Dancing With The Stars, Season 10

Former Champion from Season 7, actress Brooke Burke is going to be co-host this season.

SIO's Early Favourites:
1. Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls lead singer) & Derek Hough
- Big advantage being dancer: firm understanding of grace, balance, movement, etc.
- Big advantage being Featured Lead Singer of PCD: Understanding how to 'sell' their performance.
- Should have a big fan base willing to vote for her.
- Big Advantage of being teamed with Derek Hough who won Season 7.

2. Chad Ochocinco (Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver) & Cheryl Burke
- Football Wide Receivers are the most agile of their sport. Great footwork, great endurance, should be able to learn dance moves as if a variation of carrying out an offensive play.
- Big male fanbase
- Big Advantage of being teamed with Cheryl Burke who won Season 2 and Season 3.

Trailing the Leaders
3. Evan Lycacek (Gold Medal Figure Skater) + Anna Trebunskaya
- Evan said that he doesn't dance.
- Male Figure Skating has more emphasis on athleticism of movement rather than grace.
- He said that dancing requires opposite rotation than Skating. Having to unlearn his natural rotation could be confusing for a while.

4. Aiden Turner (Soap Opera Star) & Edyta Sliwinska
- I'm guessing that he's had a wide variety of acting that must have included some dance training. Previous Soap actors Kelly Monaco won Season One, and Cameron Mathison finished in 5th Place in Season 5.

Middle of the Pack
5. Pamela Anderson (Actress) & Damian Whitewood
6. Shannen Doherty (Actress) & Mark Ballas
7. Erin Andrews (Sports Reporter) & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
8. Kate Gosselin (Reality Star) & Tony Dovolani
9. Jake Pavelka (The Bachelor) & Chelsie Hightower

Long Shot
10. Niecy Nash (Actress/Celebrity Gossip Reporter) & Louis Van Amstel

Lambs to the Slaughter
11. Buzz Aldrin (80 year old former astronaut) & Ashley Costa
- Walking on the moon isn't the same as being able to perform "The Moonwalk".
wink.gif

- Someone his age must have difficulty of movement and limited endurance.

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 1 - Dance Night, March 22nd.

Early Favourite:
1. Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls lead singer) & Derek Hough. Score: 9-7-9=25
2. Evan Lycacek (Gold Medal Figure Skater) + Anna Trebunskaya. Score: 8-7-8=23

Surprisingly Great
Pamela Anderson (Actress) & Damian Whitewood: 7+6+8=21
Erin Andrews (Sports Reporter) & Maksim Chmerkovskiy: 21
Jake Pavelka (The Bachelor) & Chelsie Hightower: 20

Lambs to the Slaughter
11. Buzz Aldrin (80 year old former astronaut) & Ashley Costa. 5-4-5=14

Waiting to be Slaughtered
Aiden Turner (Soap Opera Star) & Edyta Sliwinska: 15
Kate Gosselin (Reality Star) & Tony Dovolani: 16

Middle of the Pack
Shannen Doherty (Actress) & Mark Ballas: 18
Chad Ochocinco (Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver) & Cheryl Burke: 18
Niecy Nash (Actress/Celebrity Gossip Reporter) & Louis Van Amstel:18

- the judges were harsh on Chad, but he has potential. No potential with Kate & Shannen.

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Hello, Dolly

Nicole Scherzinger waltzes her way to first place
Posted by Kate Mulcrone
Monday, March 22, 2010 8:14 PM

It seems like only yesterday that Donny Osmond waltzed offstage with the famous mirror ball trophy. Well, time flies. A hop, skip and an Olympics later we're ready for a new season. This week our would-be champions danced the cha-cha-cha and the Viennese waltz. High honors fell to the jocks, Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek and ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews. The best performance of the night, however, was a waltz by former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger. Talk about a bad girl makeover! She and Derek were all sweetness and light out on the floor.

Of course, not everyone dazzled. Niecy Nash was a little too goofy for her own good and astronaut Buzz Aldrin should stick with the moonwalk rather than trying to cha-cha-cha. Soap star Aiden Turner got no love from the judges for his "sexy" dance and Kate Gosselin waltzed her way down the scoreboard.
Here's the dirt on all the stars' performances:

Chad Ochocinco
Okay, there's a football player on pretty much every season of the show ... but has there ever been one like Chad Ochocinco? The NFL's ultimate showboat opened the season with an absolutely amazing cha-cha-cha. His footwork isn't perfect yet, but he more than makes up with it in attitude. The judges had some harsh words for Chad and Cheryl, but they couldn't hide their smiles. You could bet on a worse champion.
Score: 18/30

Shannen Doherty
The wicked witch of "90210" and "Charmed" turned in a surprisingly sweet Viennese waltz. She had a little trouble with her footwork and one of her holds and lost the thread of the routine toward the end. Still, the judges commended her for soldiering through such a challenging routine in the first week of competition. The show clearly means a lot to Shannen -- her dad's a big fan -- and she's obviously willing to work hard. Don't count her out just yet.
Score: 18/30

Erin Andrews
Rumors are already flying that this lovely sportscaster is dating her partner Maks. If they're not actually dating ... they probably will be soon. There was definitely a lot of sizzle during their cha-cha. Erin has great rhythm and her footwork was quite good, but her arm movements are just a little bit out of sync and she holds her shoulders too stiffly. There's plenty of room for improvement, but she's off to a great start.
Score: 21/30

Jake Pavelka
Okay, Jake was on "The Bachelor," we get it. Between the rose he carried out onstage, Chelsie's dress (pink) and the music ("A Kiss From a Rose") they waltzed to there's no way anyone could be left wondering about his pedigree. Poor guy. Luckily, his dancing was not half bad. All of the raw material is there: rhythm, footwork and, maybe most important, fluidity. Jake does need to stand up straighter, though. His posture was pretty bad. Chelsie Hightower has a history of making passable dancers out of the unlikeliest guys, so I'll be interested to see what Jake does next week.
Score: 20/30

Niecy Nash
We saw Niecy eating a cheeseburger just before we cut to commercial before her routine. Antics! (Just for the record, I would totally be willing to cha-cha if I got to eat a cheeseburger first.) As good as it is to laugh, the show is about dancing. Niecy put in a valiant effort on the dance floor, but her rhythm was way, way off. Len complained about the oversimplicity of Niecy and Louis's routine, and for once I agree with the old grouch. Let's hope Niecy has a very active fan club. She dedicated her performance to "big girls everywhere," so maybe that will help.
Score: 18/30

Evan Lysacek
Our poor judges! They really had to struggle to find anything bad to say about Olympic figure skating champion Evan's magical waltz. Carrie Ann told him to point his toes. Len rather enigmatically advised Evan and Anna to "get chemistry between the two of you," and Bruno agreed. While it may take time for Evan to adjust to sharing the stage with his partner Anna, he's clearly got all the right moves.
Score: 23/30

Buzz Aldrin
Well, the good thing about walking on the moon is that it doesn't really matter if you mess things up after that. Things like ... the cha-cha-cha. Although Buzz certainly had his moments out on the floor there were other moments when he just kind of stood there. It wasn't pretty to watch. It's hard to imagine Buzz will take another turn on the floor.
Score: 14/30

Nicole Scherzinger
Nicole's waltz was, in a word, transcendent. I really don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful routine in the first week of competition, and Carrie Ann said pretty much the same thing. (And she obviously knows more than I do.) Len freaked out about Derek's choreography like he does every season, but he somehow also decide to yell -- yes, yell! -- at Nicole for some supposedly sloppy footwork and a lack of musicality. Whatever, Len. This girl's got massive star power.
Score: 25/30

Aiden Turner
Soap star Aiden seems to be going for the whole sexy Gilles Marini angle. Unfortunately, it didn't work for him. His cha-cha-cha felt gimmicky rather than fresh. His footwork was passable, but his sense of rhythm is pretty basic. Len said the routine was "full of everything I don't like." (The million dollar question, of course, is what on Earth does Len like?) Aiden was not great, but he probably deserved a little more love from the judges. Will the audience step in and save him?
Score: 15/30

Kate Gosselin
Reality TV's most stressed out mom looked ... pretty stressed out on the floor tonight. There's dancing a waltz, and then there's letting a waltz dance you. Kate moved gracefully, but her footwork was awfully basic. The routine itself was pretty, but certainly not as technically accomplished as Nicole or Evan's Viennese waltzes. It's hard to see Kate in this competition for the long haul.
Score: 16/30

Pamela Anderson
What can I say, she plays to her strength. Pamela's routine was fast, loose and almost -- but not quite -- out of control. Her footwork was pretty good and her rhythm was great. More to the point, though, her stage presence was pretty powerful. Both Bruno and Carrie Ann were pretty much besides themselves, giggling through critique. Len, on the other hand, is not distracted by célébrité (or sex tapes) and ragged on Pamela's technique. She probably won't win it all, but she'll have fun trying.
Score: 21/30

Who won over the judges: Nicole and Evan

Who won over the audience: Erin and Nicole

Who needs to step it up: Buzz and Aiden

Who's going Home?

If the home viewers are kind, they'll spare Buzz Aldren for being an elder astronaut hero this week.

That means Aiden Turner (Soap Opera Star) and Kate Gosselin (Reality Star) are the ones in peril.

Aiden Turner (Soap Opera Star) & Edyta Sliwinska: 15
Kate Gosselin (Reality Star) & Tony Dovolani: 16

- I'm thinking Aiden isn't as well known as Kate, so she has the larger fan base.
- On the other hand, many people didn't like 3-Ring circus enviroment that surrounded the dissolution of her marriage. There was also complaints that her marriage failed because she was a fame wh@re.

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 2 - Dance Night, March 29th.

The 80 year old former astronaut tried his best, but once again finished with the lowest score: 4+4+4=12.

Kate Gosselin got her partner Tony angry enough to quit on her during this week's training. He got angry with her resisting his instructions and her for insisting that he doesn't listen to her complaints. Is this how she behaved in Jon & Kate Plus 8? Tony came back after a while to apologise - The producers probably told him to cool off.

Tonight's Results
1. Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls lead singer) & Derek Hough: 10-8-10: 28
2. Evan Lycacek (Gold Medal Figure Skater) + Anna Trebunskaya. Score: 8-8-8=24

Surprisingly Great
3. Erin Andrews (Sports Reporter) & Maksim Chmerkovskiy: 8+7+8=23
4. Pamela Anderson (Actress) & Damian Whitewood: 7+7+8=22

Waiting to be Slaughtered
Buzz Aldrin (80 year old former astronaut) & Ashley Costa. 4-4-4=12
Kate Gosselin (Reality Star) & Tony Dovolani: 5+5+5=15
Aiden Turner (Soap Opera Star) & Edyta Sliwinska: 6+5+5=16

The judges have lost faith in Buzz. But I feel that the home voters will remove Kate Gosselin for being difficult and annoying.

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: All That Jive
- Nicole Scherzinger and Evan Lysacek heat up the floor
Posted by Kate Mulcrone
Monday, March 29, 2010 8:51 PM

It's getting serious on "Dancing With the Stars." Even though we're still in the first round of competition, the gap between the haves and the have-nots is widening. We saw fantastic jives from former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Olympic figure skater Evan Lysacek and a frankly awful foxtrot from astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Kate Gosselin turned in a stumbling and frenzied jive, but the big surprise of the night was Chad Ochocinco's fall from grace. Vegas oddsmakers placed him third in the pack after last week's premiere, but he scored only a point higher than Buzz for his robotic foxtrot.

Here's a bit of trivia for you die-hards: During rehearsal, Nicole and Derek griped a little about the song that the producers assigned them for the jive. Turns out that neither the professional dancers nor the celebrities get to pick the songs they dance to! Ten seasons and we're still learning about the rules!

Want to know how your favorite star did? Read on!

Shannen Doherty
The jive is one of the hardest dances in the competition, because it's fast, fast, fast but technically quite complicated. For the second week in a row the former "90210" star and her partner Maks opted for a difficult routine rather than keeping it simple. Shannen did pretty well: her energy was good and she almost kept up with Maks. Carrie Ann pointed out that she was a little fast on some of her steps, and she also made a few missteps in the middle of the routine.
Jive: 20/30
Waltz: 18/30
Total: 38/60

Aiden Turner
The foxtrot is supposed to be smooth and elegant, and soap star Aiden pulled that off. His rhythm was good, as well as his footwork ... but the routine was awfully Mickey Mouse. Like last week's cha-cha, it was lacking in spirit. Bottom line, Aiden's going to have to try a lot harder if he wants to stay out on the dance floor.
Foxtrot: 19/30
Cha-cha: 15/30
Total: 34/60

Evan Lysacek
Wow! Once again, Evan turned in a stellar performance. His jive looked effortless, and yet the routine was full of tricky choreography. (We saw not one but two jump-splits!) Obviously Evan has an advantage coming into this competition from the not totally dissimilar arena of figure skating, but that still doesn't explain his stage presence or the way he just seems to belong on the dance floor. It's like there's a magnetic field between him and the mirror ball trophy they must keep backstage somewhere.
Jive: 24/30
Waltz: 23/30
Total: 47/60

Niecy Nash
Last week's cha-cha was pretty nuh-uh, and I was ready to count our resident comedian out of this competition. Well, I'm happy to be wrong. Her foxtrot was restrained and elegant and yet not at all lacking in personality. Niecy's carriage was fantastic and her rhythm and footwork were right on. She gets a lot of mileage out of her quips and general goofballery, and that must be rubbing off on her partner Louis ... who got down on one knee and offered her a mock engagement ring at the end of their routine. Let's hope these antics will pay off where votes are concerned -- even though Niecy's foxtrot was a vast improvement over last week's cha-cha she's still pretty far down on the leaderboard.
Foxtrot: 21/30
Cha-cha: 18/30
Total: 39/60

