Bradley Cooper has revealed that he is working on an adaptation of the popular science fiction series Hyperion.

Cooper, star of new comedy The Hangover Part II, has said that he recently submitted a spec script to Graham King Productions.

"This is an example of trying to get things started," Cooper revealed during an appearance on Charlie Rose this week. "My friend and I went to [producer] Graham King, who owns the rights to Hyperion, and we wrote a treatment on spec.

"I said, 'I know this is a very audacious endeavour, but can you just read this spec we wrote? I think we have a way in to tell the story'. So now we're negotiating to write the script for it."

Cooper also said that although he is keen to move into directing, it's unlikely that he will do so with Hyperion, simply due to the scale of the project.

"Ideally I'd love to direct," he added. 'But there's no way. I shouldn't say that. You never know."

The 1989 novel from author Dan Simmons follows a planet called Hyperion that houses powerful artifacts known as Time Tombs, which are guarded by a mysterious antihero called Shrike.

The Day The Earth Stood Still director Scott Derrickson was previously linked to a film adaptation of the series for Warner Bros, but the movie was never greenlit.

I think this is the "Hyperion" that the article is talking about:
