Images of the self, unstuck from the self they image.
Agophobia is a film that explores a culture of post-human “Metadata” from the perspective of Ram, a cyborg in that society who wants to escape.
The word Agophobia is a neologism and a working title that means “fear of the past”. The title refers to the character’s struggles with the ethics and implications of obsolescence, duplication, hybridism, ego simulation, and the oncoming technological singularity point of their world that parallels our own. The characters of the film have internalized the rampant individualism and violent narcissism of their simulacrum society. The story offers metaphoric commentary on how a society inseparable from imagistic digital simulacrums breeds narcissism and identity distortion.
Contemporary first-world societies are slowly becoming inseparable from the digital realm. For better or worse, globalizing societies are empowered to change the core values of digital technologies. Societies must foster a more harmonious integration between humanity and technology or become consumed insomuch as allowing it to nullify basic human interactions, such as communication, expression, and relationships. Technologically, mankind is approaching an apex of connectivity. Agophobia will dramatize one possible outcome of this apex.
