I agree that maybe he left the CIA after he went nuts trying to find Sydney, and he couldn't take he not being there. Then He turned to Alice stricken with grief, and she took him in understanding about Sydney. Just like Vaughn understood about Danny, since S/V got together only a year and a half after Danny's death.

Okay... It probably isn't Alice... now i'm thinking it was that blond who was new at the CIA who didn't really have a purpose... i don't remember her name..
