The latest on the script from Sci Fi Wire:

Million Dollar Haggis Tackles 007

Academy Award-nominated writer Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby) has been hired to do a rewrite of Casino Royale, Sony and MGM's upcoming 21st installment in the James Bond film franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Producer siblings Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have brought back Martin Campbell (GoldenEye) to direct his second Bond film. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who cut their teeth on Bond films The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day, wrote the previous draft. The search for a new Bond to replace Pierce Brosnan is under way, the trade paper reported.

The movie's script is based on the 1953 Ian Fleming novel, which is the first, darkest and most violent of the Bond books. It introduced not only Bond, but also the evil organization SMERSH, as well as model Bond villain Le Chiffre (French for "the number"). One of the book's set pieces is a baccarat duel between Bond and Le Chiffre. The book was first adapted as the 1967 spy spoof starring Peter Sellers, David Niven, Orson Welles and George Raft, although the comedy is not considered part of the Bond canon.

So... is this Pierce's last film, or is this the first film for the new James Bond? 🙏 *prays fervently for Daniel Craig* 🙏

Sage -- Why "God no"? ^_^

ETA: I thought for sure we had a "praying" smilie. 🤷 Oh well.

Cos Casino royale was total rubbish, and last time they did a re-write of an existing bond movie, that was rubbish too.

Looks like a win/win from where I'm sitting.

lol OOOH I didn't realize it was a remake of an already-existing Bond movie. My bad. Well I'm not a fan either then. :P

so they've started re making already made bond movies? good, maybe they can just re do the Timothy Dalton Bond movies....

Oh the living daylights was ok. As long as they don't EVER re-make moonraker. *yeck*

nah any Dalton bond was the pits, its just stupid that they're re making them anyway. They need to let the franchise rest for a few years and quiet down, then bring it back again. Remind people of why they liked the movies instead of constantly making sub par films.....honestly, after Goldeneye they've all been a little forgetable

Yeah hahaha.

I was actually thinking of the two chicks and the stupid dialog.

"I can read your every move!"

What, did we steal the dialog from a kids video game?

"You are no match for me! ha ha ha ha"

The new 007 film has a problem: it can't find a James Bond

TIME is running out for James Bond. Filming of the next 007 movie, Casino Royale, is scheduled to start within 12 weeks but the makers have no script, no Miss Moneypenny and nobody to play Britain’s most enduring spy, writes John Harlow.

Amy Pascal, chairman of Sony Pictures, which will be raising the £70m budget for the film, will this week convene a second 007 summit to pick a new Bond. The first, last year in a London club, ended in disarray.

Sony has told Eon, the British-based company that holds production rights to the Bond series, that it may have to postpone the film. Cinemas have already started booking it for October 19, 2006.

Many replacements for the ousted Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond in the past four movies, have been discussed, but so far all have failed to match up to either the Irish actor or the other perennial favourite, Sir Sean Connery, at one time considered as director for Casino Royale.

Rejection can cut both ways. Everyone had agreed Clive Owen, 41, should play Bond, so director Martin Campbell offered him the role. But he turned it down, telling friends he finds Bond dated. He will instead play agent 006 in a Steve Martin remake of The Pink Panther.

I think having an actor to play James Bond is a key ingredient in making a James Bond movie... ;)

DANIEL CRAIG DANIEL CRAIG DANIEL CRAIG!

You have gotten your wish  Though it seems many are unhappy with having a blonde haired, blue eye guy play James Bond.

It's official, Daniel Craig is 007

LONDON, England -- One of the worst kept secrets in the entertainment industry is no longer a secret.

Daniel Craig, a blue-eyed and blond British actor, is the new James Bond.

Sony Pictures on Friday confirmed media reports that Craig will replace Pierce Brosnan as the suave British spy of the silver screen. (Watch video of new 007)

Craig's selection -- revealed by having the actor travel down the River Thames aboard a military boat, wearing Bond's trademark suit and dark glasses -- ends months of speculation over the role of agent 007.

Later, at a news conference in London, Craig appeared to be at a loss for words about his new job.

"It's something else, I can tell you, really," he said.

Craig added that his first reaction when told by producers was to say, "I need a drink."

Producers said last year that they were seeking a replacement for Pierce Brosnan, 52, who has played the suave British spy in the last four Bond films.

Rumored to have also been in the running were British actors Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler and Ewan McGregor. Irishman Colin Farrell and Australians Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger and Eric Bana were also mentioned.

But after all the guessing, it was Craig's mother that let the cat out of the bag.

"Obviously we are thrilled to bits," his mother Carol told the Liverpool Daily Post newspaper on Thursday.

"It has come at a very good time in his career. He has worked extremely hard all his life and this would be his biggest populist role," she was quoted as saying. "It will be life-changing".

Craig, 37, appeared in the 1990s TV drama "Our Friends in the North" and in such films as "The Mother," "Enduring Love" and "Layer Cake."

He also played Paul Newman's son in "Road to Perdition," was poet Ted Hughes opposite Gwyneth Paltrow's Sylvia Plath in "Sylvia" and appeared in this year's thriller "The Jacket" with Adrien Brody.

Craig's personal life has also been a source of media attention.

He has dated model Kate Moss and has been linked to Sienna Miller, his "Layer Cake" co-star and on-off fiancee of Jude Law.

Craig will appear in the 21st Bond film, a remake of "Casino Royale," which is due to be released next year.

"Casino Royale," published in 1953, was Ian Fleming's first Bond novel. The 1967 film version was a spoof starring Peter Sellers, and it was one of the few Bond adventures not to feature any MI6 gadgets.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I heard about this yesterday officially and I couldn't be HAPPIER!!! :happydance: *squeal*
👍 :cloud9:  :groupwave: :harp: :number1: :stretcher:

I can't believe people are actually mad. lol! :sideroll: Not sure what the reasoning would be behind that... He is PERFECTION. And perfection for the role, even moreso. Now I really can't wait for this baby. :D

You have all got this wrong, it isnt a remake- that other casino royale had nothing to do with EON or the Ian Fleming novel "Casino Royale," that movie was made by independant people becuase for some reason the rights to the movie wernt brought, and yes that movie was felgercarb.
This upcoming James Bond film is a prequel, and will be accurate to the book (unlike that 1960's casino royale which had its own plot and charactors).

By the way Daniel Craig is gay. Have youse read his interview? Jeez

OOh wow. A prequel? Cool!! Glad it's not a remake.

LMAO he's not gay. People always say that about an actor when he suddenly goes from being in the background to being in the spotlight, as Daniel has done. Last known, he was dating Sienna Miller, Jude Law's ex. ^_^

ETA: Exclusive new pic from the Casino Royale press packet! :happydance: Eeeee! Sex. 🤤

Just back from seeing Casino Royale, Daniel Craig was awesome, Mads Mikkelson was great as Le Chiffre, as was Eva Green as Vesper Lynd.

It certainly ranks in my top 3 Bond films, great cast, some hot Bond ladies and it follows the Fleming novel pretty well!

Different type of 007, but thats what was needed, the 007 franchise needed a kick up the arse after the awful Die Another Day, Daniel Craig is THE man, 007 is in good hands with Danny boy, my 2nd fave bond now behind Connery!
