Castle

Castle stars Canadian actor Nathan Fillion as novelist Richard Castle and Canadian actress Stana Katic as a no-nonsence homicide detective Kate Beckett. Castle is a confirmed bachelor who lives in an apartment with his bright teenage daughter Alexis and his meddling free spirited mother Martha Rodgers.

The series begins after Castle has 'killed off' his popular protagonist in his sucessful book series, and now has a bad case of "writer's block". Castle is called in to help the NYPD solve a copy-cat murder based on one of his novels.

In charge of the case is the determined detective Kate Beckett. She doesn't tolerate fools, and her first opinion of Castle is that he is a frivolous playboy. She resents the higher-ups forcing Castle upon her and her team as a Consultant. Castle is well connected at City Hall and with the police department brass, so he persuades them that he is invaluable to them, plus he provides good public relations about the NYPD. The other members of Beckett's team Det. Javier Esposito & Det. Kevin Ryan warm up to Castle quickly because he is "one-of-the-guys" and brings them goodies.

It turns out that Beckett has become cold due to the unsolved murder of her mother. So she throws herself at solving difficult murder cases. She turns down Castle's offer to help solve her mother's murder.

Castle becomes interested in Beckett as a potential character for a new book series, uses his contacts and receives permission to continue accompanying Beckett while investigating cases. Castle decides to use Beckett as the model for the main character of his next book series, starring "Nikki Heat".

Beckett, who doesn't tell that she is an avid reader of Castle's books, is initially disapproving of having Castle shadow her on her cases, but later comes to appreciate Castle as a useful resource in solving crimes. What Becket doesn't appreciate is that Nikki Heat is a sexy reinterpretation of her, and that everyone else thinks she must be that way. Although she is offended at first, Beckett now sneaks off in private to read the sexy parts of the Nikki Heat stories.

While technically a crime drama series, Castle also features light comedy and romantic tension. The show also deals with Castle's struggle to be a good single father to a teenage girl. It is overwhelming at times, but he comes to value Beckett's insights about what a teenage girl needs from a parent. Alexis come to trust and consult with Beckett as a surrogate big sister/mother-figure.

Castle - Season 4, Episode 21 - Headhunters

Castle gets into trouble teaming up with a dangerous, risk-taking, rule-bending partner by the name of Detective Ethan Slaughter.
Guest Starring Nathan's former "Firefly" co-star Adam Baldwin.

Because Castle is pulling away from his police friends due to Kate Beckett's repeated failure to show any hint of affection for him, that causes him to go on a case with "loose cannon" Slaughter. Beckett, Esposito & Ryan grumble about Castle cooling off his relationship with them, but fortunately for Castle, they are loyal friends. They save Castle & Slaughter when the pair unwisely confront a street gang without having police back-up.

During counselling, Kate finally learns that Castle has cooled his relationship with his friends because she's waited too long to return his affection. She wonders if she still has a chance at love with him.

Later, Castle and Beckett rush to find evidence that will clear the gang leader from the frame being set up by Slaughter.

Good episode! :D