Jake Pavelka
The "Bachelor" star and his partner Chelsie really butted heads over the choreography of this routine. She wants to push him to be a better dancer, and he wants to do the white man's overbite. This wasn't a great dance, but it wasn't bad. Jake's footwork was pretty good, though he did spend a lot of time staring at his feet, and he did a good job following Chelsie's lead without being totally dominated by her. Chelsie has an impressive track record of coaching fish out of water partners up to the middle of the leaderboard. Remember what she did with Ty Murray? So I'd hate to see her and Jake get knocked out this early.
Jive: 20/30
Waltz: 20/30
Total: 40/60

Buzz Aldrin
What can I say about Buzz's foxtrot? I ... liked his bowtie. Bottom line, the former astronaut cannot dance at all, not even a little bit. Once again the judges were at a loss. Carrie Ann praised his emotion, Len mumbled something about inspiration and Bruno made a bunch of weird jokes about walking on the moon and then said, "It was nice to have you." That got him booed. Well, with a total score of 26 it would take an entire telethon's worth of votes to keep Buzz around.
Foxtrot: 12/30
Cha-cha: 14/30
Total: 26/60

Nicole Scherzinger
This girl can dance! Nicole's jive was absolutely electric. The routine was so difficult in could have fairly been called punishing, but Nicole totally owned it. Honestly, watching her on the floor it was hard to tell who was the teacher and who was the student. As usual, Len freaked out about Derek's choreography. These two have been locked in a never-ending battle of wills for pretty much the entire run of "Dancing With the Stars." Luckily our saner judges saw the light and awarded Nicole perfect 10s.
Jive: 28/30
Waltz: 25/30
Total: 53/60

Erin Andrews
It was a little jarring to see tomboy Erin dressed up like a pretty pretty princess, but she turned in a fantastic foxtrot. She started off with a gutsy solo and followed through with a poise, elegant and emotion. Erin still has a slight stiffness to her carriage, but other than that she's got the whole ballroom dancing thing down. I can’t wait to see what she does next week.
Foxtrot: 23/30
Cha-cha: 21/30
Total: 44/60

Pamela Anderson
The notorious P.A.M. turned in another impressive performance. Her Marilyn Monroe-inspired foxtrot was polished and yet playful -- as well as quite ladylike. Her footwork was good, though Len called her out on her posture. Damian and Pam have nice chemistry on the floor, and that should help them throughout the competition. At the same time, the choreography of both this week's foxtrot and last week’s cha-cha was pretty basic. Pam should take her cue from Shannen Doherty and push herself a little bit harder if she really wants to win this thing.
Foxtrot: 22/30
Cha-cha: 21/30
Total: 43/60

Chad Ochocinco
After a promising cha-cha last week, Chad turned in a lackluster foxtrot. His footwork wasn’t terrible but his movements were just a little bit too slow careful, which made him seem a little bit like Frankenstein out on the floor. The judges came down pretty hard on Chad and Cheryl in critique and followed that up with a real paddling. A sixteen hurts.
Foxtrot: 16/30
Cha-cha: 18/30
Total: 34/60

Kate Gosselin
Tony and Kate nearly came to blows in rehearsals for this week's jive. In fact, Tony walked out on her at one point. (I'm not going to make any obvious divorce jokes here, thank you very much.) The tension was palpable in rehearsal and it was even more palpable out on the floor. Kate simply couldn't keep up with Tony. And Tony didn't seem like he cared much. Her footwork was bad, her rhythm was bad and her stage presence was nil. The judges had nothing nice to say, and Bruno's Stepford Wife comment was a new low even for him. Let's hope Kate has a big fan base.
Jive: 15/30
Waltz: 16/30
Total: 31/60

Who won over the judges: Nicole and Evan

Who won over the audience: Evan and Pamela

Who needs to step it up: Buzz and Kate

Dancing With The Stars - Week Two - Results Night, March 30th

The home voters spared Buzz Aldren as I expected.
Foxtrot: 12/30
Cha-cha: 14/30
Total: 26/60
Bottom Score

What I didn't expect was the home viewers picking to spare the weaker Celebrities would endanger the better ones.

First of Two Celebrities In Peril
Shocking to see Pamela Anderson was picked as one of the two couples to eliminate.
Foxtrot: 22/30
Cha-cha: 21/30
Total: 43/60
4th Place

I suspected Football Player Chad Ochocinco would have fan support to protect him despite his 34 points which tied him for 3rd from the Bottom with Aiden. I suspected Soap star Aiden Turner would have enough fan support to protect him, too.

Second of Two Celebrities In Peril
At the end, Two couples were left to be chosen for the bottom,
Kate Gosselin
Jive: 15/30
Waltz: 16/30
Total: 31/60
2nd from the Bottom - poor dancer & poor personality spells trouble.

Shannen Doherty
Jive: 20/30
Waltz: 18/30
Total: 38/60
6th Place - a better than average dancer, Shannen was hated by some during her Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed days for her reputation of being difficult. Not much of a fanbase of support to count on.

Shocking to see that Kate Gosselin got spared. She had a sour expression until she got spared.

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: 9021-Uh-Oh
- Shannen Doherty and Mark Ballas are first to go
Posted by Kate Mulcrone
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 7:30 PM

Talk about an upset! Shannen Doherty will be joining her ex-husband Ashley Hamilton in the "Dancing With the Stars" notorious Losers Club. Her technically challenging jive and difficult waltz placed her firmly in the middle of the leaderboard at the close of Monday's show, but we all know that anything can happen at the polls.

It's hard to see someone who worked her tail feather off during rehearsals sent away so soon, especially since Shannen was dancing in her dad's honor. Shannen improved a lot between the first and second week of competition, and I really would have liked to see what she could do given more time. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

We've still got ten celebrities ready to dance next week away. Here's who's left in the game, in the order that Tom and Brooke called their names:

Buzz Aldrin
I'm not sure whether Buzz is getting votes out of sympathy, patriotism or solidarity, but he's definitely getting them. Both his foxtot and his cha-cha were downright awful, but he'll be back again next week.

Aiden Turner
Never underestimate the fans of "All My Children." Although he's not much of a dancer -- he turned in a bumpy cha-cha last week and a lackluster foxtrot on Monday night -- Aiden stays in the picture.

Niecy Nash
She may not be topping the leaderboard, but I'll be glad to see Niecy back for another round of competition. The resident comedian has proven that she's up for more than just gags. This week's sweeping, elegant foxtrot was a vast improvement over last week's cha-cha.

Evan Lysacek
Between his tricky but catchy jive and his commanding, elegant waltz, the Olympic figure skater has been a real contender so far. Will he knock Nicole off her pedestal next week?

Jake Pavelka
Our "Bachelor" star could be a diamond in the rough, especially with determined coach Chelsie Hightower as his partner. Jake's jive was a definite improvement over last week's waltz, but he still has a long way to go as a dancer.

Nicole Scherzinger
The former Pussycat Doll and her partner turned in an absolutely electric jive this week -- and it was just as good during tonight's encore. Nicole's waltz was as beautiful and elegant as her jive was high-stepping and energetic. She can do it all!

Erin Andrews
Her spare and elegant foxtrot was a revelation to both the audience and the judges. The ESPN sportscaster also showed her saucier side in last week's cha-cha, proving she can do spice as well as sugar. Expect great things.

Chad Ochocinco
Vegas oddsmakers had our football star third in line for the mirror ball trophy after his promising debut waltz, but this week's foxtrot fell flat. Will Chad pull it together next week? He's certainly got a competitive spirit, so I say yes.

Kate Gosselin
It's been a bumpy road for the reality TV star. Between her onstage jitters and her backstage battles with partner Tony it's been more about the drama than the dancing. Of course, the dancing hasn't been great. Kate's definitely going to have to tone down the attitude and practice her steps if she wants to stay in the game.

Pamela Anderson
The "Baywatch" beauty turned in an impressive Marilyn Monroe-inspired foxtrot last night and a daring cha-cha last week, so it was a shock to see her and Damian land in the bottom two. So what's the deal? She's gorgeous, she's got moves ... and apparently America hates her.

Who won the week: Nicole and Evan

Who needs to step it up: Buzz and Aiden (and Kate!)

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 3 - Dance Night, Apr 5th.

Evan Lysacek tops Nicole Scherzinger to be tonight's top celebrity.
Buzz Aldrin once again is the lowest, closely followed by Kate Gosselin.

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: All That Glitters
- Evan Lysacek tops the leaderboard
Posted by Kate Mulcrone
Monday, April 5, 2010 7:38 PM

The second week of competition saw our celebrities take on the waltz, the paso doble and the quickstep. They were also asked to tell a story with their routines, which worked out better for some of the dancers than others. All told, it was a low-scoring night. Evan topped the leaderboard with a 26 for his 1920's-style quickstep and Nicole and Erin tied for second with 23's. Buzz Aldrin turned in another lackluster performance -- but will this matter to his many fans? Kate Gosselin gave what will probably be the most talked-about performance of the week, a stiff paso doble meant to indict the paparazzi who make her miserable on a daily basis. Unfortunately, the message got a bit garbled in translation.

Here's the rundown of this week's routines and the judges' scores:

Evan Lysacek
This quirky flapper-tastic quickstep didn't have much of a story -- um, the girl is late and the guy is a bit annoyed about it -- but it more than made up for it in style. Evan and Anna were really in sync and looked like they were having a great time out on the floor. Two of the judges mentioned that Evan's footwork was a little off. It couldn't have been too far off, because his scores were fantastic.
Score: 26/30

Buzz Aldrin
I would love to tell you that Buzz's waltz was an improvement over last week's foxtrot, but it wasn't. He alternately stood still and shuffled around with Ashly in a basic box step. At least the story angle worked: Buzz played a soldier returning from war to be reunited with his daughter. Now, I understand why you all keep voting for self-styled "patriotic geezer" Buzz, but votes do not a dancer make.
Score: 13/30

Jake Pavelka
His Indiana Jones meets Cleopatra quickstep was a real crowd pleaser. Jake's execution might have left a little bit to be desired, but for the first time in this competition he seemed to be enjoying himself out on the floor. Len did warn him about his "soft knees," but also praised the routine's entertainment value. Dude, that's probably the best you'll ever get from cranky old Len.
Score: 21/30

Niecy Nash
Forbidden love was the theme of this elegant, emotional waltz, and Niecy was moved to tears. Unfortunately, we found out the theme because Niecy and Louis discussed it in rehearsal footage, not because it was crystal clear out on the floor. Niecy was working hard tonight, but the choreography may have been a little bit too much for her. There was a point where she faltered trying to keep both feet on the floor during a hold. (As we know, lifts are verboten!)
Score: 21/30

Chad Ochocinco
After last week's disastrous foxtrot, Chad's bullfighting-themed paso doble was a breath of fresh air. He was focused, fully present and his footwork and rhythm were both downright fantastic. Chad and Cheryl had great chemistry out on the floor. The judges warned Chad that his posture needs work. I agree -- though it must be rough being a whole head taller than your partner.
Score: 20/30

Pamela Anderson
The "Baywatch" beauty was in the bottom two last week and her angry paso doble probably won't help her stock. From a technical perspective, the dance was good. The story -- anti-bullfighting gypsy confronts a bullfighter -- was a bit muddled and the choreography was scattered. The judges praised Pam's dancing but didn't seem to love the routine as a whole. Let's hope that Pam's fans will make an effort for her this time around.
Score: 21/30

Aiden Turner
Our soap star showed his chops with a jaunty quickstep. Aiden's footwork and frame were much better than in previous routines, plus he actually smiled a little bit. The story element -- a painter's dream girl comes to life -- was cool, but clashed a bit with the music. This routine was Aiden's best effort to date in this competition, but it still didn't thrill the judges.
Score: 20/30

Erin Andrews
Her silky smooth, jaw-dropping waltz took the whole "trust your partner" thing to a new level -- Erin spent most of the routine wearing a blindfold. The audience went crazy ... and so did Len. Crazy with rage. He said the routine was too long and had "the most boring start" he had ever seen. Carrie Ann and Bruno were a little more tempered in their criticisms -- and with their scoring paddles.
Score: 23/30

Kate Gosselin
The paso doble is all about aggression, and we know Kate's got that in spades. (In fact, we saw her go crazy on a punching bag during rehearsal.) Unfortunately, she just wasn't able to channel her rage into her and Tony's anti-paparazzi routine. Between Kate's stiff posture and her off-rhythm footwork the whole effect was more "Thriller" zombie than thrilling.
Score: 15/30

Nicole Scherzinger
Trouble in paradise! Nicole and Derek danced a witty, energetic vaudeville-inspired quickstep that broke all the rules. It was definitely the most fun dance of the evening, but the judges are there to keep this whole thing honest. There was a lift in the middle as well as a (deliberately?) broken hold. These infractions made Len even angrier than he was after Erin and Maks's waltz, and that's saying something. Let's hope Nicole will color inside the lines next week.
Score: 23/30

Who won the judges: Evan, Erin and Nicole

Who won the audience: Erin and Nicole

Who needs to step it up: Buzz and Kate

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 3 - Results Night, Apr 6th.

Fans must have learned their lesson from not voting to protect Pamela Anderson & Damian Whitewood last week. She wasn't in peril this time.

The three celebrities left at the end: Jake, Buzz and Kate. One of them will get the boot

Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani: SAFE.

AUGH! I want her gone!

Jake Pavelka & Chelsie Hightower: BOTTOM TWO.
He doesn't deserve to be in the Bottom Two.

Buzz Aldrin & Ashly Costa: BOTTOM TWO.

Will the public save the heroic ex-astonaut? Or will Bachelor Jake be saved?

Going Home: Buzz Aldrin

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Down to Earth

Buzz Aldrin says farewell
Posted by MSN TV on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 7:11 PM

Buzz Aldrin wasn't one of the better dancers this show has seen, but audience votes saw him safely through the first elimination. Lightning doesn't usually strike twice however. Although Buzz brought a certain noble bearing to this week's waltz he just couldn't compete with his fellow contestants' moves. The former astronaut will be missed!Kate Gosselin, who scored almost as poorly as Buzz this week, didn't end up in the bottom two. That dubious honor went to "Bachelor" star Jake Pavelka, who seems like he's just getting warmed up. This season has certainly been full of surprises.

