Politics Gun Control

The second amendment of the United States Constitution states:

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Obviously, the need for a state militia has been replaced by the National Guard and Coast Guard, whereby trained military personnel are entrusted with the defense of this country against domestic enemies. Their weapons are tightly controlled and safeguarded.

The only two reasons for a citizen to own a firearm are for hunting or defense of the household from intruders. In either case, ownership of a handgun, shotgun or rifle is more than adequate to satisfy these purposes. There is absolutely no need for any U.S. civilian to own any weapon more powerful or sophisticated than these.

Accordingly, all handguns, shotguns and rifles must be licensed and registered to the degree necessary to match weapon to owner at the click of a computer key. Furthermore, we must guarantee that the mentally ill do not gain access to them under any circumstances. Finally, if we had prohibited the purchase of more sophisticated weapons, several innocent victims would not have died or been harmed at shopping malls, college campuses, Congressional meetings, churches and now concerts. We as a country must deal with this issue immediately lest our society fall back to the days when everyone carried a holster.

I do believe you have the right to hold your own beliefs, but our founding fathers set up this nation with the rules that we have now. People kill people, not guns. A person could kill someone with a gun, knife, car, bat, or stone. So you want to limit all of them as well too?

Now before you call me some gun nut, let me tell you about me. I am a ex-US Army Airborne Ranger - Sniper, and I have been in combat and have done my duty and yes I killed the enemy. I do not go hunting as a sport, but I do target shoot. I own three hand guns, and five rifles(two being black powder rifles). Also I am a college grad and IT professional. Many of my friends are in Law Enforcement (Police, State Troopers, and US Marshals), and we all enjoy target shooting.

Many of us are former US Military, and everyone has multiple weapons of all types. I know that everyone has all the required licenses and registered these same weapons. Now I will tell you full automatic weapons are WORTHLESS, I could do more damage with a bolt action rifle going after selective targets.

Now do I believe a single citizen should be able to buy 48 weapons, I will say that is a bit much! Didn't this nut in Las Vegas buy 32 weapons in the past year, that should have called some attention to him. So I think we should be allowed to buy weapons that are always licensed and registered. Also they should go through a back ground check as well too. The number and types of weapons should be noted, and as long as a person continues to not brake the laws and not send up warning signals they should be able to purchase legal weapons.

For the record I have a friend that bought and restored a WWII US Tank, he uses it in local parades. I don't think that guy will be robbing any banks with it or running down any people either. He has passed all the background checks and etc. to own it. I do believe he is perfectly in his right to own it, just like others own War planes from WWI, WWII, and etc.

It isn't the items that kill people, it is the People that kill people.

A bad guy will always find what he or she wants, disarming everyone or regulating everyone really wont work. There are very large groups of responsible folks out there that get training, get certificates, and responsibly store their weapons. I am one. Its a shame that a small few crack pots take foolish steps for their own pleasure, but folks here will always have a way of protection, you can never depend on any one but your self, know the law and your limits and you should be ok. Weapons are also used for hunting, sports, and competition, and some are for collectors, so again you are entitled to your opinion, other folks are entitled to theirs. Always hope for the best, and be careful out there.....

You know for years after I got out of the service I didn't own any weapons. It is only over time and prompting of friends that I have picked up different weapons. Mostly for me I do target practice with my friends.

My family is full military, ww-1, ww-2, Korea, and nam, 1 died for mustard gas in ww-1, so when I hear the notion the cost of freedom, I ignore it, because its been paid for by my family. Those football meatheads taking a knee are disrespecting my family as well as the the brothers in the Tuskegee airforce, silly meatheads! Our tax dollars pay for their stupid stadiums, and our paychecks pay their stupid salary. Get off your butt and earn your pay! I love range time too my friend, I learn tactical training from police and military when I enjoy my sport. Most important of all safety!!!!

I think of all the losses that my own different family lines have paid in blood to defend this countries Battle Flag. In my case we have had people fight in every war we have ever had; Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, and etc. I lost two brothers in Vietnam as MIAs. Both were pilots, one a Naval Fighter pilot, and the other was a Army Air Cavalry Chopper pilot. They were both shot down and listed as MIAs, confirmed surviving but lost afterwards. So when I see anyone trashing our Battle Flag or disrespecting America anything, I become greatly enraged. It always seems that those that do it, never served nor done anything in their lives to support our great country. They just want to take and have all the benefits, but do nothing to defend our country.

Just curious... as a gun owner & supporter, what kind of actions do you think should trigger a warning signal prompting some type of action to be taken?

I would say buying more that 1 weapon a month in a 3 month time, thus if someone bought more than three weapon every three months I believe that a excess and should have someone make a call on said person and interview them. I know from my own experiences a person of just one weapon with paper work and review ad the cost of that weapon and etc. is rather a lot for anyone to begin with. The cost alone for most people is stiff, then the ammo and etc. I know this is a grey area and legal folks should better define this process better.

I know when I bought my Black Powder Rifles, I purchased them one at a time and there was about a year apart between buying the next. I also took classes before I bought my first and did a lot of practice shooting afterwards to make sure of my own ability with the first rifle before I purchased the second rifle. My next purchase might be a Black Powder Pistol but I am looking into what I might like to purchase. I am at the research looking point still. If I buy one that would be the only weapon I will buy this year, currently I own a total of 8. I have not purchased any antique weapons at all, but maybe I might consider buying some antique weapons in the future.

That sick bastard p.o.s that shot up that church was greased by an At-15, I'm glad some one nailed one of these loosers, glad we are protected by our 2nd amendment rights. Gun control, ain't happing........
