Politics California Recall

Why wouldn't we start a rebellion, like back in the good old days, capture him, hear his lamenting cries, and behead him? See I like ancient civilizations, just do away with the royal family and you're good.

On a serious note, good luck with your new "govenator." I want to call up my cousin just to tell her this. :D

Or we can have the covenant come in and do away with him, and have Jennifer Garner for governor. ^_^

So it's him !! Oh god what did the Californian !?! But he can't be president fortunately ! ^_^
when i first heard arnold won *shudders* (<--since i too, live in cali), the 1st thing i thought was, thankfully he cant run for president!

well, now that arnold is in office, i admit that i'm kind of curious to see how things go. but it's the kind of curious where you slow down on the freeway to try to catch a glimpse of an accident on the side of the road.

thanks, leah. :P

arnold will be in office for THREE YEARS.
EEP! 3 years? Maybe I should reconsider going out there for grad school...

I know, I can't believe he will be in office for 3 whole years!!! I am going to go insane having to see him in the Los Angeles Times like every single day! I didn't vote for him and I am sure that many voted for him because he always wins in his movies so they think that this will also transpire in real life...what a joke.

yeah ive been considering leaving

why arnold???? :wtf: dear god why arnold? if that were the case, we would have been better off with those adult movie stars or something! how's he gonna help california?? bribe people to do the work for him?

I feel bad for the few intelligent Californians' who have to put up with Ah-nuld until his term is over. California just proved that it is truely the stupidest state in the USA. CA did rank number 48 on the top 50 smartest states in the USA, so I guese it's true! lol. I can't stand Ah-nuld. He dosn't even have any qualifications, not even a college/university education! Fame as really gotten to that guys pee-brained head. Also, as a Canadian, I don't like him because he wants to stop filming American movies in Canada. That means a lot of people will lose their jobs up here. Plus, he would have never even become a start if it were not for Canadian director James Cameron who put him in the dumb Terminator movies and True Lies. I HATE HIM!
I feel for you "smart" Californians out there.

Don't hold back, SBSP! Tell us how you really feel!

Seriously, I'm glad I don't live in California. I live in Indiana. We may be hayseeds, but you won't catch us electing B-movie actors for governor.

hey now! stereotyping much?

for the record, i did not vote for arnold. i also voted no on the recall. and even though i am highly annoyed at the roughly 50% of voters who voted for arnold, i've gotta defend my state here and say that we're not all brainless twits with cell phones and valley girl/surfer dude accents.

anyway, minnesota elected a "professional" wrestler for their governor. if that's not worse, then it's just as bad. just goes to show you how celebrity-obssessed our culture is these days. sad and pathetic... sigh.

The recall was stupid. We had some discussion about in in my AP US History class, and while I believe that recalls in general are grassroots democracy in action, the case in California is ridiculous.

States require a certain amount of petitions to recall the governor, and some require that the governor must be charged with a crime. But in California, only signatures from 12% of voters from the previous election are required to enact a recall, which is nowhere near the majority of voters.

There were 135 people running for office, over half of them not qualified. All that was required to run was a $3500 fee and petitions from 100 (or 65?) people from your own party. (My friend's mom's friend tried to run for governor, but she didn't know the petitions had to be from your own party. Her $3500 were not returned.) The sad part is that many of the unqualified people were the ones who got attention. Marey Carey, a porn star who claims she's smart with her 131 IQ and 1100 something SAT score (I have about the same IQ and a 1260 on the PSATs, but it doesn't mean I'm qualified to run for governor). A porn king. A beer company owner who wanted to advertise his beer. Gary Coleman (need I say more?).

And Arnold Schwarzenegger. The media is practically responsible for putting him in office. He doesn't have any political experience, and we don't even know his plans. Even SNL made fun of him:

[paraphrasing] Arnold imitator: "I have devised a specific five-point plan that will improve California. There are five major areas for improvement. Education. I believe that the children are the future of America. Crime. I am against criminals. Environment. I want to make the environment cleaner...."

Despite Arnold's lack of specific goals, he's hit the airwaves like a storm, when McClintock, Davis, and Bustamante actually have something to say on the issues.
<_<

AliasALIAS, you made some extremely good points. We discussed this whole process in US Government class that I am taking as a GE requirement and these points were also brought up. And isn't it pathetic that 9,000+ folks actually voted for Mary Carey??

crazy spinster, you're totally right. We are not all brainless twits here in CA. Our state is very awesome in many respects. I voted no on the recall as well and there was a good percentage of people who voted no as well. Also, another big part in Arnold being elected to office was his promise to fix the extremely high car taxes or whatever they're being called.

about 60% of the people here in the Bay Area voted no on the recall, cuz this is where all the smart ppl live (j/p). i can't believe this is happening, im still waiting for someone to pop out and say, "JUST KIDDING!" and im still waiting..... (37th governor of CA= Gray Davis, 39th= ?....there is no 38th!)
