It's been a bad time for cinema owners recently having to deal with ticket prices, the usual insanity coming out of L.A, and a possible tip into recession. The mantra of "Survive till 25" has been something of a disaster with flops coming thick and fast as the paying public decided they wanted to jettison cinema as an entertainment source. I for one am not surprised, we're in the era of slope at the cinema where the Studios haven't yet learnt they actually need to entertain their customers, oh and make if affordable.
Major movies to bomb in 2025, thus far, more to come folks:
Better Man - well who ever thought this one would make anything like a decent earn deserves to be sacked, sub $2 million result in North America on a movie touted to be a big hit in 2025
Naturally worse was to come!
Disney's Snow White - as of writing the movie has cranked to $72.9 million, and looks likely to not make breakout hit status. Hollywood in a nut shell this one, a lead Actress that irritated the hell out of people and came across as an obnoxious brat, a marketing campaign that your ginger haired cousin might have come up with, and the complete jettison of the original story about true love, inserting a Girl Boss instead. Jesus wept! What was expected to earn half a billion in North American takings alone, is pretty much dead and buried already.
Which brings us to A Minecraft Movie, early reviews not good, a certain Actor who is the modern equiv of Adam Sandler, another bomb coming in .... except ... Friday estimates, they didn't do pre-screenings with good reason, a cool $58 million!
Cinemas had survived the first quarter on 2024 hangovers, some big hits last year, but 2025 was not looking good, except now a movie adaptation of a kid's game might save the whole industry. We truly live in weird and wonderful times, which isn't a good thing by the way.