Here are the remaining contenders in the order their names were called:

Aiden Turner
Our soap star gets my vote for most improved this week. The quickstep is one of the toughest dances in the competition and he pulled it off with aplomb. His footwork and frame were much better than in previous routines, plus he actually smiled a little bit. I'm not counting Aiden out just yet.

Erin Andrews
She spent most of her waltz wearing a blindfold -- talk about trust! The audience went crazy for the routine, but Len's low score meant that Erin tied with Nicole for second place. I'm not too worried about Erin, though. She works hard and really takes the judges' criticisms to heart. The sky's the limit for our ultra-competitive sportscaster!

Niecy Nash
Her moving waltz impressed the audience and judges alike this week. It was interesting to see Niecy's serious side: no jokes, no props, just moves. The comedian really seems to be finding her way in this competition.

Nicole Scherzinger
Rules are made to be broken ... except on "Dancing With the Stars." Nicole danced a witty, energetic vaudeville-inspired quickstep that included both a broken hold and a lift. This may not have been her week, but I'm not worried: Nicole has what it takes to win this thing.

Evan Lysacek
His 1920's-style quickstep catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard this week. The judges liked it so much they chose the routine for the encore. Evan started out strong in this competition and is only getting better. That mirror ball trophy might just have his name on it.

Chad Ochocinco
His bullfighting-themed paso doble was certainly more successful than last week's foxtrot, but Chad still has a ways to go. The judges have commented repeatedly on his posture and frame, so let's hope he can take their coaching to heart.

Pamela Anderson
Her anti-bullfighting paso doble probably won't find its way into a PETA ad, but it wasn't a bad routine. The judges had nice things to say, and Pam must have gotten more votes this week. Let's hope she can keep it up.

Kate Gosselin
Emotional intensity usually seems to pay off on the show, but not in Kate's case. Her angry paso doble was stiff, off-rhythm and just generally bad. She looks so uncomfortable out on the dance floor that she's painful to watch.

Jake Pavelka
The "Bachelor" star turned in a campy and surprisingly energetic quickstep. For the first time he even looked like he was having fun out on the floor ... which is ironic, considering that he and Chelsie landed in the bottom two. Let's hope Jake's fans will turn out for him next week.

Who won the week: Evan, Erin and Nicole

Who needs to step it up: Kate and Aiden

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 4 - Dance Night, Apr 12th.

- Evan Lysacek tops Nicole Scherzinger to be tonight's top celebrity for the second week in a row.
- Pamela Anderson performs a surprisingly elegant & sophisticated Rhumba to capture third place.
- Though the judges say that she's improved Kate Gosselin has the lowest score.

'Dancing with the Stars' Recap: It Takes Two Scores to Tango
Monday, April 12, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

Tonight on Dancing with the Stars: the nine couples take on the sexy, steamy, oh-so-dreamy dances of looooove, tango and rumba. And style always counts, but tonight it's literal: each couple will get separate scores for footwork and flair. It's the "DOUBLE SCORE SHOWDOWN"!

Wondering who's dancing what? We'll tell you!

While we wait for the real action to start, allow me to point you to your DWTS required reading for the week: Maksim Chmerkovskiy's blog over at TV Guide is extra long, extra juicy and extra angry (justifiably, I'd say) about one journalist's claim that Erin Andrews is acting like a "bimbo" by going on this "fluff" TV show we all adore. Go get 'em, Maks! And you should go read his thoughts. Reason #3,490,123 to love Maks: He doesn't hold back. (Reason #1: Look at him!)

So, my questions of the evening to get the comments ball a-rollin':
- Will Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya hold on to the top of the leader board?
- How will Kate Gosselin perform--or should I say cope?--with the tango?
- Will Pam's rumba be too scandalous for primetime? (I, for one, am hoping so.)

We'll find it all out, and more, because here come the Week 4 performances of Dancing with the Stars season 10 ... Liiiiiive!

It's "passion night," says Brooke Burke. And it looks like passion translates into skin, in terms of costumes. Edyta and Pam are skimpy and slinky tonight: watch out for wardrobe malfunctions ...

First, the judges sit around a dimly lit table for a mafia-don-esque discussion of the nine stars and their weak points, and what they're looking for in tonight's tangos and rumbas. Each dance also has required elements that the judges will watch for. With the tango, they want to see: Viennese Cross, Outside Swivel and Contra Check.

And, speaking of tango, up first ...

Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Dancing: Tango
Song: "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)"

Judges Say: "The start was brilliant. This was a full-on tango. You came out and really worked hard. Get onto your heels." - Len
"You started it very, very well. Flamboyant, aggressive like a murderess. Then you went wrong." - Bruno
"Your performance suffered because you were too focused on technique. You're a really beautiful dancer but I think the technique got the best of you." - Carrie Ann

I Say: Amazing classic 80's song, but not quite an iconic tango. After last week's blindfolded sexiness that Len criticized for not being enough waltz, Maks and Erin encountered the opposite problem: this tango, and Erin, suffered under the technical requirements, and ended up more like a series of moves than an overall artistic or emotional performance.

Scores:
Technique: 6+6+6=18
Performance: 7+7+7=21
Total: 39

Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya
Dancing: Tango
Song: "Wait a Minute"

Judges Say: "Strong, powerful, with a hint of cut(?)-like arrogance." - Bruno
"That technique was amazing and the performance, I love. What a perfect blend of technique and performance." - Carrie Ann
"You nailed the Viennese cross, and as always, great performance." - Len

I Say: Sexy, but still technically rigorous, that tango had a modern twist and more passion that the previous, and was also visibly sharper in the details. The choreography dragged just a bit in the middle, but, physically, Evan and Anna never did, and that opening with the chair? H-O-T. ("Hello, top of leader board! Nice to see you again!" - Team Evanna)

Scores:
Technique: 9+8+9=26
Performance: 9+8+9=26
Total: 52

Here's what the judges want to see in tonight's rumbas: it's the dance of love, but the couples should be careful to go sexy, not raunchy. (Lookin' at you, Pam!) And it's a slow dance, so they need to make it passionate and "regal." The moves to watch for: Opening out to the right and left, sliding doors and ... ? Oops, I missed it.

Niecy Nash & Louis van Amstel
Dancing: Rumba
Song: "Taking Chances"

Judges Say: "Beautiful arms, lovely musicality. I would have liked to see some more hips. There were no highlights going on. It was all on one level." - Len
"You looked like you were in a trance, my darling. It didn't gel." Bruno
"I felt the emotional connection you had to the dance. It's so internal, it didn't read well in the dance. In your mind you might have been dancing bigger than we saw." - Carrie Ann

I Say: Louis, who calls this a very "spiritual dance," dedicated their performance to Niecy's brother, who was murdered 17 years ago. So, naturally, they already got me teary-eyed before the dance even started. And THEN they chose one of my fave Celine Dion songs (and Glee covers!), so I was predisposed to love this routine. Unfortunately, while the emotion was there, but the technical "wow" factor wasn't. However, I don't think the dance was as bad as the judges think--well, maybe they didn't say "bad," but I certainly felt some gelling.

Scores:
Technique: 6+6+6=18
Performance: 6+6+6=18
Total: 36

Aiden Turner & Edyta Sliwinska
Dancing: Rumba
Song: "Live Like We're Dyin'"

Judges Say: "I definitely felt that you were more comfortable out there. You did a lot of movement generating from the shoulders. Generated from the wrong place." - Carrie Ann
"You acted out the dance, but to be honest there was no flow to it. It was all stop and start, no musicality. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, you've come out and done that." - Len
"The Blue Steel was good ... the problem was when you started dancing it was like stop-motion animation. It has to flow, it has to be continuous, and that did not happen." - Bruno

I Say: Aiden brought his sexy soap stud persona out to play for this rumba, and Edyta's showing some major skin. Unfortunately for them, the sexy acting didn't translate into a technically sharp rumba, and the "flow" didn't come down from Aiden's face into his hips. But it wasn't all bad: his comfort level was up, and his stiffness level was down. I may not know much, but I still thought it was entertaining!

Scores:
Technique: 5+5+5=15
Performance: 6+6+6=18
Total: 33

Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough
Dancing: Rumba
Song: "The
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"

Judges Say: "Beautiful to watch, always, but tonight you were a bit hesitant. There were a few stumbles. Give me a little bit more sex." - Bruno
"You were nervous tonight. Your ankles were quivering. You seemed a bit out of sorts. I liked the traditional lines." - Carrie Ann
"You got the balance correct between the technique and performance. It is a really tough dance. The sliding doors: your arms got over-exaggerated a bit. But you're a great dancer and a wonderful performer." - Len

I Say: As you'll recall, last week Len shook his finger at these two for ditching the rules and going for vaudeville. Well, could that have been more different? This was technical to a T, and still never lost the oomph. Lyrical, sensual and beautiful, even though Nicole seems to be suffering under the weight of high expectations: hers and the judges'. At least they're more forgiving with the scores ...

Scores:
Technical: 9+8+8=25
Performance: 8+8+9=25
Total: 50

Jake Pavelka & Chelsie Hightower
Dancing: Tango
Song: "Never Met a Girl Like You Before"

Judges Say: "You attacked the dance. The spirit of tango, giving it plenty. Because of that aggression and attack, you had a couple of incidents. The attitude was great." - Len
"You throw in a lot of energy, tonight was very, very, very messy. You lost your posture. Your footwork was questionable. It's got to be clean." - Bruno
"You're still dancing your own dance, you're not quite connected emotionally and physically. You were really into it. I liked the way it came across. Very focused." - Carrie Ann

I Say: Hmm ... I think that big ol' smile says it all. Jake went a little over the top, and his enthusiasm leaked all the way down to his feet, which tripped him up (literally, once) in their frenzy to keep up. The judges liked his attitude, but I found it more 'happy-go-lucky' than 'passionate,' which took me out of the moment ... and kind of made me laugh. Probably not the reaction they were going for.

Scores:
Technique: 6+7+6=19
Performance: 7+6+6=19
Total: 38

Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani
Dancing: Tango
Song: "For Your Entertainment"

Judges Say: "A mini-breakthrough tonight! Tough love works for you. A step in the right direction. But don't get too excited. You're actually starting to move out there." - Bruno
"You may not have artistry in your movement, but you have determination. I have so much respect for you for your performance out there." - Carrie Ann
"Tony, you've done a good job bringing Kate to do her best dance so far." - Len

I Say: Sorry, Kate. You still looked like you were walking through most of this routine. The problems (musicality, stiffness, personality) are still there, but it was still tons better than last week! So I'll stop talking now. Whatever I think, I'm sure you know what you think.

Scores:
Technique: 4+5+5=14
Performance: 6+6+6=18
Total: 32

Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke
Dancing: Rumba
Song: "Sleeping With a Broken Heart"

Judges Say: "You definitely turned on the heat, and of all the dances, this is your best dance by miles. The hip action was ... DAMN!" - Carrie Ann
"Improvement in the posture, improvement in the performance, your best dance. Well done." - Len
"Cheryl, what have you been doing this week? The hunk is SMOLDERING tonight! Those hips were alive. You were fluid. You sustained the lines. Very few men do that, and I commend you for it." - Bruno

I Say: A little rough and jerky at those points where he needed to drag and pull Cheryl around, but this rumba was more romantic than I anticipated, and Chad had as much to do with it as Cheryl did this time around. He was sensual and fluid through every limb, yet controlled. I think that ring Chad gave Cheryl is actually the end of a leash, because she whipped him into shape this week.

Scores:
Technique: 7+6+8=21
Performance: 8+7+8=23
Total: 44

Pamela Anderson & Damian Whitewood
Dancing: Rumba
Song: "I Can't Make You Love Me"

Judges Say: "It was understated, it had a sophistication. The spiral was very, very good. Well done, great dance." - Len
"Pamela Anderson can do refinement and elegance and still be drop-dead sexy. Technically, the best dance you've ever done." - Bruno
"Beautiful sophistication. I felt something profound happening. Something was happening a little strange with your arms. But other than that, well done." - Carrie Ann

I Say: Pam's task tonight was to make her movement more refined, and I think she got most of the way there. The slowness of the rumba and her sultry look made her seem a little sleepy at times, but more often it was a tender and luxurious partnership of movement. Very intimate, but not raunchy. (Well, besides those splits at the end.)

Scores:
Technique: 7+8+8=23
Performance: 8+7+9=24
Total: 47

That's it for Dancing with the Stars: Passion Night! What did you think of the couples' tangos and rumbas?

Once again, Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya hit the top of the leader board, but Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough were hot on their tail ... and I do mean hot. No one should be shocked to see these front-runners take hold again, but my award for Happiest Surprise goes to Chad Ochocinco. He earned those 8's, and I hope there are more to come. He's growing on me, on the dance floor and in those intro packages. And it looks like Cheryl's warming up to him as well ...

And how about Kate? She's at the bottom of the board, but got plenty of encouragement from the judges. Is a little improvement good enough to keep her in the running? Will one of the struggling leading men (Jake and Aiden) get the ax rather than the controversial mom of eight? Whatever your opinion, she sure makes this season more intense.

I want to know what you think, so let me know down there in the comments. Don't forget to vote for your favorites tonight, and then join me tomorrow for the complete run-down in my Week 4 Performances rankings and recap of the Elimination Show.

Dancing with the Stars week 4 results - DWTS 2010 - is Kate Gosselin safe or eliminated?
by Matt Clark
April 13, 2010 09:05 PM EDT

So who was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars April 13, 2010? Here's your Dancing with the Stars week 4 results. During the DWTS show, The Bachelor Jake Pavelka and his partner learned they were safe this week, as did Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and her partner. Pamela Anderson also breathed a sigh of relief to learn she and her dance partner were not in the bottom of the bunch. From there, we saw an interesting ballerina contemporary and hip hop dance routine. The music dance performance was given by Tiler Peck and Nuttin but Stringz (Damien and Tourie Escobar).

