The X-Files

Funny. I started watching at season 1 thinking that the show wouldn't survive 1 season like most Friday night sci-fi shows (see Strange Luck, Firefly, etc., etc.). I liked it right off, but when they did the movie they started writing stories that separated Mulder and Scully a lot to accommodate the film shooting schedule, which I thought was bad for the series--and that trend didn't seem to improve much even after the movie was finished! Then, instead of throwing in the occasional funny, quirky story (which was good), they were trying to do it all the time, which I thought was bad for a series that was supposed to creep you out. So I started to watch less. I must have been one of the few who welcomed Robert Patrick's arrival (Try not to be too angry with me! It wasn't his fault Duchovny left!) because I watched more the last couple of seasons as they increased the number of creepy stories again. I know, I'm in the tiny (!) minority because most people loved Mulder so much! 'Course, I wasn't a big Duchovny fan or M/S shipper, so there wasn't a big disappointment factor for me when Duchovny decided to leave the series.

Me, I probably liked the first season the best, although there are classic episodes scattered throughout the years, even in the seasons I liked the least.
Well,I'll be in the minority with you.
I didn't really get into the show until the last episode of season 7(which I thought was cheesy and predictable) But I wanted to know what happened to Mulder. So I got hooked on reruns! Then watched season 8 when it began.
Yeah,it wasn't the same without DD,but Robert Patrick did a great job and I liked him.
Plus it gave us a chance to see Scully shine.GA was amazing! I just got season 8 dvd and I am still blown away with how amazing GA was.

Fans got really pissy and mean in season 8+9.
They hated DD for leaving, they hated RP and AG for being there.
Fans even hated Tea Leoni???

Season 8 had some really great episodes.
But I was a shipper and I did miss the M+S dynamic. But I just savored what whatever we got!

OMG!!! my bro's and sis used to watch this!! and i was like 6/7 and it scared me sooooooooooooooooooo much!!! i mean like poor little me!!!! i couldn't even watch independence day cus i was scared of even that!!! so i went ot watch the hunchback of notre dam LOL!!! and my bro's and sis made me watch this cus they out numbered me!!!

From Sun at the SD-1: ^_^

Guys, i would like to know what do you think about some questions i have:

If William is in fact Mulder´s son, like i believe he is, why does he have mind powers, like those ones shown in "Provenance" (season 9)? And why does agent Monica Reys, on Mulder´s trial, claims that William is some how an alien form of life?

From the X-Files Episodes transcripts, credits from insidethex.co.uk:

REYES: We came to learn that Scully was one of a number of random women who had miraculous childbirths and these women all had been abducted as part of a government program to secretly manipulate their biology operating offshore on a navy ship using these women as surrogates.

KALLENBRUNNER: Surrogates?

REYES: For alien babies.

KALLENBRUNNER: To create a slave race.

REYES: Yes.

KALLENBRUNNER: A program conducted by the Navy, on a ship which is where?

[Clip Sequence shown while REYES speaks:

* from NIHT2 (9X02): The Valor Victor explodes. SCULLY, REYES and DOGGETT narrowly escaping the bomb's detonation.]

REYES: The ship housing this program was exploded on the Baltimore dock.

KALLENBRUNNER: So, in other words, we have no true evidence past your good word.

(SKINNER looks down at the same tactic being used by KALLENBRUNNER over and over again for each witness he brings up. With no proof they have no case. REYES, on the other hand, grows more determined and more defiant to make the truth known.)

KALLENBRUNNER: You claim Scully gave birth to one of these alien babies. How can you be sure of this, Agent Reyes?

[Clip Sequence shown while REYES speaks:

* from Provenance (9X10): SCULLY opens the drawer and the metal piece of ship taken from AGENT COMER flies through the air, out of the room and directly toward WILLIAM who is lying in his crib. The piece of metal breaks through the wooden frame and stop in front of WILLIAM. SCULLY and REYES run into the room to see the metal piece leisurely floating and slowly turning above the baby.]

