I enjoyed Skyline and news of a sequel is very anticipated by me. I'm curious on whether they continue where the first movie left off or if it is a post-occupation survival movie.
I will certainly be watching for this release. Expected early 2016.

From the description I'd be curious as to whether it takes place after the movie or in concurrence with the original movie; same event, different set of people with their own story.

Good point!
The picture really doesn't reveal much and if I remember right when the aliens transform you there is very little resemblance to a human left. I see a human hand & arm in the pic?

In any case, it should make for some good scifi.
I just hope my trend doesn't hold. Every movie I have looked forward to lately has been a let down.
Case in point: Harbinger Down.

Fast paced, colourful and slightly goofy sci-fi flick, with a little bit of domestic drama, a little bit of martial-arts mayhem, and a whole lot of angry aliens! Movie shifts and turn all over the place with such loopy randomness, I couldn't help but like it. Loved the old-school Godzilla-style monster mash! I'll have to go and watch the original now...
10 outta 10 and 10 times better than the original Skyline.
This film is very enjoyable cheese. I am happy with what I watched, but I would in no way compare this to any of the other big name films mentioned (Predator, Raid, AvP, etc.). There were lots of implausible scenes, and the costumes were a might awkward, however, it was amusing and had some good CGI to balance it out. I found the acting along the same caliber as the first, kinda B-cheesey-ish, but that suits me down to the ground because I enjoyed it as well. It's definitely worth a viewing, just don't look too closely and enjoy the cheese on everything.
Ok that was epic, not to happy with how the 1st story ended but the movie was so awesome. I hope we don't have to wait another 7 years for a 3rd installment.
Beyond Skyline. Beyond Belief It's Actually Better Than The First Movie. This sequel, which mirrors a new set of characters during the brain-stealing alien siege of L.A. finds itself with more heart, more interesting characters and a better story arc than its debut predecessor. And that in its own right is quite remarkable. The special effects even rival that of the first installment, with plenty of city-wrecking alien mayhem to keep action junkies happy, and decent acting to keep the more cinema sophisticate placated that his $15 ticket hasn't gone to waste. Of course like Skyline, Beyond still is missing the brains taken in the first movie to create any sort of profound statement disguised in a sci-fi costume. But the movie gives the core a father-son dynamic that helps viewers latch onto a hinge that makes you care for the outcome of the movie, something that lacked in the first movie, even with the pregnancy twist in the original Skyline. That said, there is a great tie-in midway through the movie. So, grab a beer and celebrate popcorn sci-fi at its finest.
This film is on my immediate watch list for this weekend. (Listed as 'watched' because I have the link to the stream bookmarked and ready for viewing.) I'll definately be adding this to my collection, based on the trailer and the reviews. Then it will be a 2 in one watch with pauses and notations for my own personal review.

I watched it last night, stream was crystal clear.
First impression was WOW.
There are a few sensical issues within the plot but they didn't really distract from the film.
Perhaps on additional viewing they might make more sense?
The action was full and encompassing.
Even in scenes where actual battles were not happening, mainly because of the alien technology design look.
It gave me a sense of fragmented surfaces.
The tie in with the first movie is done with finess and doesn't rely on using clips of the first film to show the scene. Its more of a 'different view' of the first film's scenes and well-edited to look like and hold as their own scenes. I could be wrong, won't know till I rewatch the first film then this one again.
I checked to see when it will be in theaters because I would love to see this big screen or in 3d but there are no showtimes listed. I think its straight to dvd? What a shame, if any film should be shown at theaters, this one surely fits that bill.
Right now, first impression I have to give this 5 stars out of 5.

Just checked Netflix... shows a January, 2018, availability so I added it to my DVD queue. (y)
Came & watched already. It wasn't bad; as Tom mentions it is a quasi-sequel to the original but not being familiar with the original movie won't detract you from watching this one. Whereas the first movie was mostly told from the ground level of the survivors in the the city this one mostly takes place in one of the ships and concentrates on direct fighting with the aliens. In a bit of irony it is the trying to tie it to the first movie that actually introduces a plot hole.

The ending does a flash forward and sets up the premise for a possible third movie that I wouldn't mind seeing.

The DVD from Netflix caught my attention because I think it was the first time ever that I had a DVD from them that had no "preview" commercials that had to be sat through.

All in all, if you're a sucker for sci-fi B grade action movies like me then you may like it. :D

The whole theme of this film was tied to what happened in the first film and if another sequel is made it will also tie into the first film.
To be specific requires a spoiler
The child he is protecting is a result of contamination of her father in the first film.
The fact that her blood is the kill code for the aliens is based on her father's ability to resist the mind reconditioning as hinted at the end of the first film and reinforced in this film.
Her blood initiates a viral change in reconditioned units, returning them to human personality.
To get the child into the story and to explain the cause and effect of the resistance the birth mother and modified father were needed.
The concept, if continued correctly, could give us a film where humans adopt the alien technology and wage a war against the aliens using their own armaments and technology.

Yes, a third film, if given the proper treatment could exceed the science fiction of the first two.

Right now, first impression I have to give this 5 stars out of 5.
After watching it a few more times I revise my initial rating to 3/5 stars, 7/10.
Not because of the acting or plot but because it has a 'jumbled' feel to it.
Like it was trying to follow too many different things at the same time.