After break Sade performed her hit song "Sweetest Taboo" as dancers showed some smooth operator moves on the dancefloor to accompany her. Brook Burke interviewed Kate Gosselin and Tony backstage, as well as Chad Ochocino and dance partner Cheryl Burke. Kate told her partner she loved him and all he's done for her.

We learned of more safe couples. Erin Andrews and Max were announced next. Kate Gosselin, Niecy Nash and Aiden Turner were all tense on stage as they awaited the final announcement. Who would be the one eliminated this week? Time for a commercial to build the suspense.

After the final break, we came back with our 3 couples on stage nervously awaiting the final decision. Surprisingly, once again Kate Gosselin was spared from elimination, leaving the decision to be either Niecy Nash or Aiden Turner going home. The final vote was revealed, with Aiden and Edyta receiving the lowest vote total. So Aiden Turner will head home after several weeks on the dancefloor. Aiden said he gave it his all each week, and had the best time dancing with Edyta. It was also noteworthy that upon learning of the final Dancing with the Stars week 4 results, the audience all stood to give a warm round of applause to Aiden Turner for his dancing attempts.
AUGH, I so wanted Kate to go home.

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 5 - Dance Night, Apr 19th.

- Nicole Scherzinger puts on a near perfect performance to be tonight's top celebrity, overtaking Evan Lysacek who puts on a second ranked performance.
- Bachelor Jake captures third place.
- Niecy & Louis and Chad & Cheryl are tied for second lowest this week.
- Kate Gosselin has the lowest score. She just look like she's walking in time to music. As the saying goes, she's "Done like Dinner!"

'Dancing with the Stars' Movie Night Recap: Eight Legged Freaks
Monday, April 19, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

It's movie night on Dancing with the Stars, so I thought it fitting to pick a movie title as my headline, and one that reflects what we're about to see in tonight's performance show: the eight remaining stars, many of whom are quite long-legged (and love to show it off, ahem, Erin Andrews), are about to get freaky out on the dance floor with an assortment of jives, quicksteps, cha-chas, tangos, foxtrots and rumbas, all inspired by iconic films.

Can't wait? Find out who's dancing what tonight!

So before I get nasty comments: no, I am not calling any of your beloved stars "freaks," and none of them have eight legs ... although, coincidentally, Kate Gosselin has eight kids and about as many lives (when it comes to DWTS eliminations). And I think that Chad Ochocinco and Pamela Anderson have both proven that getting freaky is one of their specialties. Wink, wink.

Dancing Discussion: Weigh in Now!
As we all watch the movie-inspired dances and cast our votes, make your voice heard: which Dancing star has the most staying power this week, and who should be packing their bags?

Now, to the dancing! Grab your popcorn and get ready for Movie Night, Dancing with the Stars-style.

Niecy & Louis
Dancing: jive
Movie: La Bamba (title song)

Judges Say: "You got your personality into the dance, which was great. The jive is very sharp, and occassionally it was little soft, and there should have been more bounce in your feet." - Len
"There was so much going on on the upper decks, it was difficult to look at anything else. It has to be accurate and precise. It did lack the necessary sharpness for this stage in the competition." - Bruno
"You are the shimmy queen!" - Carrie Ann

I Say: Fun, bright and full of movement, just like Niecy's yellow, fringed, boobalicious leotard! These two were so vivacious that Louis lost his own footing a bit, but what this dance lacked in sharpness it made up for with personality. Dancing is about having fun, and Niecy just knows how to spread the joy.

Scores: 6+6+6=18

Chad & Cheryl
Dancing: quickstep
Movie: Jungle Book ("Bear Necessities")

Judges Say: "It was a little bit too wild. You went for the energy and lost the control. Your hold was terrible." - Bruno
"It was strange. It's very uneven. What was lacking the most that stood out was the body contact." - Carrie Ann
"It was bright and lively. Your posture has improved. Overall you did your best, overall it was a pretty good job." - Len

I Say: Chad has a naturally quick foot and tall carriage, but the dance got away from him just a bit in the details. Inconsistent, yes, but still enjoyable to watch.

Scores: 6+6+6=18

Erin & Maksim
Dancing: jive
Movie: Pulp Fiction ("You Never Can Tell")

Judges Say: "I liked it. You delivered the story. You seemed a little fast, ahead of Maks, anticipating everything." - Carrie Ann
"It was a tough routine, you coped with that very well. It got a little hectic, but overall you did a really good job." - Len
"Erin, you got that Uma-magic just right, mama, don't worry. I counted all the way through, this is your best timing ever. A breakthrough." - Bruno

I Say: This was a complicated jive full of story, kicks and even the splits! Erin held her own with Maks-YUM, but Carrie was right to call out her overzealous ankles, which were working overtime to keep up with this speedy routine. Just an issue of complexity, not lack of talent, I'd say--another week to practice and I think she would have had it down pat.

Scores: 7+7+8=22

Jake & Chelsie
Dancing: cha-cha
Movie: Risky Business
("Old Time Rock 'n' Roll")

Judges Say: "You come out 100%, you give it your all, you full-on try. It was fun, it was a pity you messed up. There was just that little incident. But great fun." - Len
"You cheeky bugger, why did you put your pants on? Your energy was incredible. There's got to be a day when you don't go wrong. Cheeky, funny, great cha-cha." - Bruno
"You got the guts, so you better enjoy the glory. I loved that dance!" - Carrie Ann

I Say: Unlike Bruno, I'm actually glad that Jake put those pants on! (Those white thighs, those tighty whities ... awkward.) And I'm also glad that I'm finding myself slowly, slooowly, coming around to enjoying his performances. He's becoming more natural and relaxed--before, his energy felt forced, but tonight it was good, not-so-clean-but-that's-okay fun. Well deserved high scores for performance and bravery. Now, to work on: precision.

Scores: 8+7+8=23

Pamela & Damian
Dancing: quickstep
Movie: Nine to Five (title song)

Judges Say: "Your characterization is always spot-on. The dancing was good as well. Posture was good, precise. A little bit more movement." - Bruno
"Your grace is great. Characterization is amazing. Your hold was a little loosey goosey." - Carrie Ann
"I can't stand 24 bars of just messing around. It's movie night but it's also Dancing with the Stars. The bit of dancing you did do, I liked. But all that, no thanks." - Len

Ha! Tom Bergeron: "And, by the way, that was Len from How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

I Say: Funnily enough ... I'm with Len! Pam and Damian were quickstepping up a storm, but we were robbed of some time thanks to their lengthy skit-like intro. Regardless, the dancing was lively and bouncy, and I loved the part where they danced across the table and chairs. Pam definitely picked the right career field, because she's a born entertainer.

Scores: 7+6+8=21

Kate & Tony
Dancing: foxtrot
Movie: Breakfast Club ("Don't Forget About Me")

Judges Say: "There is some sort of grace that's developing. I see little itty bits of it. But it's kind of like the Charlie Brown teacher ... wommm, wommm, wommm." - Carrie Ann
"It wasn't really a dance, it was a stroll. It had an elegance about it. I did like the lack of props." - Len
"Darling, I think Tony could have had more life out of a frock on a coat hanger. You were just wafting around. Catatonic. It needs a post-mortem, not a critique." - Bruno

I Say: Well, Kate said she was alright with being the eternal underdog, and she made good on that concession. She was doing the moves, but I wish she had downed about five Red Bulls beforehand. The excuses for her lack of energy are wearing thin, and so are the judges, who are losing their patience for her lack of progress. I mean, what could be worse than hearing your dancing looks like this: Wommm, wommm, wommmm...

Scores: 5+5+5=15

Nicole & Derek
Dancing: tango
Movie: Pretty Woman (title song)

Judges Say: "That, for me, was your best dance. And the best dance of the season so far. Well done." - Len
"Two players at the top of their game, riding the fine line between love and hate, bursting with sexual tension. The PRIDE and the PASSION of the tango portrayed to PERFECTION." - Bruno
"You guys are ... SUPERSTARS! The lines were incredible. Every movement you could have taken a snapshot. Beautiful." - Carrie Ann

I Say: Wow. Woooooooooooow. WOW. Nicole's performances are so funny, because both her lovers and haters are vindicated every time. When she wows me like that, I'm both so pleased that she's on this show ... and further convinced that she's too talented to be on this show. Either way, let me repeat: WOW.

Scores: 10+9+10=29

Evan & Anna
Dancing: rumba
Movie: Armageddon ("I Don't Want to Miss a Thing")

Judges Say: "There's a lyricism about it, like a ballet dancer, that is superb. This is like picking at a diamond. Superb." - Bruno
"Really tender sophistication. The movement was generating the emotion. The lines, there's a strength, and the hip action was very fluid." - Carrie Ann
"It had artistry, musicality, wonderful fluidity. Great job." - Len

I Say: Evan's dancing is so impressive in its elegant lines and artistic finesse ... even more so when we see that half the week he's practicing his figure skating! This was an emotionally evocation routine, despite the fact that this song has been trampled to death under a giant cliched cheese-ball. And for that, Evan earns even more bonus points from me!

Scores: 9+9+9=27

Well, that's it for Week 5 performances. What did you think of "Movie Night"? In Ebert-speak, I give it ... one and a half thumbs up! Mostly great dancing, accompanied by mostly played-out songs given a fresh twist. And one almost-perfect score! Leave it to Len to throw a wrench into the mix--but mark my words, Nicole and Derek will earn a 10 from him before they leave the show. I'm willing to bet Jake Pavelka's pants on it!

Once again, Evan and Nicole take the top two spots on the leader board, with Kate, the "eternal underdog," keeping her place firmly at the bottom. Don't forget to make your voice heard in our discussion of tonight's performances--your thoughts on the best and worst will determine our Week 5 Power Rankings.

Make those Dancing with the Stars Fantasy TV picks by noon tomorrow, and be sure to join me tomorrow night when we find out who will be part of the DWTS Season 10 Magnificent Seven, and who will find out they're Homeward Bound. See you then!

'Dancing with the Stars' Results: Seven Stars Survive 'Movie Night'
Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

Last night on Dancing with the Stars: The elite eight and their pro partners put forth a variety of dances inspired by iconic films, but only a few routines managed to live up to their lofty visions.

Read the Recap: DWTS Movie Night: Eight Legged Freaks

Kate Gosselin blamed her kids for her too-tired-to-bother "Breakfast Club" foxtrot, while Chad Ochocinco took a step back with a quickstep that barely managed the "Bare Necessities." On the other end of the quality spectrum, Evan Lysacek evaded "Armageddon" with an inspired rumba, and Nicole Scherzinger was a "Pretty Woman" with a near-perfect tango.

Tonight: The sun will set on one star and his/her pro partner, as America's votes and the judges' scores will combine once more to form the axe that will cut the fat for next week's Top 7 show.

Who do YOU think will go home? Your picks for tonight's safe and shaky couples combined to make our Power Rankings list, and our prediction of who will be eliminated tonight:

Safe
1. Nicole and Derek (That tango surely earned them safety, despite some fans' anger that Nicole may be overqualified.)
2. Evan and Anna
3. Erin and Maksim

Shaky
4. Chad and Cheryl
5. Pamela and Damian

Should be Packing

6. Jake and Chelsie
7. Niecy and Louis
8. Kate and Tony (Tonight's deservedly eliminated couple ... in my dreams!)

Will your predictions pan out? It's time to find out! Watch and wait along with me as we listen to the smooth vocals of Maxwell, enjoy a guest performance by Debbi Allen and watch a special tribute to dance movies during tonight's DWTS Results Show ... Liiiiiiive!

RESULTS

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough are ... SAFE.

Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani are ... in the BOTTOM TWO. (YESSSS! And I mean that in a strictly technical, not personal, sense. Feel free to bash her all you want in the comments, but I'm trying to be professional.)

Encore, Encore!
Len and Carrie Ann would love to see that fun cha-cha-cha once again, while Bruno just wants another view of Jake's milky white thighs. You can tell that without the threat of low marks looming over him, Jake can be a looser, more relaxed dancer. He's now exposed in more ways than one! And there's Vienna, cheering him on.

Maxwell Performs "Fistful of Tears"
It's like the DWTS producers are just trying to rub it in the faces of the regular Dancing band singers! ("Look, listen, learn. But mostly ... LISTEN! THIS is what great vocals sound like! No cracked voices or sharp solos!")

RESULTS

Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke are ... still in jeopardy. We'll learn their fate later.

Niecy Nash and Louis van Amstel are ... SAFE.

Brooke asks Kate about being in the bottom two, and she says "I'm giving my best, and I am having fun, contrary to popular belief."

Adam Corolla Sticks it to the Stars
"My favorite dance of the night was Kate Gosselin. Now let's watch it again in regular speed. Wait ... that wasn't slo-mo? Dear God."

Macy's Stars of Dance Performance: Movie Dance Tribute
We've got Fred Astaire and Puttin' on the Ritz:

Next Week: The stars will participate in the first-ever Swing Dance Challenge, and will also design the costumes for themselves and their partners. Be afraid, be very afraid. Especially Cheryl, for whom Chad is designing a see-through lacey number. (Color me shocked.)

"I wonder if it would be hard to design an outfit out of chocolate." - Niecy
"Armani has nothing on Ochocinco couture." - Chad

RESULTS

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya are ... SAFE.

Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower are ... still in jeopardy.

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are ... SAFE. (And Maks is HAPPY--jumping all over the place happy--about it!)

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood are ... still in jeopardy.

FINAL RESULTS

Who will join Kate and Tony in the Bottom Two? It's ...

... NOT Jake and Chelsie. They're safe! And should be. That cha-cha was charming.

... and it's NOT Chad and Cheryl! They're safe, too.

Which means Pamela and Damian are in the Bottom Two with Kate and Tony.

Who's Going Home?
Kate and Tony.

