GFX Art of Pinnelipe

Just a few character drawings. I'm trying to learn how to draw better so I can draw a comic about a generic fantasy mmorpg. Anyhow! Here are my most recent drawings.

First of all, we have Qitarah and Amaltar. Qitarah was my main character played in Vanguard while Amaltar was Tyrson's. Tyrson's was my first adult male drawing as well as my first perspective drawing. I'm sure all you artists out there can see a million mistakes. It's dark like that because the scanner I used was a very old one at my school and I was in a rush to beable to do so. They aren't actually drawn with coal sticks.

This next one is working on the generic fantsy version of the characterI might be playing when Hero's Journey comes along, Claes. Here, I was trying to practice head perception.. Someone said in the first version that her head was too small, but I think in the end it got too big. Debating on whether to keep that skirt length and the coat tails, or to make the skirt go past her knees and take out the coat tails.

Isn't my handwriting purty?

Not breaking new ground exactly here except it's the first time I did a scarf on a head half-ways decent, but here is Vae Claywright.

Vae in a tree

Vae is a name I give to any character that might at times seem unreadable. Mischevious, mysterious, playful, but at the same time somehow adult. That is how it is now anyhow. The first Vae was here. She was an under cover agent in an organization under the direct control of the world's "Lead Leader" in a planned story called PMS (Post Male Society) and worked with a partner called Eav.

Previously unnamed except for "song" and so was given part of two names that meant "song". This is the beginning of Utavis. She was inspired by a beautiful picture and I think she's looking rather pretty herself. I'm getting nearer to realism.

Newer picture, still needs some cleaning up.

Re: Art of Momma

I'd probably keep the skirt and coattails as-is. They seem to fit better with the rest of the outfit, which is rather eccentric.

You did an especially good job on her face.

Re: Art of Momma

Thank you very much! I've been told that, in the past, most of my faces just have too nuetral an expression so I tried to get the "Get away from me!" expression throughout her face.

Re: Art of Momma

Yay! Like!

I especially like the elf, you did a great job on her face and I love the outfit. Short skirt, keep the coat tails. Little bit of detail, like lace or eyelets on the top of stockings would be adorable. And, cute asian style elf ears ftw. :D

You caught her character so well that now I can go about making her trouble making, impish, probably pain in the butt sister :D Only in my head, I can't draw for the felgercarb.

Now, more. *ties Momma to a chair* How's your comic coming?

Re: Art of Momma

*blinks at ropes, tugging a little before shrugging*Not well. I've been taking these pictures to a teacher at school that draws a lot and having him evaluate what I need to work on. I want to beable to draw all these chaarcter concepts well first.

Re: Art of Momma

Nice. Sadly, I fall in with A in that I, too, cannot draw for felgercarb. So sad! :_|

I like the coattails, though. Always like coattails... *sigh* As I've said, I cannot draw, but nor can I hold an image in my head. All thoughts - images and personalities... twist, fade, and are corrupted to the point that they are no longer recognizable as what they were. Sadly, it is for this reason that I cannot create characters properly. Were I able to draw, I could hold the image. Were I able to hold the image, I could anchor the personality to it. Were I able to anchor the personality to something, I could run through the countless scenarios, in which the character would likely find themselves, in my head. They would be complete.

Oh, the envy. :( I blame... Well, I can't think of anyone or anything to blame, so I'm just going to go ahead and blame everyone and everything. Sound good? K, thanks. Bye!

Re: Art of Momma

Something new drawn. I had asked both Vahsyl and Tyrson what class I was personality wise, and the responses were deffinately "rogueish" with a little "novice priestess", so I began wondering what sort of character would have a little of both of those personalities in her..

Enter Vae Claywright, the simple shipping clerk. I'm actually rather likeing her personality. Here's her picture..

And here are some life philosophies..

Everything has a price. Some just hide their tag.

Anyone can be a successful leader. Just need to know who to assign the work of leading to.

You can't learn anything without cracking a few pages.

