DragonRealms: Features?

An except from 'A Letter To The Parents' about DR

The majority of our games are text-based multiplayer games run by our IFE (Interactive Fiction Engine). Each of our IFE games supports a unique environment in which users role-play (that is, play act) their characters. Like actors on a stage, when players role-play, they assume the identity of the character that they have created, acting as if they were a real adventurer in a strange new world.

If you've ever read Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy or C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia; if you've ever seen the movie "Neverending Story" or Disney's "Fantasia", then you will have an idea what our games are all about. We create fantasy worlds in which players get to pretend to be the characters of the book rather than reading about them. In many ways, our players are writing their own story.

As far as winning the game goes, that is entirely up to the players. They decide what the goals are within the game, and then work to achieve those goals. Some may want to be the most powerful Mage, or the most respected Empath. Some may simply want to play the role of an honorable Warrior who rescues people in distress and combats the evil monsters that invaded the land. Some players measure success by the amount of personal wealth that they amass. In the end, it's the player that decides how their story will play out and what it is they want to achieve.

Many people play our games at the same time, from various online services and the Internet. As players wander around the game, they will encounter other players and be able to interact with them in a variety of ways. Interaction between players can take many forms, from simply sitting in the town square chatting with other players, to working together to solve a puzzle, or heading off into the wilds in search of adventure.

While that is a well-worded introduction to roleplaying games, Navarre, I didn't find any useful feature list in there. =P

I'll see if I can't drag some info out of a fansite or something....

What do you want for features?

I mean, there's a pool you can meditate in and become a fish, there's a waterslide, one or two of the major island boats have casinos....

I'm not sure what kinds of things you want to hear.

Combat and exploration have certain goals you can reach. What other actions in DR can you achieve in? Crafting? Music making? Fishing? Being a professional clown? Gaining an alcohol tolerance? I guess that'd be a feature list.
My suggestion, explore the site. Helped me decide if it was worth paying for or not.

Hmm.. You can craft, make music, fish, be a professional clown, and even work on your alcohol tolerance, as Luciro suggests.

As the 'letter to the parents' explained.. you can do whatever it is you wish to do. Hunt, explore, pvp, gamble, study, teach, cure, heal, steal, pillage, rape.. ok.. well .. no raping. Start a business, buy a ship and become a pirate, .... master magic.. train animals.. whatever you wish to do. Smoke samatak all day and never get out of bed ... just like some RL folks.

What do you want to do?

If the "Letter To The Parents" didn't help, then I'm guessing he probably wants to know about the technical features, like how combat works or what the crafting system is like, stuff like that. Anyway, I've never played an MUD, so I'm obviously not able to answer his question. Get to it guys! ;)

Technical details and hard numbers are really what I'm after, though some of the things you all listed are very intriguing.

You can be:

an alchemist (making healing salves, tinctures)
a master forger (making chain/plate armor [mostly Paladin types] or weapons [Barbarians- rawr!]
a professional tawyer (skinner) Rangers excel at skinning creatures and making leather armor from the skins
a commander/officer - you can participate in player run militia that are under direct command of GM-run NPCs (princes, barons, outcast kings, etc)
a diplomat - players can be ambassadors to other provinces or other members of court

You can swim, climb trees and other obstacles, fish, steal from players, NPCs, and shops! Ever see something you wanted but can't afford? With high enough stealing you can swipe it from right under a shopkeeper's nose.

Aye, there are player owned/controlled ships. Other crafts are always going back and forth from the islands, there are ferries and barges that traverse smaller bodies of water (rivers/lakes).

Each guild has unique spells/abilities.

You can fold origami, embroider containers and clothing, own/train a horse, joust, participate in plays, dart leagues/tournaments, archery tournaments. Be a spy, turn the tides of war, make a pig of yourself at a picnic. Hold an auction (either items OR people!) Buy/decorate a home, everything from a shanty to a chateau (note - must have premium account to own a home :()

What have I forgotten?

Ahh well what do you want to do in your escape life? Heal? Be an Empath. Restore life? Cleric's for you. Go berserk in combat? Barb! Sing a little ditty! Bard! Zap things with your special powers? Warrior mage Predict the future and manipulate gates to other places/planes? Moon mage Make a killing (moneywise?) Trader or Thief heheh Wear heavy armor and protect your fellow adventurers? Paladin all the way!

*pants* I'll probably remember more later.

now if only Simu would say: "we are delayed because we try to implant all this DR stuff in HJ, and are picky about the details"

But I guess it aint gonna happen...

..why am I not playing DR myself? (or, GS)
