Some shows coming up with the new TV season.....
  • Medium (NBC), 9 p.m. New drama premiere. Patricia Arquette portrays an ordinary wife and mother who discovers she can chat with the dead to solve crimes.
  • 24 (Fox), 7 p.m. Fourth season special premiere. Kiefer Sutherland returns as Jack Bauer, but much of the cast has changed. Two-hour premiere is followed by two fresh hours Jan. 10. The series runs straight through without repeats until May.
  • Carnivale (HBO), 10 p.m. Second season premiere. Twelve new episodes are set for the critically acclaimed, but confusing apocalyptic drama. Comment: Final battle between good and evil looms. Added narration waters down complexity.
  • Explorer (National Geographic Channel), 7 p.m. Returning series. New channel, new time and new host — Lisa Ling — for the revamped quality show. OK, this has nothing to do with sci-fi or fantasy but I enjoy these types of shows.
  • Battlestar Galactica (Sci Fi), 8 p.m. Drama series premiere. The fan favorite has been updated for the 21 st century. It stars Edward James Olmos and a swell cast of fresh faces.
  • Point Pleasant (Fox), 8 p.m. New sci-fi drama premiere. Elisabeth Harnois portrays a mysterious teen washed ashore in New Jersey. Then, Fox claims, "all hell breaks loose." Why? Her daddy is Satan, but she doesn’t know that.
