartest ever" way in the beginning but now in the beginning of book 5 i'm liking her a lot more. except

OH. MY. GOSH. I DID NOT THINK THAT WOULD EVER HAPPEN! anyways... if you've not finished it yet at the end of book four... BIG surprise...

I was sooo mad! Some girl in my class read ahead and spilled the beans! We were all gonna kill her!!!!

UGH! how could they?! i was bawling at that part and all the little children!(that was one of my favorite parts of the novel though! and then what orleanna did afterwards!)

but yes chelsea i have read the bean trees very good and leah im with you, i really want to read pigs in heaven as well!
see i liked leah right away and felt sorry for her blind devotion to her father.

don't tell me yet! But Leah does have that amazing relationship (often one sided) with her father....who in particular manages to amaze me every page with his religious ways.

yes at the beginning of the book i was very inspired by the religious sides of leah and her father! it really did inspire me and that is one of the reasons why i like it so much!

yeah i didn't want to say what happened because i didn't want to spoil it for people but still!!!!!! i can't believe it. and i've only got like 50 pages left!!!! yay!!!!! i'm going to finish today but gosh this book is REALLY great! rachel is so snobbish/stuck-up.... adah is still my favorite! she's just so cool! leah i have a lot more respect for and even though she's not my favorite she's still a very good character and now i see what you mean by having so much love and compassion leah since i've gotten farther along. orleanna just seems... i'm not sure. i'll still stick with the adjective reflective. and mr. price.... well, he just makes me REALLY mad!

right now, orleanna kind of amazes me. Even though it's the beginning and she always held back in the past, there was the recent time where she stood up to her husband, and that was pretty amazing!