In the words of David After Dentist: "Is this real life? Is this going to be forever?"

Yes! IT IS! Justice prevails, and Tony has been freed!

Tony gives Kate props for showing up and giving her best every week despite criticism. He's very proud. (And will go home and celebrate later.) She's fighting back tears as she says, "I'm very, very honored to have been here." Whether you love her, hate her or just plain didn't want to watch her attempt to dance any longer, it's a sweet moment to behold, watching someone who's usually so hard-mouthed and stoic let her emotions boil over and show that she really did learn something from this experience.

What do you think, DWTS nation? Did America get it right this time? Are you happy to see Kate go? I bet I know the answers, but still, feel free to express your joy however you wish down there in the comments. I, for one, am glad to see that skills prevailed over scandal, though a tiny part of me will miss the trainwreck comic relief aspect of her dancing, if only for the fun metaphors she inspired. Who am I going to accuse of dancing like a robot/cardboard cut-out/drunk mom on a cruiseship NOW?

Dancing with the Stars' Season 10 Spoilers Week 6- Sherzinger's Samba Sizzles While Bachelor Jake Gyrates
Published April 26, 2010
by: Victoria Leigh Miller

Monday night on the 6th week of competition on ABC's Dancing With the Stars, the 7 remaining couples danced either the Samba or the Argentine Tango. And as an added bonus, all of the couples competed in a swing dance marathon. So how did the dance routines go on the April 26[sup]th[/sup] performance episode of DWTS?

But first, pro dancer Derek Hough had nothing but praise for last week's ousted competitor, reality mom Kate Gosselin. According to People, Hough praised Gosselin, saying, " She represented all those mothers at home with their kids that watch the show that think 'I would love to do that.' She lived it and they lived through her experience." Hough also added, "She was fantastic."

With Gosselin gone, Judges Bruno Tonioli, Len Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba channeled their harshest criticism at a surprising celeb dancer.

Here are the results of the performances for Week 6 this week on Dancing With the Stars:

Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower . The Bachelor star said he was "ready to close the gap" between himself and frontrunners Nicole Sherzinger and Evan Lycasek. Len acknowledged Jake's performance was "more polished" than usual and Bruno noted "The pelvic gyrations... you were very comfortable with {that}."
DANCE: Samba
JUDGES SCORE:21/30

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya. After a concussion scare at practice, the Olympic skater danced a tad too lyrically for Bruno. Carrie Ann was even more of a downer, saying "You lost the battle with the samba". The critics were especially harsh on Lysacek this week, perhaps saving some of that pent up Kate Gosselin criticism for someone new.
DANCE: Samba
JUDGES SCORE: 21/30

Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel. The comedian and her partner spoofed t5eh tango with a food theme, which prompted Len to say to Nash, IT's obvious you're an enthusiastic eater." Carrie Ann called her "in the zone".
DANCE: Argentine Tango
JUDGES SCORE:21/30

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Len chewed out the ESPN correspondent's partner, Maks, for this one, chastising Erin for her middle of the road scores and saying, "Come out and give me a proper dance".
DANCE: Samba
JUDGES SCORE: 25/30

Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke. The football pro and his partner sassed things up, which prompted Carrie Ann to declare, "You nailed it."
DANCE: Argentine Tango
JUDGES SCORE: 24/30

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough. Frontrunners perhaps, but even this hot couple didn't escape the wrath of Len this week. Len called their samba "a hodgepodge of sexy moves and gyrations". But Bruno and Carrie Ann loved it!
DANCE : Samba
JUDGES SCORE: 26/30

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood . The Baywatch star may be sick of being in the Bottom 2, so she gave this week's dance her all, even donning a brunette wig. Len gave her dance overall good praise, while Bruno applauded her characterization.
DANCE: Argentine Tango
JUDGES SCORE: 22/30

The Swing Dance Competition

This week the couples capped off the evening with a 3 minute Swing Dance competition. The judges voted couples out and the last couple standing earned the highest score of an extra 10 points. Here's the order in which the stars were voted off the dance floor and the number of extra points that each couple received.

Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower - 4 points, TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 25

Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel- 5 points, TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 26

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya- 6 points, TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 27

Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke- 7 points , TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 31

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood- 8 points , TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 30

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy- 9 points, TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 34

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough - 10 points, TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 36

Tune into Tuesday night's results show to find out which couple didn't make the cut on the Dancing With the Stars' results show Tuesday, April 27[sup]th[/sup] at 8:00 PM ET/PT on ABC.

‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 10, Week 6: ‘You’re an Enthusiastic Eater’
April 26, 2010, 11:00 PM ET
By Lyneka Little, The Wall Street Journal

In week six, the “Dancing with the Stars” contestants battled it out on stage using foot and hand coordination for the Argentine tango or the sexy samba. It was a night of food jokes and other zingers as the remaining contestants fought for the right to dance. After losing former competitor Kate Gosselin, the dance competition was down to seven and at the half-way point inching closer to the end.

To start, Jake Pavelka tackled the samba taking some criticism for lacking rhythm during his performance. Jake was praised for his potential but criticized for his inability to flow. With the latter being the most important part of a dance competition, we’re not sure why the former “Bachelor” star didn’t get a much lower score. The star received a 21 out of 30 for his performance, which undoubtedly demonstrated his comfort on the stage but not his proficiency with the dance.

Meanwhile, his competitor Evan Lysacek took to the samba like a fish in water despite a back flipping head injury while rehearsing with partner Anna Trebunskaya. A slight concussion couldn’t stop the Olympian’s mastery of the sexy, hip-swiveling moves — even if the judges don’t agree with us viewers at home. “It’s all very beautiful but not appropriate for this,” said judge Bruno. When you get criticism for being “far too poetic” in your dance moves, keep those tear ducts dry and smile. You did good! The judges gave Evan an identical score as Jake with 21 out 30 points — his lowest score — because it seems the expectations are higher for the more graceful dancer.

Niecy Nash worked on controlling her feet and minimizing her “feminine wiles” for the Argentine tango. “It’s obvious you’re an enthusiastic eater,” says Len. Ouch! What was supposed to be a compliment came across as an unconscious dig from judge Len who awarded Niecy 7 points, bringing her total to 21 out of 30 for her humorous take on the tango.

Len took his foot out of his mouth for the next performance, vocally expressing his dislike for Erin Andrews‘ routine. The judge chided her dance partner for the props and skin that has become a weekly part of the duo’s routines. “You come out and show me a proper dance, I’m fed up with shirts coming off,” he said. The ESPN host scored a 25 out of 30 for the samba — getting nines from two of the three judges. In this case, we’re siding with Len. Erin Andrews should be competing with the likes of Nicole and, for that, we need a little less burlesque and a lot more flow. The blindfolds and semi-nudity are unnecessary at this point. Perhaps, she was distracted by the bands performance of Robin Thicke’s “When I Get You Alone” because the cover tunes are definitely distracting when performed by the house band.

Chad Chococino took the lead in the Argentine tango, one of his better performances as a leading man. The foot work and posture notably improved from previous weeks in the competition. He’s improving before our eyes. We were on the same page as the judges this go ’round. The Bengals player received his highest score of 24 out of 30.

Nicole Scherzinger stepped into dance teacher mode versus student while in rehearsal preparing for the samba routine. We’re not sure who’s teaching who but it’s paying off. The star received criticism from one judge who said the samba was missing a few key elements, like the Boto-Foga but that didn’t stop her from receiving the top score of the night with a 26 out of 30.

And, then came Pamela Anderson, who was fighting to escape from the bottom two with the Argentine tango. The former “Baywatch” actor does her best acting when on the dance floor, and her 22 out of 30 kept her from turning the score of 21 into a four way tie. Brava.

Then a second round began. This time, the competitors had to do Swing dance marathon. The question: Who would be the last couple standing in the marathon that could earn contestants as much as 10 extra points?

Here’s how they left the stage: Jake (4), Niecy (5), Evan (6), Chad (7), Pamela (8), Erin (9), Nicole (10)

At the end, with Erin and Nicole battling it out for style and stamina in the last round, we couldn’t help but think this was a glimpse of the of the finale. When Erin gives her all, she’’s one of the few competing with the top dance talent Nicole. What do you think?

What did you think of tonight’s episode? Who are you rooting for now? Did the judges make the right decisions?

'Dancing with the Stars' Results: America Picks Its Top Six
Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

The scores (harsh, for some, as they may have been) are in, and so are the votes. Tonight, another couple will see their Mirrorball Trophy dreams go up in smoke.

Who's going home? Well, it's clear who you, the BuddyTV buddies, think will be shown the door. According to your votes last night and this morning, 43% think Jake is the worst dancer, with Niecy close behind at 31%. And you have faith that America will vote for talent, not over-enthusiasm or jiggly parts, because 46% of you think Jake will get the boot, with Niecy again close behind with 23%.

If you're just joining us today, allow me to point you to what you may have missed since last night's samba and swing exhibition: Maks called Len "too old" (and "one billion percent wrong"), I thought Erin's purple feather duster was delightful (but some of you disagree, which is fine, although you are wrong), and, for the first time this season, someone who isn't Nicole or Evan hit #1 in my Performance Rankings (where, again, some of you disagree, but that's what's great about America/anonymous comment threads: we're all entitled to our opinions, wrong as they may be).

In fact, if these disagreements teach us anything, it's that Dancing with the Stars is one heck of a subjective show, with something (and someone) for everyone, and there's just no telling who will get the high points and the big votes! Which makes these Results Shows so exciting. And nerve-wracking.

Even more exciting about tonight's show? Melissa Etheridge is here to sing "Come to My Window," and world-class Flamenco/Spanish guitarist Benise will play "Salsa Salsa." One song I know all too well, and one song I know not at all. See? Something for everyone!

Now, on to the show ... "Liiiiiiiive!"

Tom and Brooke give their recap: Last night saw a leader board shake-up, with Nicole joined by Chad and Erin toward the top of the board, while Evan fell alongside Jake and Niecy at the bottom.

Results
The first SAFE couple: Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. (Good work, America! You saved the shirtless wonder and his sassy, improving partner.)

Then Len gives his stodgy but supreme recap: Nicole and Derek were "all sizzle but no sausage" (is that a jab at "little Derek"?), and Evan "fell from heaven." Jake gives "100 percent commitment" (which Len likes) and Pam isn't precise in her footwork (which he doesn't). Niecy interrupts Len to ask what he thought of her dance, and he says he "thoroughly enjoyed" her tango despite his dislike for "gags." Chad and Erin were the "breakout pair of the night," and Chad's tango was Len's favorite dance of the evening.

Encore, Encore!
Chad and Cheryl perform their Argentine tango once again, proving that Maks may not like it, but what Len says goes.

Melissa Etheridge performs the title track of her new album, "Fearless Love." Tony Dovolani's back to dance with Chelsie Hightower, joined by Maks and Anna on the floor as well.

RESULTS:
Second SAFE couple is: Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke. (The shameless...ly entertaining flirt lives to dance another day! He may have gotten denied for a celebratory kiss, but at least he's got another week to work on it.)

Benise performs "Salsa Salsa" with a full band and his own group of dancers backing him up.

Special Segment: Sports Science analyzes the physical movements of Dmitry and Edyta. They strap each dancer with wireless data-collecting bio-strap thingies to track the strength, balance and precision it takes to be a master ballroom dancer. The result? Behold, Edyta in The Matrix:

They also discovered that Dmitry and Edyta could hit the same moves with such precision that their average time difference was less than the time it takes for a hummingbird to flap its wings. Crazy!

Melissa Etheridge performs "Come to my Window" as the lovely couple Edyta Sliwinska and Alec Mazo dance.

Celeb Spotting: Sam Neill (of Jurassic Park awesomeness and Happy Town unfortunate decision-making) is sitting in the front row tonight.

MORE RESULTS:
Third SAFE couple: Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough.

Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower are ... still in limbo.

Fourth SAFE couple: Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood.

Which leaves Jake, Evan and Niecy still wondering where they stand. For now, they stand together, awaiting the red light of death:

FINAL RESULTS
The Bottom Two couples are: Jake & Chelsie and Niecy & Louis.

ELIMINATED TONIGHT:

Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower
And, to a certain extent, his fiancee, Vienna Girardi
"I have loved every second of this. I love you," Jake says to Chelsie. He also thanks his fans, and Vienna looks heartbroken as Jake holds back tears and then dances his final dance with Chelsie.

What do you think? Did America make the right decision? Are you sad to see Jake go? Dd you think he could have made it all the way?

I'll definitely miss Jake's enthusiasm, though I think it was his time. All the remaining couples are so strong and multi-dimensional, I wasn't ready to see any of them go.

Next Week: The cha-cha challenge!

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 7 - Dance Night, May 3rd.

- Evan got the first perfect score, all 10's. When combined with the group Cha-cha, Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya and Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough are tied for first place.
- Niecy is complemented for her best performance to date, but still ends up with the lowest score.

'Dancing with the Stars' Season 10 Spoilers: Week 7- It's Perfect 10's and a Cha Cha Challenge
Published May 03, 2010
by: Victoria Leigh Miller

Was the 'DWTS' May 3rd Cha Cha Challenge Hot Hot Hot or Not Not Not?

Monday night on Week 7 of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, the 6 remaining couples performed two dance routines-- their individual dances and the once-a-season team dance, the Cha Cha Challenge. So were this week's dances

Judges Bruno Tonioli, Len Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba were in a generous mood Monday night, as they doled out plenty of high scores and even a set of perfect 10's.

