An Old Friend
I'm wondering how many of you are planning to do extensive Christmas shopping on Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday?
I haven't endured that mess since the kids were little.
I rarely shop online so basically, I just do my Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve.

Black Friday is an informal name for the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States (the fourth Thursday of November), which has been regarded as the beginning of the country's Christmas shopping season since 1952. Most major retailers open very early (and more recently during overnight hours) and offer promotional sales. ~ wiki

Cyber Monday is a marketing term for the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. The term "Cyber Monday" was created by marketing companies to persuade people to shop online. The term was coined by Ellen Davis and Scott Silverman, and made its debut on November 28, 2005 in a Shop.org press release entitled "'Cyber Monday' Quickly Becoming One of the Biggest Online Shopping Days of the Year". ~ wiki

Something else- I just don't shop. My friends & relatives will get a card. I love Christmas, the lights and music, the movies. The gift-giving just stopped about 5 years ago. Lol, I think we are all too tired.

Hhhhm... not sure which poll answer to go with since my family stopped the gift giving thing several years back, with the exception of my Mom when she was still with us and now my brother's daughter, but during Black Friday sales I'll pick up stuff we (me & Mrs. Kevin) might need/want. For example, just before coming online here I picked up six t-shirts, with free shipping, for $7.49 each as part of a Black Friday sale. Since I am in jeans & t-shirts 99.9% of the time that's a great buy for me.

I avoid going to the retail stores but will browse online if anything catches my attention. Maybe a "Cyber Black Friday"?

So, I ended up buying some cheap stuff on Amazon on "Cyber Monday". Nothing I needed, mind you, but cheap like a kit for pulling out stripped screws and a kit of remote control outlet plugs.

I wouldn't say extensive shopping. But yes I look out for presents that have been reduced that are already on my wish list. Although having said that I know people that do.

Christmas is but a one day holiday.
I now have a few grandchildren with birthdays near Christmas.
I give gifts all year long now so Christmas gifting is limited to a single gift per person.
Its not like when the kids were young and I lavished them with many gifts.

When I gift someone (no matter the reason), I give them something that I want them to have verses what they want. I would rather gift as a surprise than an expected requirement. I'm one to give keepsakes with inscriptions verses the current favorite thing. Too often in the past, I have seen favorite gifts in the garbage or yard sale shortly after the event. The 'new thing' excitement wears off and the item is forgotten. With keepsakes, the item holds special significance in the future.

I always get my grandbabies a teddy bear when they are born. Customized with its very own name (Which is also my petname for that person) and that "Grandpa Loves" them. I often wonder who will have their bear when their own children are born?