Life is like an old book; hard on the outside, brittle all around, but inside there is always an adventure.

Some situational sayings to narrow down her personality..

"Mr. Johnson, I'm a clerk, not a massause. You'd do well to find something of the latter to rub those troubles away."

"No time, run!"

"A kiss will cost you more than you might think, sailor.."

If I do end up playing this character instead of Claes, I'm not sure whether I'd make her rogue with a little healing, or healer with a little rogue.. Which way it goes greatly changes her background and would probably be the mainly rogue since I'm only a good healer in emergency situations or when it's a really tough dungeon to heal for. If she's mainly a rogue, she has a small history in espionage and a mother and father she left behind to get out of it when her employer's wishes got a bit too dark for her tastes. She's a bookworm in the end.

Re: Art of Momma

I really like the first one the most.

I found some old pictures I did, maybe I'll hook up my scanner and share a couple of them  I can't draw men though. All women or girls....

Yeap.

Re: Art of Momma

It seemed easier at first to draw girls until I discovered males are blocks. Sorry guys, you might not be block-heads, but you are block bodies.

Re: Art of Momma

I like the curves! It's fun to draw them, so I always drew girls.

Well almost always, but I have a habit of throwing my stuff out so there's no evidence.

Re: Art of Momma

I'm sure you did great, though! The problem with artists is that we're normally our own worste critics. What I do is suck it up and force you all to see my poor creations anyhow. Mainly because no one says "That looks awful, throw it out!" and hurts someone's ego. It's always nice things like "Aww, I wish I could draw that good!"

I also love Qitarah. She was nicely designed and had a rather in depth personality heavily diced with asian culture. I'd probably try to get Vae to be like Qita curve wise, but the pose made it hard to do something like that.

It's amazing to me how a simple line drawing can kick full blown 3D to the curb. There's TONS of personality and flavor in that sketch. It looks to me like Vae knows everyone and everything going on in her town and is realiable with perkiness to boot.

Definately keep the glasses as well.

Thanks! I got the right personality showing through after all.. She's supposed to look rather like she's harmless, but informative. The more I look at her freckled face, the more her story comes out. She doesn't have dead parents or anything like that like most people. She's interesting without being terribly dramatic, and I like being able to look at my character and not worry about them failing a Sue test.

Re: Art of Momma

Actually.. Hero's Journey seems to actually make it reasonable that most adventurer's parents might be dead...

Darn! I'm an anti-Sue!

Re: Art of Momma

Very nice! The character does look like she has alot of personality and would make for some interesting background and situations in your comic.

I'm working on a graphic novel/comic myself, there work but alot of fun and rewarding to do. Best of luck with your comic!!

Re: Art of Momma

Oh! Vae Claywright is an idea for a Hero's Journey character mainly, but I was planning on also adjusting her to be a GM in my comic. Just need more confidence in myself and then I'll get to drawing. Need to bring the new ones to the drawing teacher!

Re: Art of Momma

Another new character in the mix! Names so far that have gone through my mind..

Keies(Key-ehs)
Gyre(Guy-er)
Gyres(Guy-rehs)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Yuffie-Teddy/Song.jpg

She is a person who has a happy personality that inspires serenity in those around her, but also believes everyone should be given a chance before assuming they might have bad intentions. Then a second chance if they failed the first one..and a third...and an eleventh... Not really the sort of girl you leave alone in the city.

Changes will be made, especially to her hair and accessories as time passes. Her outfit is currently planned to consist of a white slip-like dress, or summer dress, with white thigh-high stockings and plain moccasins.

Also.. I'm trying to get more and more towards realism. I think I might have gotten to a point right between cartoon and realism that I'm comfortable with with this one.

Re: Art of Momma

OK. The drawing, while nice, seems rather generic, and the described personality... Well, it's not a type I've ever understood, and it's not a type I've ever seen done all that well. These things are really more personal preference, though, so whatever. :(2 I can't find that fortune cookie! This is going to haunt me! Forever and ever and ever and ever! And ever, too...