Here are the results of the performances for Week 7 on Dancing With the Stars:

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
After being reprimanded by Len last week for losing his shirt, Maks went a step further this week and took off his pants- only to have another pair of pants underneath! Erin and Maks performed an energetic quickstep and the judges loved it. Len said, "Erin, without a doubt your best dance" and Bruno said it was "lightening fast and brighter than Len's tie."
DANCE: Quickstep
JUDGES SCORE: 27 /30

Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke
Chad and Cheryl pulled off a graceful and beautiful waltz, which prompted Bruno to call the football pro a "gentle giant". Carrie Ann gushed, 'There is nothing sexier than watching a man find out how to be tender and graceful." But it was Len who gave Chad the biggest compliment of all, saying, "Remember this night, May 3, 2010, the night you became a contender.":
DANCE: Viennese Waltz
JUDGES SCORE:25 /30

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough
Nicole and Derek danced a beautiful waltz to the tune of 'You Light Up My Life", a song that is close to Nicole's heart. Carrie Ann dubbed Scherzinger, "by far the best dancer we've ever had on the show." Bruno called her "dancing royalty"
DANCE : Slow Waltz
JUDGES SCORE: 27/30

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood
After a beautiful slow waltz, Len's main criticism for the Baywatch star was that she ends to "firm up" her upper body. Host Tom Bergeron quipped, "Welcome to Double Entendre Theater".
DANCE: Slow Waltz
JUDGES SCORE: 24/30

Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel. Comedian Niecy Nash and her partner Louis Van Amstel may have lost some practice time this week. Louis Tweeted earlier in the day that he had food poisoning on Sunday. Luckily he recovered in time for Monday's show! No one seemed sick when the pair danced their quickstep. Bruno touted it Nash's best dance to date and the other judges agreed. After getting her best total score of the season (including a 9!), Nash screamed, "I can dance!"
DANCE: Quickstep
JUDGES SCORE:25/30

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya
After performing a sexy and saucy tango, the Olympic skater was given his best scores to date. Carrie told him he had "the eye of the tiger" and Bruno said he danced like a true alpha male, conquering his territory. Len dropped the hint, "I have a paddle here that I haven't used yet and I'm gonna dust it off." And dust it off he did. Evan and Anna received perfect 10's tonight.
DANCE: Argentine Tango
JUDGES SCORE: 30/30

The Cha Cha Challenge Competition
Next up was the Cha Cha Challenge, where the stars danced in teams for an additional score. The Cha Cha Challenge score was added to their individual dance scores this week. The 2 teams for the Cha Cha Challenge were:

Team Gaga: Nicole, Derek, Chad, Cheryl, Pam and Damien
Team Madonna: Erin, Maks, Evan , Anna, Niecy and Louis

Team Gaga danced their cha cha to Lady Gaga's "Telephone" while Team Madonna danced to Madonna's "Holiday" .

While both team dances were a good effort, Team Gaga blew away Team Madonna. The judges commented on the sexual energy of the Gaga team, and they had frontrunner Scherzinger which didn't hurt them. Team Gaga received a total score of 27/ 30.

Team Madonna had a disadvantage based on their outfits alone- the girls looked like Madonna circa 1984. Still, Bruno told Erin she was "into the groove" and Carrie Ann called their team dance "a lot of fun". Team Madonna received a score of 24/ 30.

Final Scores After the Cha Cha Challenge

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya -TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 54/60

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy-TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 51/60

Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel- TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 49/60

Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke -TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 52/60

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood- TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 51/60

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough -TOTAL JUDGES SCORE: 54/60

'Dancing with the Stars' Results: The Final Five Are Revealed
Tuesday, May 04, 2010
John Kubicek
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

It's results night on Dancing with the Stars, which means 59 minutes of filler and one cruel cut. Evan, Chad, Erin and Niecy all had their season high scores last night while Nicole and Pamela were both helped by being on the winning team in the Cha-Cha Challenge, so it's certain this cut will be hard.

Read My Recap of the Top 6 Performance Show>>

Results, Part 1:

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough are...SAFE!
Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are...IN THE BOTTOM 2!

See, that's what happens when Maks keeps his clothes on. Len Goodman is an idiot. We could be in store for a big shock if a couple that scored a 27 in the individual dance goes home. However, I'd like to point out that Erin and Maks were my least favorite individual performance of the night, so clearly America agrees with me.

Encore - Team Gaga:

The Team Gaga Cha-Cha-Cha is the encore, but Pamela Anderson has an injury, so Chelsie Hightower is stepping in. Ah, so that's what it's supposed to look like. Pamela was the absolute worst part of Team Gaga, so replacing her with a pro is great in my book. I really hated Pamela last night, because if Team Gaga did this last night, it would've been a lot higher in my performance rankings.

Results, Part 2:

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya are...SAFE!
Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke are..???

Tom Bergeron is being a bit of a dillweed by making Chad and Cheryl (who had a birthday yesterday) wait a little longer. At least Tom has the decency to laughingly be ashamed of this.

Interviews:

Pamela Anderson is sad she didn't get to do the encore, but she promises to aggravate her injured leg tomorrow if she stays in the competition. To win, Niecy Nash is willing to have a "wardrobe malfunction." I strangely want to see Niecy and Pamela on a buddy cop sitcom. I would call it Jiggly Force.

Results, Part 3:

Niecy Nash and Louis van Amstel are...SAFE!
Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood are...???

Huzzah, Niecy is safe! The jiggly parts live! She and Derek are the two people on Dancing with the Stars I love the most, so I'm good.

Results, Part 4:

Chad and Cheryl are...SAFE!
Pamela and Damian are...IN THE BOTTOM 2

Pamela and Damian are ELIMINATED!

I'm sad since she was very entertaining, but since I predicted it, I'm happy too. I guess all those housewives who watch this show still resent the fact that their husbands used to fantasize about her all the time. She's very poised and polite during her final interview, not a total crying wuss like a certain Bachelor was last week.

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: A Doll's House
Nicole Scherzinger dances a perfect paso doble
Posted by Kate Mulcrone
Monday, May 10, 2010 7:52 PM

For the first time this season our contenders had to perform two full routines each, a ballroom dance and a decade-themed Latin dance. Nicole dominated the ballroom round with a lightfooted foxtrot and also took top honors in the Latin round with an absolutely breathtaking paso doble. In fact, our lovely Nicole was just one point away from a perfect 60 tonight.

Erin and Maks turned in an amazing are-they-or-aren't-they tango and Evan and Anna debuted a sugary sweet waltz.

Unfortunately, not everyone did their best work tonight. Niecy struggled in both the ballroom and the Latin round and Chad's tango was a disappointment.

In case you missed part of the show, here are all the dirty details:

Chad Ochocinco
He showed the tango who was boss in Week 6, but tonight Chad's tango was a miss. His posture was off and he made a few missteps -- and of course the judges noticed. Chad's '60s-style jive, on the other hand, was a smashing success. It was light and fun and, as Bruno said, he "totally pimped that jive." His footwork was excellent and his hips were nice and loose. We're at the point in the competition where any little mistake can sink you. Since that tango was a no-go, Chad had better hope his fans will come through for him.
Tango: 21/30
Jive: 24/30
Total: 45/60

Niecy Nash
Although her carriage was elegant -- Len actually used the word "gorgeous" -- Niecy seemed a little overwhelmed during her waltz. It looked more like she was trying to keep up with Louis than dance with him. Her '90s-style paso doble started out bumpy but she pulled it together toward the end. That might have been OK at the beginning of the competition, but poor lines and bad rhythm just won't cut it in Week 8. I'm afraid the paso doble might have been Niecy's last turn out on the floor.
Waltz: 23/30
Paso doble: 20/30
Total: 43/60

Erin Andrews
Her tango absolutely sizzled. Erin's footwork was her best yet, her frame was excellent (as it always is) and she seemed completely caught up in the magic of the dance. The lifts in this routine were even more jaw-dropping than Evan and Anna's last week. And, hey, Erin and Maks may not actually be dating, but there's a real spark between them. (Brooke asked them about their "love story" and they didn't deny anything.) Their '80s-style rumba wasn't quite as successful. Although Erin pulled off an impressive split sequence she was a little bit stiff and choppy throughout. Still, Erin was on her game and seems poised to take it to the next level in the semifinals.
Tango: 28/30
Rumba: 25/30
Total: 53/60

Evan Lysacek
He and Anna danced beautifully together, as always, but their waltz was a little too Disneyfied for me ... especially the weird daydreamy lead-in. Len seemed to feel the same way, and said that he wanted to see it again before deciding whether or not he liked it. Still, cheesy doesn't mean bad and Evan got top marks for this one. He and Anna drew "the future" in the Latin round, and their cha-cha was sort of Tin Man meets "Thriller." Len pointed out that being robotic on purpose really helped Evan play to his strengths, since he tends to be a little too stiff in Latin dances. Let's hope he'll take the judges' words to heart as he prepares for the next round of competition.
Waltz: 27/30
Cha-cha: 26/30
Total: 53/60

Nicole Scherzinger
Her foxtrot may have looked whimsical and lighthearted, but there were some tough moves in that routine! Bruno called it "a jewel created by a master," probably because Nicole matched Derek step for step out on the floor. It was honestly just about perfect -- so much so that Len didn't object to the gratuitous use of props. I thought their '50s-style paso doble was the best dance of the season so far. There was an amazing his 'n hers quality to this tight and fast routine. As usual, Nicole's extension was amazing, her footwork was beyond flawless and her rhythm was spot on. The crowd was absolutely blown away, and so were the other contestants. I clearly saw Chad Ochocinco mouthing "Wow" to no one in particular. Even Carrie Ann was at a loss. She broke into excited giggles at the beginning of her critique! I can't wait to see what Nicole does next week.
Foxtrot: 29/30
Paso doble: 30/30
Total: 59/60

Who won over the judges: Nicole

Who won over the audience: Nicole

Who needs to step it up: Niecy

'Dancing with the Stars' Live Recap: Top 5 Dance Double on 'Era Night'
Monday, May 10, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

I'm back, ballroom babies! Many thanks to my BuddyTV buddy John for covering for me last week while I rubbed illustrious actor elbows with Colin Hanks and Bradley Whitford on the Good Guys set.

But now my focus is back where it belongs: on Maksim Chmerkovskiy's beautiful bod! Wait, err, I mean, on dancing. Yes, that's what I meant. Dancing! (But really, shirtlessness.)

Tonight: The top five couples each take on TWO different dances, one Ballroom and one Latin, the latter of which will feature a song and style taken from an era in time. We found out who's dancing what thanks to their tweets, though some stars are staying mum on which eras they'll be repping tonight. But not Louis van Amstel, who just couldn't contain himself from tweeting that he and Niecy will dance a 90s Paso Doble to "Rhythm is a Dancer." Uhhhhhh ... ! Just so you know, if this recap stops after they perform, it's because my HEAD EXPLODED from awesome-overload, and I can no longer type. Because no head.

Needless to say, I'm stoked to be back and chatting about all-star dancing. Who's here with me? And what do you think of our top five couples? We're about to find out how they fared with double-dance-duty now, because it's time for Dancing with the Stars ... "Liiiiiiiive!"

We'll see the couples' ballroom dances first, and then their era routines.

First, we hear what the ballroom pros think of their star competition:

Erin: Long, graceful arms, but doesn't trust Maks enough
Evan: He's a born competitor, but needs to find chemistry with Anna
Chad: Great posture, but he needs to move faster and harder
Nicole: She's an almost-perfect dancer, but she needs to enjoy it more
Niecy: She's elegant, but needs to get lighter on her feet and improve technique.

The Ballroom Round:

Chad & Cheryl
Dancing: Tango
Song: "Sweet Dreams," Beyonce

Technical Difficulties: You've got to be KIDDING ME. The news interrupted my LIVE show for a tornado warning. Grrrr! When the show finally came back on, I heard Carrie Ann tell them that the dance was funky and lacked unity.
Update: I found the dance online! But honestly, if any tornado warning were going to interrupt my Dancing time, I'm glad it was during this routine. I was left ... underwhelmed. No, that's a bit harsh. Maybe just ... "whelmed" (if I were in Europe). What I'm trying to say is that my time being pissed off about a tornado warning was mostly unnecessary and in the end more memorable than Chad and Cheryl's tango, which was technically sufficient but not up to snuff for Week 8. Chad needs more polish or he's going to be waving good-bye tomorrow.
Scores: 7+7+7=21

Niecy & Louis
Dancing: Viennese Waltz
Song: "I Got You Babe"

Judges Say: "Great movement, you have to watch it though because at time you were swinging your arms and you looked like you were being chased by wasps. It was a tiny thing in an otherwise great performance." - Bruno
"There was a little too much push and pull happening. The transitions were not quite there." - Carrie Ann
"Niecy, I'm pleasantly surprised. It had a lovely, floaty quality to it. Your carriage was gorgeous." - Len
I Say: There's no question that Louis and Niecy have some of the best chemistry around, and they just look like they're having fun out there. But the dancing is still a bit clunky where it needs to be smoooooth. But what's nice is how energetic and joyful these two are. Their great personality easily distracts from the technical issues in their transitions. Love Niecy! She is FUN personified.
Scores: 7+8+8=23

Erin & Maks
Dancing: Argentine tango
Song: ? (A sexy Spanish number)

Judges Say: "That was just so hot, I can't even describe it. Your legs were phenomenal, you were committed to the character. Truly beautiful." - Carrie Ann
"Erin, you dirty, dirty girl. I absolutely LOVED it!" - Len
"Maks, you are a lucky fire hydrant. I never knew you could be so bendy. You were on fire." - Bruno
I Say: Looks like those pros were right about Erin's second-guessing. Every intro package, including this one, shows Erin fighting with Maks. And yet, every week she comes out and performs like those nerves were never there. Props to Maks for choreographing a challenging, super-sexy routine that flexed Erin in all the right ways. That was ... H. O. T-T-T-T-T-T-T!
Scores: 9+10+9=28
A TEN from LEN? His "dirty" mind is in a good mood tonight!

