Entertainment Weekly recently compiled a list of what they felt were the best & worst movie theme songs. Oddly Iris from City of Angels did not make the list!

For your enjoyment, or displeasure :p, here is the best & worst along with links to YouTube for each of the songs so you check them out...

Looking back, yeah, I'm surprised that one didn't make the list.

Best: Theme from 'Chinatown', though it's an instrumental.
'Goldfinger', 'View to a Kill' and several other Bond themes.
    'Blue Bus' from Apocalypse Now.

on the 'worst' list, any of the recent Bond films.

Skyfall was okay. I was thinking of the Dalton/Brosnan era.

The only song that I'm recalling from that era is "The World is Not Enough" by Garbage. That is likely a bad thing since that era was, what, about 5 or 6 movies?

I've seen a lot of bad movies with great soundtracks. I just came back from the beach so my brain isn't thinking right now but I reserve the post to make some examples later.
(???Who talks like that???) - I do

I like a couple songs from the Magus (2008) but I don't know who does them.
Sucker Punch and Wanted had some good tunes too.
I liked the guitar work in the old Werewolf series.
David Gilmour did a great job in Legend.
Pink Floyd did the soundtrack for Colours of Infinity by Arthur C Clarke.
Jaws and The Thing (1982) rank pretty high for the best monotonous instumentals.
I enjoyed the opening trance music for Blade, so much so, I started collecting trance music.
Loved the redneck jamming in Trailer Park of Terror.
In Evil Aliens the Combine Harvester song seemed most appropriate. Made me think of Brand New Key by Melanie

    Lets See...
Wolf Moon had a few songs I liked by Geoff Gibbons. Cryin Down The Moon, Bones on the Road & No Ordinary Sin...
Who doesn't like Man of Constant Sorrow from Oh Brother Where Art Thou?
The bar scene music in From Dusk Till Dawn was alluring.
I've seen a gazillion chase scenes with electronic midi loops. For a taste click Julian Angel: Sounds of Action
Chevelle did Still Running in The Punisher
    Daredevil
had Bring Me To Life by Evanescence
    El Mariachi
from Once Upon A Time In Mexico is fantastic Guitar work, soothing.
Trailer Park Boys had Bobcaygeon by Tragically Hip
Feuer Frei by Rammstein in xXx was fantastic! Fit the mood of the scene.
