THEY SAY
A remake of the 1981 film version of the myth of Perseus and his quest to battle both Medusa and the Kraken monster in order to save the Princess Andromeda. The original film is best remembered for Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion special effects today.

 WE SAY
Is Sam Worthington2.gif the new action hero of the 2000s? You may not know the name now, but you probably will by the end of the year. By then you would have seen this 33-year-old Australian actor in two of this year’s biggest sci-fi actioners, namely Terminator Salvation and James Cameron’s Avatar. Next year he will play Perseus in the remake of this early ‘Eighties flick, a role previously played by Harry Hamlin. (Worthington also starred in the recent Rogue, which is about a giant man-eating crocodile terrorizing tourists in the Australian outback.)
Purists may fume, but remaking Clash of the Titans isn’t such a bad idea. The original film wasn’t really that good. Not only was it on the slow and dull side, but Harryhausen’s fabled special effects weren’t really that good - even by the standards of the time. Let’s face up to it: by 1981 Harryhausen’s once revolutionary one-man-show special effects had been long eclipsed by the likes of Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark!
Director Louis Leterrier did The Incredible Hulk and Transporter 2, so expect a flashy noisy action-packed CGI heavy special effects matinee show. (Incidentally the screenplay for the remake is co-written by Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote Empire Strikes Back, The Big Chill and . . . Raiders of the Lost Ark!)
