He's old for a baseball player and he really doesn't have anything to prove anymore in the game. I mean he contributed in breaking the curse in Boston so his legacy is set, not to mention a stellar career. Trying for one more ring and retiring is a good move, whether or not he has his MMO company.
38 studios is intriguing. I glossed over some of their articles and it seems they are taking a different approach in making the game. They plan to produce books, videos, comics? and establish an IP that will lead to a MMO. Since the MMO is the ultimate goal, I'm sure the stories and lore will fit perfectly in a MMO setting, not like say Star Wars or even LotR where they are trying to reshape the world to fit the game.
What would be really exciting is, if movies and literature based on the MMO actually progresses the game itself.
