Everybody's favorite 1980's space lizards are coming back!

Variety magazine is reporting that V, the mini-series about lizard-like aliens that invade Earth in search of food & water, will be remade for ABC.

"V" Creator None Too Pleased About ABC Reboot [V]

"V" Creator None Too Pleased About ABC Reboot [V]

[IMG] Someone is pissed they stole his alien movie pitch. The original V series creator Kenneth Johnson is not very happy with ABC for forcing his alien invasion back onto the telly without his blessing. The weird part is what he wrote on his website.

    On Johnson's site he writes:
When projects that bore Kenny’s original creative stamp and control have been taken on by other people, audiences have seen the results: earlier attempts at reviving V, as well as The Incredible Hulk movies and the recently reimagined Bionic Woman all proved to be serious misfires which unfortunately failed with the critics and with the public. Though ABC is again considering the possibility of developing a TV pilot project, it is a script development deal only and does not in any way affect Kenny’s ongoing efforts to remake his original classic as a major motion picture.

Sounds like sour grapes, but why the strange use of the third person to talk about himself?

What I read from this is he's pissed because his script, V: The Second Generation didn't fit the bill for Hollywood or they decided to go "another direction" entirely. I understand his pain because he probably spent some amount of time writing it. But let's call a spade a spade — V was a ridiculous melodrama (which I loved). We're not rewriting Shakespeare here, people. I say do them all: The more face-ripping lizard aliens having sex and enslaving our race the better.

    [Kenneth Johnson]

I remember making my parents watch v. they hated it while I couldn't get enough. Of course i could never catch all the episodes so it wasn't till recently I managed to find and watch the series. I think a remake could work out nicely if it was promoted right. I don't think they should push it with to much reference to the 80's version. They should just do it like bsg and release it and let those who remember fondly make their own associations.

I watched a couple of shows from the new series, I think it's going to fizzle out really quickly. I bet they don't bring it back come fall

I thought the ratings for the mini-series were actually pretty good?

This reminds me of the time they made a darker and edgier remake of Battlestar Galactica.

My only problem with the story is the fact that the aliens come in peace (not really). If they have an evil plot to eat/rape humans, then why don't they come in--guns blazing--and raze the place?

.... because it is a lot easier to conquer your enemy when he has laid down his weapons and has his hand stretched out to shake yours. ;)

    Well said Kevin

I've seen the first 5 episodes here in the UK and although I like it I don't understand why they feel the need to change it. Dianna is now Anna?? WHY lol I'm all for updating the graphics and making it look more up to date but leave the story and characters as they are!!
You don't see them remaking Hamlet and calling it Horace..... ;)

But I have seen them remake The Taming of the Shrew and calling it 10 Things I Hate About You. :D

    V series remake 2010.

How many of you remember watching V the series back in in 1983 and 1984? I remember sitting down each week and faithfully following it. By todays standards the plot was cheesy and quite predictable yet i didnt care and loved every minute of it.

Now folks, dont get your suspenders in an uproar, they have created a new series that will be coming out around 2010.

This series only reflects the premise of the V (visitors) coming to earth in massive motherships and taking our resources and that is the only constant.

i have put a video here to let everyone see the trailer and judge for yourself.

i will be honest. after watching the trailer i was intrigued with the storyline and look forward to seeing it. i do hope they dont put it on scifi or rather syfy since that will ruin it there.

    Threads merged. :)

If you check 00smita's location, it is likely a case where the new episodes are just starting to air in that region.

The V season finale definitely ended with a bang! For those who follow the Cool Sci-Fi Twitter feed, you already knew that there was going to be some major shakeups. ;)

Two characters confirmed dead, one likely dead, one likely will be tortured & then dead, and one character missing. Add on to that the introduction of the mysterious Project Aries (headed by Marc Singer, another alumni of the original V mini-series), an invasion fleet cloaked above Earth, and that Anna's biggest threat might actually be a little girl, it finally made for some interesting TV watching.

It is just a shame that the most interesting episode so far was the season finale and possibly the series finale as well if it does not get renewed for a 3rd season.

    hahaha, Spot on man!

I didn't see the original, wasn't old enough, but I was actually digging this one, I rather prefer the psychological attack, specially being a sequel. I don't know why it didn't really pick up, I thought it had some interesting things in it, like the lead hero being a gal, thought that was interesting, sure she doesn't have Hilary Clinton's nuts but I thought she did a pretty good job.

Plot is interesting when you got these early lizards who fell in love with human chicks, overall I thought it was a really good shot at it. Guess the general public thought otherwise

Unfortunately I think you didn't miss much with the 2nd season since it really moved so slowly with the story line. I understand the writers of the show not wanting to reveal too much too fast, since it is supposed to be a series instead of just a mini-series, but it got to the point of there just being one or two key scenes per episode with a lot of fluff wrapping.