Evan & Anna
Dancing: Waltz
Song: "Open Arms," Journey

Judges Say: "I'm not sure if I liked it or not. I'd like to watch it again. I didn't like the roly-poly stuff on the floor. However, your posture's great, you've got lovely movement. I'm in flux." - Len
"Romeo and Juliet, reawakened. Your lyrical lines, the purity and beauty of your top half..." - Bruno
"You just get mesmerized by the lines. But when I look closer, you need to lose yourself in the moment." - Carrie Ann
I Say: Anna wanted to dance "the most romantic waltz that has ever been on DWTS," which is a little bit comical when you consider they were dancing to Journey. But what wasn't comical was the beautiful grace that Evan showed here. Last week John decided Evan was boring, but I disagree. He's just not used to performing emotionally, so he comes off as closed-off. This dance didn't quite fully open him up to the emotional element, but it was still gorgeously danced.
Scores: 9+9+9=27
I guess flux-y Len decided that he liked it.

Nicole & Derek
Dancing: Foxtrot
Song: "Haven't Met You Yet," Michael Buble

Judges Say: "Pure dancing JOY! That was like a jewel created by a master. I salute you." - Bruno
"It's nice to see you smiling again. You're dazzling. You're just defying my imagination. You're not phoning it in. You're challenging yourself." - Carrie Ann
"You've taken a foxtrot, a Michael Buble song, and you've turned it into an enchanting love story. It's irresistible." - Len
I Say: Okay, so it's really just a matter of time before Derek and Nicole either hit the road or our TVs with a vaudeville variety hour. And I think we should all make a pact to buy tickets, because that will be one hell of a show. Anyway: for taking it so super-seriously in rehearsals, Nicole does a great job of coming out like a consummate performer and keeping it fun and fresh. This was a joy to watch, and seemed like a joy to dance.
Scores: 10+9+10=29
The 10s are coming out to PLAY tonight, y'all! What do you think: are they deserved?

The Latin Era Round:

But first ... behold! The FUTURE! Where we all dress like the tin man and live in The Matrix.

Or, as Tom Bergeron puts it, "where we've outgrown our need for emotion, but not hair gel." Yuck, yuck.

Chad & Cheryl
Dancing: 60s Jive
Song: "The Love Man," Otis Redding

Judges Say: "It was high energy, it was fun, it was entertaining." - Len
"You definitely pimped that jive. It's great to see you smile. When you smile and have a good time, the whole thing changes." - Bruno
"It was groovy, the energy was a little wild at times, but it suited the dance perfectly." - Carrie Ann
I Say: This was a fast-paced, fun-loving jive, but Chad didn't feel fully committed to the movements. For a wide receiver, he needs a little lesson in hustling (but not hustlin'). His smile was convincing, but he seemed to be second-guessing himself and half-dancing the short steps of the jive. Chad makes a good love man, but I didn't love it.
Scores: 8+8+8=24

Niecy & Louis
Dancing: 90s Paso Doble
Song: "Rhythm is a Dancer," Snap!

Judges Say:
"I think you throw yourself into it a bit like an avalanche. It's a very difficult dance. It requires a lot of control, and there was barely any." - Bruno
"I felt this was your most ambitious routine yet. At the beginning it felt like bumper cars. The balance of power was out of wack." - Carrie Ann
"Everyone has a dance that really doesn't suit their personality, and I think the paso doble is the dance that doesn't suit you." - Len
I Say: Well, on the plus side, my head didn't explode. But on the negative side, Niecy wanted to prove that she could be "intense, fierce and powerful," and she did it ... but at times she did it like a dizzy, pissed-off bumblebee. I still love her, but Len's right: this was not her dance. I wasn't overwhelmed by awesome like I hoped I would be.
Scores: 7+6+7=20
Uh oh. Should Niecy be worried about her fate tomorrow? That's a low score for Week 8, but we still have three dances to go. Maybe Nicole will really screw it up and save Niecy's day. (And maybe I'll win $1 million by never buying lotto tickets. It ain't gonna happen.)

Erin & Maks
Dancing: 80s Rumba
Song: "I Ain't Missing You," John Waite

Judges Say: "You do doubt yourself. You move beautifully. You should love every minute of it. I wanna see that." - Carrie Ann
"Overall the mix of steps was great. The whole thing was jerky. You've got to smooth it out." - Len
"You two make great music together. Your extension is getting better and better. I think you should be in the final." - Bruno
I Say: Like Erin's lilac legwarmers, this rumba was pretty, but not too powerful. After their torrid tango, this rumba felt lukewarm. But that's not to say that Erin didn't pull off some beautiful moves. Especially in the end of the routine, her chemistry and passion in her interplay with Maks was lovely.
Scores: 8+8+9=25

Evan & Anna
Dancing: Futuristic Cha-cha
Song: "Bulletproof," La Roux

Judges Say: "For me, Evan, your Latin generally lacks any rhythm. You're a robot, so you haven't got to be loose and liquid. Again, you've confused me." - Len
"For me it was clear: It's Mr. Spock meets Barbarella in Cha-Cha Trek 3-D!" - Bruno
"I actually thought that this time you were much more committed to your character. It was perfectly lucky. The stiff movement is what you were going for, and it worked well." - Carrie Ann
I Say: Ohhhh ... THERE'S my HEAD EXPLOSION OF AWESOME! I loved this. Loved the song, loved the concept, loved the dance, loved the costumes ... loved everything. Call me a sucker for a Fifth Element inspired costume, but this dance screamed "Amazingness!" straight to my geeky, sci-fi loving heart.
Scores: 9+8+9=26

Nicole & Derek
Dancing: 50s Paso Doble

Judges Say: "Full of color. The flavor of Spain has never tasted so good!" - Bruno
"How did you do that? How did you match 50s with paso in a way that was like ... BRILLIANT!" - Carrie Ann
"It's not in my nature to be nice about two dances in one night. I am really disappointment because there was nothing I could see to criticize." - Len
I Say: What is there to say? My geek heart didn't explode, but my brain was absolutely impressed by Derek's ability to marry the 50s with paso doble, and with Nicole's ability to perform it to perfection once again. I mean ... what did you expect?
Scores: 10+10+10=30

Final Scores & My Final Thoughts
Well, that's it for the Week 8 performances, and these top five are clearly in it to win it! With so many impressive routines tonight, which were your favorites? Who earned your votes tonight?

You guys, I'm like Natalie Imbruglia: Torn. Evan and Anna's futuristic cha-cha was my personal favorite, but as a whole package, Nicole and Derek schooled the group with two exciting, gorgeous dances that even had Len drooling. Their superiority is self-evident. But then you've got Erin and Maksim, who heated up the floor with a Argentine tango that screamed "SEXAY," and I screamed "LOVE IT" right back. How do I choose? Even Chad and Niecy, who earned hard-won 7s and 8s, had personalities I just don't want to see go bye-bye tomorrow.

Whatever way it goes, I'ma be wiping back some tears tomorrow night. And back here recording all my thoughts about it during my live results recap. Join me, won't you please?

Here are the final scores:

The Leaderboard:
Nicole and Derek: 29+30=59
Evan and Anna: 27+26=53
Erin and Maks: 28+25=53
Chad and Cheryl: 21+24=45
Niecy and Louis: 23+20=43

'Dancing with the Stars' Live Results: Meet Your Final Four, America
Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the final five stars and their pros pulled double dancing duty, some with better results than others.

Tonight, the final five turns into the final four--and leads us into the Dancing semi-finals.

After a night of shaky 7s and 8s, Chad Ochocinco and Niecy Nash are most as risk for the voters' wrath when the results come in. But an upset isn't unheard of. Could the public choose to punish Nicole Scherzinger for her five perfect tens? Erin Andrews got her best scores yet last week only to find herself the bottom two, anyway; could it happen again? How about Evan Lysacek: were his five 9s good enough to stay in the game when we all know he's capable of earning 10s?

Will technical perfection win over personality, or vice versa?

We're about to find out where your priorities are, America. Will you be able to live with your choice? It's time for Dancing with the Stars Results!

If it's okay with you guys, I'm just going to recap the results and leave the rest of the filler alone. Actually, you better be okay with it, because that's exactly what I'm going to do either way!

RESULTS

SAFE: Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough.

Expected and deserved. Well done!

IN THE BOTTOM TWO: Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke.

Uh oh. Also expected, but it would still be a big loss in the bravado-department of the show. What do you think--will Chad live to dance another day?

MORE RESULTS

SAFE: Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya!

Yay Team Evanna! I can't wait to see how Evan takes his criticism from this week and comes back swinging.

WHO'S IN THE BOTTOM TWO WITH CHAD?

SAFE: Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Bottom Two: Niecy Nash and Louis van Amstel

ELIMINATED:

Niecy Nash and Louis van Amstel

Well, Niecy had a great ride and proved to all those mean gym teachers and jiggly-part-haters out there that curvy gals can dance, too! I will miss her bubbly personality on the show, but I think we've got the right final four on our hands. What do you guys think?

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 9 - Dance Night, May 17th.

- Things are looking great for Pussycat Doll Nicole!
- Boo to Derek for not realising that Len is looking for traditional dance routines done to perfection. Not getting a double perfect score allowed Evan to tie Nicole.
- Cheers to Evan's macho Paso Doble
- Admirable performance under pressure by Erin.
- Looks like Chad is leaving on a high note. Good for him for improving so much from a bad couple of early weeks.

'Dancing with the Stars' Live Recap: The Final Four Take the Floor
Monday, May 17, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

It's dance-or-die time for the Dancing with the Stars Season 10 final four. And given that each couple will perform two brand new dances in two all-new styles after just one week to prepare, the pressure couldn't be higher for Chad Ochocinco, Erin Andrews, Evan Lysacek and Nicole Scherzinger. Well, maybe not for Nicole--or do I mean especially for Nicole? It's lonely at the top, with all us underlings standing there just waiting for her to trip up.

By all accounts, most viewers are predicting that Chad's waltz and samba tonight will turn him from Ochocinco to Ocho-stink-o. Will he get out there and prove us wrong? Will he be partying in the U.S.A. with Miley tomorrow night, or weeping along to Sarah McLachlan's tragic melodies? It all depends on tonight's performances, and who wins your votes.

Tonight: I'm here to give you the play by play and my unique perspective on all eight performances. Follow along with me as we watch these semi-finalists fight their way into the finals, and tell me in those comments: who's winning your votes, and who should be packing his/her bags?

Tom starts with an announcement: for the past several weeks, each couple has led in the viewer votes. So it's a clean slate for everyone.

Erin & Maksim
Dancing: Viennese waltz
Song: February Song, Josh Groban

Judges Say: "For me, you just made a giant step through the door." - Len
"You have improved so much since the beginning. The fluidity, continuity ... Wonderful." - Bruno
"I just adore watching you. Such a grace. I do see you grow. You are doing wonderfully." - Carrie Ann
I Say: Very sweet, fluid and clean. There's a real connection between these two, emotionally and physically, that just makes it work. The song is a little emotionally cheesy for my tastes, but it's a waltz, so what are you going to do, you know?
Scores: 9+9+9=27
Haha, Bruno accidentally held up his 10 when he meant 9! "He has a premature paddle," says Tom.

Nicole & Derek
Dancing: Argentine tango
Song: Instrumental

Judges Say: "You were like a divine enchantress, using each move to draw us deeper and deeper and deeper. Enslaved by you, enchanted by the dance!" - Bruno
"You took Bruno somewhere else, but you brought me to tears. Just so profound. You are so amazing. You're dynamic when you need to be dynamic, explosive when you need to be explosive. What you're doing is incredible." - Carrie Ann
I Say: Close-knit, tight and fierce ... that explains both the dance and their partnership. A truly beautiful tango in its truest sense: passionate and sexy all the way through. Did Derek have a neck injury, or is he trying to wrack up the performance vote AND the pity vote? Just kidding. He doesn't need the pity vote.
Scores: 10+10+10=30

Chad & Cheryl
Dancing: Waltz
Song
: "If You Don't Know Me By Now"

Judges Say: "Where did you come from? New posture, new elegance, neverending movement. Fluidity. Refinement. Woohoo!" - Carrie Ann
"You're the only one with absolutely no dance experience in this semi-finals. Fantastic." - Len
"Respect. You are one of the guys who had the toughest criticism from day one. We knew there was something there for us to see. Tonight you showed it to us. You're a star." - Bruno
I Say: That is certainly the best slow ballroom dance that Chad has EVER done. I say that with absolute certainty. But it still feels like he still lacks a little bit of certainty in himself--or at least he did, before that dance and the judges' comments. Chad just blossomed--can he keep up the bloom in his latin routine? I hope so. This showdown just got interesting!
Scores: 9+9+9=27

Evan & Anna
Dancing: Foxtrot
Song: "I've Got the World on a String"

Judges Say: "We saw a completely different side. The happy-go-lucky, fun side. Absolutely wonderful." - Len
"You were as high as a kite out there! That vivacity, that vitality. I haven't seen something like that since Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney." - Bruno
"Sometimes when the movement is so pristine, we lose the connection to the dancers. I felt the connection tonight." - Carrie Ann
I Say: The judges wanted Evan to let go and embrace the moment, and he did just that--and more. What a sweet, classy, energetic, lovely routine. Evan's got the world on a string, he's got those leaps down pat--and, if I have anything to say about it, he's got a finalist spot in the bag.
Scores: 10+9+10=29

The Latin Round:

Erin & Maksim
Dancing: Paso doble
Song: "You Got The Look"

Judges Say: "You are a hot chick with an attitude. Tonight has turned into a feast. Another breakthrough. Your performance was stunning." - Bruno
"That's what it feels like to be in your power. Maks, really beautiful choreography." - Carrie Ann
"I don't know what to make of it. I'm a traditionalist, this is a funky monkey type of paso doble. I'm confused, really. You're a talented dancer ... " - Len
I Say: This felt very much like a last, balls-to-the-wall effort to show America why these two deserve a final shot at the mirror ball trophy. And it definitely convinced me.
Scores: 10+9+10=29

