Chapter 4:

Written by : Claire!!!

"1,2,3,4,5...
What's happening?" Dr. Barnett asked.

"Oh my God..." was all that came out of Sydney's mouth...

“Sydney! What do you see?” she pleaded.

“My mother.” She stated simply. She gasped and closed her eyes forcefully. She was suddenly afraid for her life.

“What is she doing?” Barnett asked in a calm, soothing voice.

~~~~~ Flashback~~~~~~~~
Sydney lay on the floor in her bedroom. She was slipping in and out of consciousness. She was just so tired. After fighting Francie’s double, she barely made it out alive. All she wanted to do was rest for a minute. She put her head down and reached for her cell phone to call Vaughn.
She reached it and started to dial his number. She heard a noise coming from the front yard. She stopped and tried to look to see what or who it was. She couldn’t see anything. She continued to dial, now only 3 numbers left. She then heard a louder noise come from her kitchen. She couldn’t see who it was. It could have been anyone. She wished it were Vaughn. It wasn’t.
She finished dialing his number and was about to hit the ‘Send’ button when a person appeared in front of her. It was Irina Derevko. She gasped at the sight of her mother. She was scared. Her mother bent down in front of her and took her cell phone and put it in her pocket. Sydney would have fought her but she was way too weak to even try and Irina knew that.
“Sydney, you have to come with me.” She said, surprising Sydney.
Sydney rolled onto her side, trying to get up. She didn’t really know how to respond to that. She didn’t know what to do. Should she try to get up and take her mother down, or should she listen to what she had to say? She decided to try to get up and strike at her mother, but before she could even lift herself up, her mother pushed her back down.
“Sydney, you must come with me.” After Sydney didn’t respond, she went on. “This is for your own safety. Sydney, you must come and help us.”
“Us? Who else?” Sydney asked, now concerned.
“That does not matter. All you need to know is that we need you.” She stated, getting more anxious by the second.
“Why should I trust you? What’s so important? Why do you need me?” She asked with a hint of anger and frustration in her voice.
“We just do. Now Sydney, we can go the easy way or the hard way. It’s your choice.”
“I choose not to go.” She said just above a whisper. “What do you want with me?” She said slowly, hoping it would entice her mother to answer. She didn’t. “WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME!” She screamed.
Irina had had enough. She looked into Sydney’s eyes and said, “Alright, I will make the choice for you.”
~~~~End Flashback~~~~~~~~~

Sydney’s eyes jolted open. “That’s all I remember from then. She must have knocked me out.” She sighed loudly.

Dr. Barnett sighed as well. “Okay Sydney, what’s the next thing you remember? Go to that memory.”

“Okay. The next thing that comes to my mind is I’m in an old, abandoned building.” She said with ease.

“Where are you?” Dr. Barnett asked calmly, trying to get Sydney some answers.

“I don’t know. I’m not sure.”

“Can you see anything around you to tell you or give you hints at where you are?”

“No. Wait, I see a sign that says ‘SHMI T. BEST’. I don’t know what it means. Maybe it’s a company name or a town or maybe it’s just nothing.” She was racking her brain to think of an answer.

“That’s good Sydney. What happened next?” D. Barnett continued.

“I’m in the building and two guys push me into a cell. It’s dark and cold and small. I’m so scared.” She said with tears running down her cheeks.

“What are you thinking about in there?”

“Vaughn. All I can think about is him. I wonder where he is and if he’s okay. I’m wishing my mother didn’t go after him too. Please make sure he’s okay.” Sydney said, but then started to get scared in the present. The memories started to take over her. “Vaughn! Where’s Vaughn?” She asked, looking around the cell.

“I’m so cold. Get me out of here!” She screamed. “I’m so scared. Vaughn? Where are you? Help me!” She screamed and screamed and screamed. When no one responded, she whispered, “Vaughn. Help me.”

Dr. Barnett saw what was happening to Sydney. She was getting worried. “Okay Sydney, when I count to 5 you will be back in the present where nothing is wrong. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.”

Sydney sighed and sat up. She looked around and found herself in a white room, back where she started. She sighed and felt cold, like she was still there in that cell.

After she was finished her session, she walked out of the medical part of the Ops Center and back to the command center, where she usually was. She looked around and saw the usual: agents running around and working.

She then spotted the person she wanted to talk to: Vaughn. She ran up to him and immediately engulfed him in a hug. He was startled, but hugged her back. He was also confused at her change of heart. A while ago she refused to talk to him. Nevertheless, he was glad to have her back in his arms.

She hugged him tightly for a few more seconds then broke away. He pushed back as well and they stared into each other’s eyes. It was a little awkward for both of them. Vaughn didn’t know what to say.

Sydney spoke up. “I’m sorry.” She said backing away.

“No, it’s okay.” Vaughn replied in a whisper.

“Thank you.” She stated with a smile and left down the hall, leaving Vaughn standing in the middle of the Ops Center really confused.
