Looks like production is still on track to begin in early 2019, as director Ruben Fleischer gave a brief update in a recent interview. Here's what he had to say: "We're already actually starting Zombieland. I've been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true. It's been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we're just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we're going to start shooting in Georgia in January." (9/17/18)
The original cast have officially signed on, with production aimed to begin sometime January 2019. (7/13/18)
Some rumors have surfaced recently involving the film's storyline, which takes place several years after the events of the first. Here's the rumored storyline for the film: "..follows the gang as they attempt to find Little Rock after she ran away with an individual (unnamed due to spoilers). Columbus, Tallahassee, and Wichita embark on a journey that takes them all the way across the country to hopefully save LR from certain death. [Meanwhile] the regular, lumbering creatures from the first film have no interest in humans anymore, rendering them essentially extinct, they have been replaced by SUPER ZOMBIES—giant, muscular, incredibly tough beings that are only able to be killed through a headshot. A horde of these super-zombies has been migrating from city to city, destroying everything in its wake. And it’s up to the gang to finally put an end to this bloodshed, or face extinction themselves. What follows on this journey is plenty of laughs, thrills, and action that almost makes the first film look like child’s play in comparison." (5/24/18)
Co-writer Paul Wernick gave an update on the project, which may finally be moving forward. Here's what he had to say: "We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2… The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October ’19 release. With the original cast, by the way. We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment, but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon." (5/15/18)
Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had a recent interview where they revealed the current status of the project, saying: "It is [in active development]. We're trying to get it going. All of our cast have read the script and love it. Reuben [Fleischer] is signed on. It's just a matter of making our cast deals and making it for a budget number. All the cast have become superstars now so, we made Zombieland with 20 million, so it's trying to fit that financial model into the sequel model so it makes sense for the studio and being able to pay the actors what they now get paid and deserve to paid." Adding... "We see [Sony Pictures Chairman] Tom Rothman pretty frequently now and we're pestering that dude. He's like, 'Please, enough with the Zombieland talk!' We're pestering him the way we pestered Fox on Deadpool. We're not letting it go. We really want to see Zombieland 2." (3/23/17)
It looks like producion is moving forward with the sequel and original Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Rheese have recently revealed that they're officially back as writers and the plan is to have all the original cast return, saying: "We’re on Zombieland 2 right now. We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.” (8/29/16)
Original Zombieland co-writer Rhett Reese had a recent interview where he revealed what's going on with the sequel, saying: "It’s actually still in development at Sony, they’ve had a couple writers take a crack at it, we’re still exec producers and we’re guiding and helping where we can and I think there’s still very much talk about it, but I think it has to be right. I think all the actors and [original ‘Zombieland' director] Ruben [Fleischer], all feel like there’s no reason to do it again if we’re not getting it exactly right." (2/22/16)
Scripted by Dave Callaham (Doom, The Expendables), under the supervision of Ruben Fleischer.
Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs Evil) directed a 30-minute pilot, which premiered on Amazon's Instant Video service around mid-April 2013. The pilot got mixed reviews and the studio ultimately decided not to move forward with the online series. Now it appears that the studio is once again interested in the project and is pursuing a sequel with Ruben Fleischer returning to direct. (9/30/14)
The Zombieland pilot has been filmed and is planning to air to Amazon Prime members online mid-April 2013. If successful, it will turn into a 12-episode online series. Meanwhile, the movie's sequel is on hold while the filmmakers work closely with the series. (3/26/13)
Despite the previous news of a film sequel likely not ever happening, it seems that intention of turning it into a series is still in the works. You can find some details on characters expected to be in the potential series here. (1/18/13)
Director Ruben Fleischer had an interview recently where he revealed that there's currently no plans to pursue the sequel, but he wouldn't quite rule it out entirely, saying: "I hate to do it, but I can say that there’s no immediate plans to make the movie. There’s no script, really, so the likelihood of it happening is slim. But I would not wanna put a nail in that coffin." When asked what his ideas were for the script, he said: "Needless to say it was a continuation of the original story with the same characters. I guess the only thing I could really say is that the threat to our heroes wasn’t only zombies, like they encounter other people that they’re all jockeying for positions." (1/10/13)
This project is now "on hold" with word that original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are working on a half-hour comedy series based on the movie. This works out for the writers since the first film was originally intended to be a television series to begin with. Fox is developing the show, with a potential 2012/2013 broadcast eyed. Assuming the show does proceed and become a success, it's said that the sequel to the movie will likely not happen. (10/26/11)
Director Ruben Fleischer offered an update on the project recently, saying: "I can promise you it's something we all want to do. I think the reality of it happening is getting less and less real. It's just harder and harder every day, because everybody's gotten really busy and the reality is that we've never had a script that we've all just fallen in love with. Until there's a script that we all can say, 'This is it,' it's more of an idea than an actual thing that we can work towards prioritizing and realizing." (7/18/11)
Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin all return to reprise their roles.