Nicole & Derek
Dancing: Cha-cha
Song: "Kiss," Prince

Judges Say: "It all comes so naturally from you ... but I know it doesn't. Congratulations." - Carrie Ann
"We're looking for who deserves to be in the final next week, and you need to be there." - Len
"You are the sexylicious purple queen of the cha-cha-cha." - Bruno
I Say: I have this huge, soft, purple, glittery spot in my heart that is reserved specifically for Prince. And now, I think, I have to concede a little bit of that space for Nicole and Derek for such a Prince-tastic performance. Fun, retro but totally fresh. Loved it!
Scores: 10+9+10=29

Chad & Cheryl
Dancing: Samba
Song: "Alejandro"

Judges Say: "As soon as we get a samba, all the men have to take their shirts off. You got a rough deal tonight, because you had the toughest of the Latin dances. For a tough dance, you did a great job." - Len
"I'm torn between admiration and bitter envy. You got it right. I had fun with it." - Bruno
"Your technique hasn't quite matured like everyone else, but that's because you started at a different location. You light up the room. Everyone was smiling." - Carrie Ann
I Say: Sexaaaaaay! Check out this steamy, sexy blossom of a dancer we have here now. Chad has personality in spades, and his dancing has finally caught up to his energy. It's downright infectious. I think the judges are right to applaud his growth and ability to work the room. Technique is always the ultimate goal, but it's nothing without fun and charisma.
Scores: 8+8+9=25

Evan & Anna
Dancing: Paso doble
Song: "Bring Me to Life," Evanescence

Judges Say: "Strong yet artistic. The best elevation we've seen in a paso doble this season." - Bruno
"Normally your movements are so beautiful, tonight they were gutteral, like pa! Pa! Pa! I loved it." - Carrie Ann
"The paso doble is the man's dance. The man should dominate. It is so difficult for a celebrity guy to dominate the professionals you did it." - Len
I Say: All the stars are going balls to the wall tonight, and, like Bruno said, Evan just proved he had BALLS! He channeled all that energy and emotion he's been holding back all season long and just shot it like a lightning bolt into an urgent, visceral, passionate paso doble.
Scores: 10+10+10=30

Final Thoughts and Leaderboard

The Leaderboard:
Nicole & Derek: 29+30=59
Evan & Anna: 29+30=59
Erin & Maksim: 27+29=56
Chad & Cheryl: 27+25=52

Wow--for the first time this season, I can honestly say there wasn't one performance I could call a weak link. Chad is at the bottom of the leaderboard, but only a pair of 8s sunk him down to a very respectable, very well-deserved 25 on his difficult samba.

Who earned your votes? For his ability to let go and embrace the emotion of his routines, I will be bestowing some of my votes on Evan--and because I want to see what she and Maks have in store for the finale, and she's shown such exciting growth even in just the last couple of weeks, I've got a vote for Erin, too. Nicole and Derek were sheer perfection, per usual, and if they're not in the finale we're all taking crazy pills and need to be committed to Dancing psych ward. Then again ... Chad Ochocinco probably represents the MOST growth from the beginning to the end of the season, and tonight he really blossomed and held his own. I don't want to see him go, either!

I may just have to disperse my precious votes evenly. I'm so confused! What do you guys think? Who should go home tomorrow night? Who DESERVES to go home? Let's talk it out.

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 9 - Dance Night, May 18th.

- Things are looking great for Team Nicole and Team Evan!
- Looks like Chad is leaving on a high note. Good for him for improving so much from a bad couple of early weeks.

'Dancing with the Stars' Live Results: It's Miley! ... And Our 3 Season 10 Finalists
Tuesday, May 18, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

It's almost finale time! Last night on Dancing with the Stars, our four Season 10 finalists gave it their all by each performing the one Latin and one ballroom dance style they'd yet to tackle this season.

And, for the most part, it was a night of complete domination. They obliterated those dances--in a good way. They MURDERED those routines and then raised them from the grave and made angels out of those dances. R.I.P. Dance Angels, but you have gone to a better place--and that is my eyeballs. It was a sight to freaking see.

And after this dance-blogger saw it, she had no clue which of the four finalists she would like to see NOT go to the final three. Sure, her readers were pretty dead-set on seeing Chad Ochocinco turn into Chad Ocho-sink-o. But Chad's got cajones, and an 8-pack and most importantly (apparently, though I'm stuck on the 8-pack) a growing repertoire of technical skills with an ever-present charisma. She isn't sure the middling Erin Andrews could pull off a victory next week, so why not just say goodbye to her now? But the promise of an all-or-nothing routine choreographed by the all-but-naked Maksim Chmerkovskiy is too delicious to pass up. And then there are Nicole Scherzinger and Evan Lysacek: the early front-runners turned semi-finalists, soon to become the Lee vs. Crystal dancing equivalent, and perhaps fated to inspire the same amount of viewer-boredom when their all-too-predictable rivalry comes to a head. Wouldn't things be more interesting if we took one of them out of the mix now and boosted up our underdogs? Or would that be a sacrilege Dancing with the Stars (and us voters) might never live down?

Just some things to ponder as we patiently await tonight's elimination results, and impatiently watch Miley Cyrus writhe around in a bird cage while we do it. Time for Dancing with the Stars Semi-Finals RESULTS! "Liiiiiive!"

While you wait, why don't you check out our exclusive interview with Cheryl Burke? And then sign up to win a trip to L.A. and a free dance lesson with her, because how freaking cool would that be? (Way freaking cool, that's how!)

RESULTS:

Right off the bat, Tom and Brooke reveal the first Season 10 Finalists:

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya!

Yay! He was my pick from the beginning, and I'm so happy to see Evan make it to the finals. He started strong but has still grown so much this season.

Encore, Encore!
And then, to top it off, Len asks to see that "fantastic paso doble" of Evan and Anna's once again.

Sarah McLachlan performs. Melissa Rycroft and Joey Fatone dance. Two college dance teams perform. Yadda yadda yadda.

And then ... IT'S MILEY!
If you didn't hear her the first time, she "can't be tamed." (Except by ABC and their parent corp., a little company named "Disney," who own her life rights.) But look! She's like a BIRD! And look: Is that a Wizard of Oz flying monkey behind her?

RESULTS:

The second couple joining Evan and Anna in the Season 10 Finals:

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough.

Well ... duh! But a very well-deserved duh, of course.

The BOTTOM TWO:

Erin Andrews and Chad Ochocinco.

WHO'S ELIMINATED?

Len Goodman says that "under normal circumstances," both Chad and Erin would be in the finals this season. But only one can live to dance another day, and it's ... Erin Andrews.

Which means CHAD OCHOCINCO has been eliminated.

Chad thanks everyone and says that in his eyes, he's already won. Awwww! And I bet Cheryl feels like she did too: with a diamond ring and diamond necklace to show for her hard work, who needs a mirrorball?

Well, it panned out the way you all thought it would, and, as much as I'll miss Chad's bravado, it looks like we've got the three rightful finalists in their rightful spots.

Will it come down to a Nicole vs. Evan dance to the death, or will Erin surprise them--and us--and give them a run for their mirrorball? I'd love to hear your thoughts, and I'll be here next week to watch it all play out.

Until then, a question for my dedicated DWTS fans this season: which were the BEST and WORST routines of this season? We'll be coming at you with our lists later this week, and would love to get your input. Comment away!

Dancing With The Stars, Season 10, Week 10 - Dance Night Part 1, May 24th.

- Good for Erin for improving so much from a bad couple of early weeks. Great first dance made them surprise leaders, but their not-as-great Freestyle where she rolled around on a couch and a bed opened the door for Nicole to catch up. I said to myself "Erin's not dancing enough!" - Tied for First place.
- Things are looking great for Team Nicole! If she didn't miss her move to get on top of Derek's shoulders, she could have won the night. Tied for First place.
- Seems like Chad and Anna should have realised that choreography that is not traditional or not precise wouldn't please Judge Len. Their first dance left them in last place. Their Freestyle dance was fast and wild rather than fast and precise. Last place.
- I doubt that Erin can maintain the high level performance in Dance Night Part 2.

'Dancing with the Stars' Live Recap: Final Performances, Part 1
Monday, May 24, 2010
Meghan Carlson
Senior Writer, BuddyTV

This is it, Dancing fans! Tonight, our three season 10 finalists -- Evan Lysacek, Nicole Scherzinger and Erin Andrews -- will perform their final routines to earn your votes. Each couple will perform two routines tonight: an original "redemption dance" in a style selected by the judges, and a dance in the always-entertaining "freestyle" category. For their redemption dances, the judges have selected the samba for Erin and Maks, the Viennese waltz for Evan and Anna, and the rumba for Nicole and Derek.

Notably, the judges didn't select the samba for Evan, the dance that dropped him to the bottom of the leader board for the first and only time. Instead, he'll dance the style he earned 8's with in Week 1. Nicole's "worst" still earned her 8's and 9's in Week 3, and Erin's samba was so spectacular in Week 6 that she hit #1 in my performance rankings and made Carrie Ann scream, "You nailed it!"

All I can say is: "Huh?"

In any case, we're in for an evening of high-caliber performances by three highly competitive stars. Who will win the night? Let's find out ... "Liiiiiiiive!" In the live recap:

It's the finals! Did you know it's the finals? In case you didn't, here's a little visual hint:

Redemption Dance Round:

Erin & Maks
Dancing: Samba

Bruno comes to visit Erin and Maks during their samba rehearsal, and advises her to loosen up her hips. The sign she's improving: Bruno screams "Look at your ASS!" In a good way.

The dance is a sort of meta-contest for Maks and Erin to show off their shimmy power. The carnival background on stage is all too fitting for this fun, flirty routine. It's a fun way to kick off the evening, even though the acting parts distracted me quite a bit.

Judges Say: "I was really studying. The improvement from the last time you danced the samba is fantastic." - Len
"You are hotter than noon in the tropics! We wanted fun, we got it." - Bruno
"You moved yourself up three notches. It was fantastic." - Carrie Ann
Scores: 10+10+9=29

Evan & Anna
Dancing: Viennese Waltz
Song: "Piano Man"

Len joins Evan and Anna in the studio to help him improve his chemistry in this romantic, powerful dance. Between Billy Joel's iconic lyrics, Anna's piano-key dress and Evan's lyricism, which was beautiful to begin with and has only improved over the season, this was an enrapturing routine that flowed magnificently before our eyes.

Judges Say: "Fluidity and lyricism as good as always. I liked to see the connection between you two. I could feel the spark." - Bruno
"It was a beautiful, emotional, enchanting dream. I loved it." - Carrie Ann
"Overall you did a wonderful job." - Len
Scores: 10+9+9=28

Nicole & Derek
Dancing: Rumba
Song: "Lady in Red"

Carrie Ann advises Nicole to appear more vulnerable and emotional this time around in the rumba. She's telling her to do what we've been hoping for all season: to let go of perfection and "live the dance." Does her goal play out despite Nicole's natural perfectionism?

Uhhhh, YEAH. Nicole literally and figuratively let her hair down with this one, and the result was a dance that felt more sensual and intimate than many we've seen from her before. This last lift (at right) was pretty awesome, but its Matrix-like angles kind of took me out of the moment.

Judges Say: "All those edges softened. It was mesmerizing. But I saw the lifts at the ends." - Carrie Ann
"I loved the subtlety of the choreography. Occassionally I again felt there was a little lack of confidence. " - Len
"Sensuality, romance, seamlessly woven into something of surpreme beauty. This was superlative." - Bruno
Scores: 9+9+10=28

Erin just outscored Evan and Nicole--for the first time ever? I think so, but don't quote me. Anyway, the symbolism is significant: it really is anyone's game, and the Freestyle Round will really show what they're made of.

Freestyle Round:

Erin & Maks
Song: "How Do I Get You Alone?"

They're going for a "contemporary, modern" freestyle, and they've brought in Mandy Moore (So You Think You Can Dance) to help choreograph this bedroom drama.

And they weren't kidding. Most of this dance is spent writhing (rhythmically) on top of a bed. Very intimate ... a little too intimate? When Maks is involved, NEVER! (Okay, now I think all of us are over-sharing.)

Judges Say: "You took an enormous risk. It was a mix of emotion and commotion. I liked it, but I didn't love it." - Len
"You put your heart and soul into it. Some steps you pulled off were quite incredible." - Bruno
"I loved the choice. So risky. Maks, you're risking. You just had one stumble. Other than that... " - Carrie Ann
Scores: 9+8+9=26

Evan & Anna
Song: "Footloose"

Evan and Anna had their first tense moment when planning this freestyle, because to Evan it seems like nothing they do will live up to the pressure, and they couldn't agree on how to pull it off. To resolve it, they bring in Bobby Newbury for a fresh perspective to "mesh their styles." The result? A jumpy, high-energy, high-excitement Footloose, cut-loose and at times, too loose, freestyle. It had great moments, but seemed to lack unity, just like Evan and Anna did when they were choreographing it.

Judges Say: "You were demented! I don't know if I was watching Footloose or Screw loose! What you lose is the precision. You went for it, though." - Bruno
"That was ... odd. Great energy, though." - Carrie Ann
"I think you took the path of least resistance. It certainly wasn't what I wanted to see." - Len
Scores: 8+8+8=24

Nicole & Derek
Song: "A Little Less Conversation"

Derek wants "non-stop, high-octane" excitement from start to finish. Nicole's so talented that Derek is even pushing himself to do lifts he's never done before.

Did he do it? Of course he did it! Except for a slight slip when Derek lifted Nicole above his head at the very end, this was a lindy-hop-inspired routine that zoned in on their true partnership and high skill level, but didn't exploit stunts or Nicole's hip-hop background. You can tell they worked hard and truly wanted to entertain us, and they succeeded. Elvis would be proud!

Judges Say: "That's the freestyle we've all be waiting for. You were like a high-octane octopus. You slipped on that last lift, and it killed me." - Carrie Ann
"I saw fun, I saw entertainment. A fantastic freestyle." - Len
"Dazzling creativity! You have pushed the bar so high it's incredible. What you're trying to do has never been done. Ah-MAZ-ing." - Bruno
Scores: 9+9+9=27