REYES: I saw her child do things that could be explained no other way. I saw him display amazing powers. He'd move objects with his mind.

KALLENBRUNNER: Really? Do you think we could arrange a demonstration for the court? That we could see that ourselves?

REYES: No. The child was given up for adoption to an anonymous family.

(MULDER once again isn't unaffected by this.)

KALLENBRUNNER: She gave up the miracle child? The proof of everything that she and Mulder claim that they've risked their lives for over the last nine years - she just sent it off to some strangers?

Could that be because Scully had her eggs biologicaly manipulated? Or does it have something to do with the abnormal mind capacity that was killing Mulder (season 7) and William, somehow, came up inheriting those powers?

I would apreciate your opinions and/or your explanations, cause i didn´t watch most of the 8th season and all of the 9th season! If you want, send me a PM

I would love to know your opinion about this matter! ;)

It´s funny, because on MSN, there is something about the most cute couples of the TV, and they talk a little about Mulder and Scully, as well as the fact they had a child! ^_^

I wasn't that scary! I was 8 when it premiered, and I fell in love the show!

I believe my dad watched the series all the way through. I didn't start watching it (and I could barely watch it then since I was only like 11/12) until I believe the end of season 8. But I've seen the movie, and I do like the show. Plus, I am a total Scully/Mulder shipper!

I had to laugh David Fury said Lost would be based on "real science or at least real pseudoscience." "Real pseudoscience"?! That's an oxymoron!
✌️

I got my hands on the entire 7th season... some weak episodes, but most of them are so good.

My favorite is, hands down, Closure. One of my favorite eps ever.

I really liked the ending. It was like M/S forever. Too bad Mulder and Scully couldn't save the world.
P.S. OMG! Skinner was still alive. This was crazy.

Yeah! It´s only a pitty that William wasn´t with his real parents... :(

I just found this thread while I was browsing about, but I totally LOVE the xfiles.
I didn't get into it from the start because I was way too young but my brother was totally in love with the show. Then when I got a bit older I started to watch but only the last couple of seasons. Now I watch the re-runs whenever I can but there's still so many eps I haven't seen.

But yeah I'm a mulder/scully shipper too....they were definitely my first ship!! :D

just watched the 3-parter with Scully's cancer - you know..where it goes into remission at the end? It was adorable....made me cry several times.

I must admit I was that addicted to the X-Files, I still retain something of an encyclopaedic knowledge of the show (sad, I know). Before Alias came along, it was the only show on TV that really fulfilled me in terms of storyline, character & plot development. It defined an era, the mid-90's & I think it had a huge impact on the way writers approached TV series. Could you imagine the Rambaldi mythology existing before the alien mythology in the X-Files?. I think J. J. Abrams is heavily inspired by Chris Carter.

I think in retrospect, my favourite season was the second. It had everything. The Duane Barry saga that kickstarted the conspiracy in many ways. It brought the Smoking Man into play for the first time really, plus Skinner & 'X'. And it's storylines were genuinely scary. I was particularly chilled by 'Die Hand Die Verletzt', the one with the demon schoolteacher. It scared the living daylights out of me.

Over the years I think it's impact weakened. Despite how genuinely funny most of them were, there were too many comedy stories & it kind of took away the chiller elements. It was hard to take it seriously anymore. Moving the show from Vancouver to Los Angeles also took away that feeling the stories could happen where you live. It all became a bit too glossy & lost that realistic feel the first few series had. The writers basically losing control of the mythology; reducing Scully to a third wheel in the final series; killing off most of it's interesting supporting cast & David Duchovny leaving didn't help much either. And the less said about the final episode, the better!...

None of this detracts from the fact The X-Files was a great show, a real classic that will stand the test of time. Without it, there would be no Buffy, no Angel, no Smallville & most importantly, no Alias... :D