This film will be in 3D.
The sequel to the 2009 horror-comedy Zombieland.

John Krasinski is currently scripting the film with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck and had a recent interview where he explains how he's approaching the next movie, saying: "I don’t even see it as a sequel. Emily [Blunt] actually blew my mind by categorizing it the correct way after I pitched it to her. She said, ‘This isn’t a sequel at all — this is the second book in a series of books. It’s a widening of a world.’ And I thought that’s the best way to look at it. It doesn’t feel like a sequel — it’s a continuation of living in that world. I can’t wait to get in there and keep writing and see what this movie wants to allow itself to be. And that will happen in the script process and the shooting and the editing. But I think what’s cool about the second part of this movie is the same set of rules have to apply. I can’t just introduce a world where you can make a ton of sound, and if I did, there would have to be a reason for it. So it’s figuring out if there are smart and clever ways to do it." (11/30/18)
Producer Andrew Form recently revealed that they're taking their time with the sequel, saying: "[Krasinski is] definitely involved [in some compacity]. We’re lucky on this one. I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, ‘Here’s your date. Let’s go!’ and on this one we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing. So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it and we’re just starting to talk about it. We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything. It’s such a special movie to us, the experience and everything. It’s easy to rush these and we’ve made movies in the past where we’ve rushed them through and we’ve felt it, and we just don’t wanna do it on this one. We really don’t. We really just wanna take our time and as long as it takes, it takes. It has to be the right story, just like the first one. It just has to be." (6/29/18)
John Krasinski had a recent interview where he discussed what he'd like to see with a sequel, saying: "The thing that I loved in the movie, where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive? In the extreme these characters are going through, there’s no room to think about that. They’re there, there’s an old man who’s about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what’s going on elsewhere at this same time." (5/8/18)
Writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck return to script. On the topic of a sequel they've reportedly said the following: "It’s such a fun world. There are so many things you could do. There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer. So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell.”
No word if John Krasinski will return to direct, but it seems unlikely since he's busy prepping another movie with Paramount. (4/25/18)
This is a sequel to A Quiet Place, which has made over $200-million on a production budget of only $17-million.

MGM’s Jon Glickman was quoted saying: "We cannot wait for the world to see what the mind-blowing combination of Jordan, Win and Nia bring to the legend of Candyman. They have created a story that will not only pay reverence to Clive Barker’s haunting and brilliant source material but is also thoroughly modern and will bring in a whole new generation of fans." (11/27/18)
Producer Jordan Peele was quoted saying: "The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre. Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as a filmmaker, and to have a bold new talent like Nia at the helm of this project is truly exciting. We are honored to bring the next chapter in the Candyman canon to life and eager to provide new audiences with an entry point to Clive Barker’s legend." (11/27/18)
Directed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods).
This project is co-produced by Jordan Peele (Get Out), who also scripts with Win Rosenfeld.
No word if Tony Todd will return as Candyman, but it seems unlikely.
The original movie was adapted from Clive Barker's story The Forbidden, which saw Tony Todd in the title role as "Candyman," who was an urban legend that would become real when he was summoned to kill the person that says his name five times while facing a mirror.
This is a remake that's being described as a "contemporary and spiritual sequel" to the original.
