Alias To Get Better Lead In

'TGIF' to Return as ABC Nears Upfront
By Brian Ford Sullivan

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) - ABC is set to announce the return of its TGIF comedy block at its annual upfront presentation on Tuesday. The news comes as the Alphabet network put the finishing touches on its fall 2003 schedule over the weekend.

A regular on its Friday lineup since 1987, TGIF was the home to such family comedies as "Full House," "Boy Meets World," "Family Matters," "Step by Step" and "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" over the years. ABC abandoned the franchise in the fall of 2000 and has yet to duplicate its success since. While specific members of the block next season were not revealed, "The George Lopez Show" is considered the leading candidate to make the switch. To make room for TGIF's resurrection, current Friday mainstay "America's Funniest Home Videos" will then move to either Thursday or Sunday nights.

Also expected on Tuesday: the announcement that "The Wonderful World of Disney" will be bumped to Saturday nights at 8:00/7:00c along with a new or returning drama at 10:00/9:00c. ABC hopes that by making the switch it can provide a better lead-in to "Alias" at 8:00/7:00c on Sundays, most likely a new drama.

I hope it isn't a new television show as a lead-in. Or if it is it better be one that attracts viewers unlike most of the other dramas that ABC has, they always end up canceled. We need a good lead-in for Alias. Remember 8pm is a pretty competitive time slot for TV.

this is what zap2it has to say about the new lead-in series:

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>10-8</span>
Premise: Based on a former sheriff's real experience, Danny Nucci plays Rico Amonte, a Brooklyn bad boy who becomes a cop. But nothing prepares him from the hazing he receives as a trainee, under the watchful eye of a tough veteran determined to make Rico into a by-the-book officer.
From What We've Seen: If "Training Day" had been pitched as a somewhat lighthearted coming-of age story, it might look like this. Hudson is the hard-ass sheriff's deputy who's assigned to train -- and tries to break down -- new academy graduate Nucci, who's trying to live down his larcenous past. The action you'd expect from a cop show is there, but the focus will more likely be on the rookies and the hazing they receive on the job.
Stars: Danny Nucci ("Titanic," "Snoops"), Ernie Hudson ("Oz"), Indigo ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Scott William Winters ("Oz"), Mercedes Colon and Travis Schuldt ("Passions")
Studio: Spelling Television and Touchstone Television
Producers: Aaron Spelling, E. Duke Vincent and Jorge Zamacona

Hope this is of interest . . .
