Chapter 1
It had been almost a year since Vaughn had killed Lauren in Pallermo, and he and Sydney had reunited. It was tougher than he'd expected to deal with the fact that he had been the one to ultimate end her life. For a few months after that night, he kept thinking he saw her everywhere he went. Eventually, with a little counseling and a lot of TLC Sydney style, he had come to terms with the fact that he did what was necessary to save Sydney's life. Syd and Vaughn mutually agreed that they would take things slow, considering the complications of their relationship thus far.
Sydney currently lived with her sister Nadia. The two of them ended up moving in together about six months ago, into a cozy house on the beach just between Santa Monica and Malibu. Living with Nadia had renewed a happiness in Sydney she hadn't felt for quite a long time. At first, there had been some tension between the two of them, considering Sydney's extreme hatred of Sloane, and Nadia's obdurate love of her father. Recently, the two sisters had been getting along so well, it had been a dream come true for both of them. Although they grew up so far apart, and with very different lifestyles; the had so much in common. Growing up, they both felt so alone in everything they went through, it was great having someone to laugh with and share secrets. Sydney hadn't felt like that since Francie was still alive. She was with Vaughn and finally it felt like her life was truly getting good again.
She smiled to herself when she saw Vaughn staring at her from the other room. He was sitting on the edge of her bed, dressed casually in dark jeans and a black t-shirt, his hair still damp from the shower. Having him around still made her tingle from head to toe. He was all hers, and she knew it would always be like this.
Even in faded jeans and a simple light blue t-shirt, Sydney Bristow was the most beautiful thing Michael Vaughn had seen, or would ever see in his entire life. Vaughn sat on the edge of her bed watching her through the doorway of her bathroom as she tentatively applied a light sheen of gloss to her beautiful supple lips. Vaughn and Weiss lived just down the beach a few miles from Syd and Nadia, even though he and Sydney didn't technically live together, they rarely spent a night apart.
"So, how drunk do you think Weiss is going to get tonight?" Sydney asked as she pulled her hair back into a tight ponytail.
"Obscenely if I have anything to do with it." Vaughn replied walking over to the doorway, chuckling when he thought of Weiss' antics of birthdays past.
"What?" she asked turning towards him, her smile completely beaming from ear to ear.
"I was just thinking about Weiss' 21st birthday. What a mess! We went to this Irish Pub, O'Callaghan's with a few frat brothers. He got so drunk that a few of us had to carry...no, drag him out of the bar. I'm surprised he didn't get brain damage!"
"Who says he didn't?" She laughed turning towards Vaughn. "Well, I can't wait to go out, Bumpers is one of Weiss' favorite places around...not to mention the fact the for once we both have the whole weekend off." She smiled.
Vaughn slipped his arms around her waist her smile reflecting on to his, and he pulled her tightly against his body lightly brushing his lips upon hers. They pulled away slowly and just stared into each other's eyes for a few moments, until the ringing of Syd's phone interrupted them from their thoughts.
"I'll get it." Vaughn said turning towards the other room.
She groaned at the loss of his arms around her waist and followed him to her nightstand as he answered her telephone.
"Hello?" Vaughn said picking up the receiver
"Hey Vaughn, get the lead out, it's almost 7 already"
"Weiss" Vaughn mouthed to Sydney-"We're leaving in 5 minutes." He said laughing at his best friend's impatience.
"Well, I'll be expecting you in no more that twelve minutes, starting now."
"OK, see you in a few." Vaughn said, hanging up and turning back towards Sydney.
"Is he getting impatient?" Sydney asked
"Yea, he's like a little kid on his birthday."
"Well we'd better get going." She said grabbing Vaughn's keys and a small white envelope with Eric written on it.
"Hold on a second," he said grabbing her hand a pulling her into his chest "We still have four minutes."
"Mr. Vaughn, four minutes is nowhere near long enough for what you are implying." She whispered into his ear, sending shivers down his spine.
"And what are you implying I am implying Miss Bristow?" He said softly nibbling on her ear, causing her to both moan and giggle at the same time.
"Vaughn, we need to go right now, or we're going to miss Eric's Birthday." She said softly in his ear, then turned dragging him behind her towards the door.
"OK." He smiled stopping and pulling her suddenly to his lips, "We'll pick up where we left off later tonight." he added breaking their kiss.
Sydney grinned at his insatiable nature as he politely opened her door for her, carefully placing his fingertips on the small of her back, guiding her into his black SUV.
"You can bet on that." She said looking up at him as he shut the passenger side door and jogged over to the other side settling himself in the driver's side.
It was only about four miles down the road to Vaughn and Weiss' house, and when they arrived Weiss was outside talking on his cell phone loudly in the driveway.
"No way!" Weiss shouted "I had 21 shots on my 21st birthday, not to mention all the Guiness Mike made me drink, It's amazing I survived at all. No to mention those guys that wanted to kick my ass for hitting on their girlfriends.....Well, thanks buddy, wish you could be here too, See you later."
"I don't think those guys wanted to kick you ass for hitting on their girlfriends as much as they wanted to kick your ass for throwing up on them." Vaughn laughed
