... haven't I mentioned countless (not really but not important here) times that I'm not good with cliffhangers?!

and then that one ... NOOOOOO!!!!!

the last couple of chapters have been just wonderful, so no worries... and I promise I will remember to be more reviewing from now on (when offline life allows me to ...)

keep on writing and I think an update on In the Back might not be that far away anymore ... I just suck at the whole typing up thing....

Micheal you better put a bullet in her head and then be done with it!! Great update, can't wait for the next chapter

hope you like!

chapter
Falling Too Deep.

Micheal watched his heart pounding, as Rowena's fingers neared the deadly switch.
"No. . .Dont do it. . ." he said shaking his head.
She looked up at him, a taunting smile on her lips.
"Go ahead Micheal. . Shoot me. . .You just dont have the guts. . " she laughed creully.
His jaw tightened.
"I would have the guts. . .For Sydney. . ." he murmured.
"Im so glad youre here Micheal. . .
Now you get to see your little girlfriend die. . ." she snarled as her fingers moved to the switch.
Micheal fired at her.
He watched as she stood still for a moment, shock visible in her eyes.
Then she made a desperate grab for the switch and Micheal fired again.
Again. . And again.
He watched almost emotionlessy as she fell to the floor.
His fingers trembled as the the gun fell from his limp fingers.
He had killed her. . .
But what really mattered?
Was that Sydney was still alive.
That he had saved her.
He ran up to Sydney then, as he frantically undid the harsh leather straps that had held her prisoner to the bed.
"Oh Syd. . " he whispered as she immediately flung her arms around him crying.
"I thought. . .I thought i never was going to see you again. . ." she sobbed as she clung to him.
His heart twisted at her words.
"I know. . .Me too baby. . .But its over now. . .
Everythings gonna be okay. . " he whispered soothingly as he rubbed her back gently.
After a long while of just holding her in his arms and whispering words of comfort her sobs subsided.
She looked up at him, her tearstreaked face suddenly filled with hope.
"Is it really over?" she asked desperately needing to hear this from him again.
He nodded as he gently soothed the hair away from her face.
"Yes sweetie. . .Its over. . .
Now its just you. . .And me. . .And happy times together. . ." he whispered.
She smiled softly at him.
"That sounds good. . ." she whispered.
Then her eyes widened.
"I . . .I messed your shirt. . " she said sheepishly as she pointed to the tear stains on his shoulder.
He cupped her face almost reverently as he gazed at her.
"Syd. . You mean the world to me. . .
Do you really think i'd care about some shirt?" he murmured.
She shook her head and smiled.
"No. . .Micheal. . .I love you." she said suddenly.
He smiled warmly so grateful to hear those speacial words from her pretty mouth.
"I love you too. . Sydney." he whispered before, he leaned forward and lovingly captured her lips with his.
Nadia, her fingers trembling, reached inside her coat pocket and retrieved her phone.
She shakily dialed the number for her father, Arvin Sloane.
Never in her wildest dreams had she thought this day would come. .
"Sweetheart?" her father answered nearly immediately.
Nadia sobbed quietly into the phone.
"Dad. . .I've done something terrible. . ." she whispered.
"Sweetheart listen to me.
Whatever it is tell me now. . " he demanded trying to make his voice as soft as possible.
She sniffled on the other end.
"Dad. . . I've just killed someone. . . ."
* * *
Micheal had taken Sydney back home to his place.
Sydney reached into her bag and without knowing it, did exactly the same thing her sister had done.
She called her father.
"Sydney. . .Where are you?
Are you okay?" Jack sounded worried.
Sydney drew in a deep breath.
"Yes. . . Im okay Dad . . .But Rowena. . "
"I know. . .Nadia called me and told me." Jack said quietly.
Sydney sighed silently.
She was glad she didnt need to rehash the entire miserable experience to her father.
"Sydney. . I've spoken to Direct Kendall. . .
Micheal Vaughn's name has been cleared."
Sydney glanced up and at that moment her eyes locked with Micheal's who sat on the couch opposite her, watching her intently.
She felt relief course through her at her fathers words.
There was no way she was going to lose Micheal, after all they had been through together.
"Thanks dad. . ." she whispered.
"Its okay sweetheart. . ."
He then hung up and Sydney stared at the phone suddenly realising for the first time, that her father hadnt told her to be careful, like he always did. . .
She stood up shakily and made her way over to Micheal.
He quickly stood up, just as she began to sway.
He gently caught her in his arms, smiling at her.
"You need to rest." he whispered.
She nodded.
She looked up as if too say, 'Upstairs' but much to her surprise, he shook his head.
"No. . .This place has just too many bad memories. . ."
Sydney had to agree wholeheartedly with him on that.
"But where do we sleep?" she whispered.
He smiled and brushed a lock of hair away from her face.
"I've got this apartment overlooking the Central Park. . " he suggested.
She smiled and snuggled closer to him.
"That sounds great. . " she whispered still amazed at how he could almost read her mind.
Or maybe. . .They thought alike?

A few hours later. .

Nadia sat in the comfortable chair next to Eric's bed, her eyes fixed on his face, as she held his hand.
After she had called her father, he had wasted no time in sending a helicopter to pick her up and an ambulance to take Sark to the nearest hospital. . .
Or Nadia feared, the morgue.
Now as she sat her at Eric's side she couldnt help but think that all she wanted to do was leave the CIA.
Suddenly all she wanted was a happy. . .And peaceful life with the man she loved.
Smiling softly she reached forward and gently caressed his forehead.
The doctors had told her that when he had been conscious a few hours ago, he had been constantly asking to see her.
'Well im here now baby. . ' she murmured sweetly.
Just then her cellular phone rang, pulling her out of her blissful reverie.
She dug around in her purse for it and frowned when she saw the caller ID.
It was a strange number she didnt recognise.
"Nadia." She answered it.
"Agent Santos?" the voice asked.
Nadia nodded barely holding back a grimace.
She didnt want to be 'Agent Santos' anymore.
"Yes. . .What is it?" she asked heavily.
"Apparently the CIA ambulance, carrying the body of a Mr Sark, has crashed. . .
The body of the man has disappeared and the driver and paramedics were killed in the crash . . " the voice continued.
Nadia froze, her entire body breaking out into a thin sheen of sweat.
"But. . . .But. . He was definately dead. . " she mumbled as horrific images of Sark swam in her mind.
"Oh dont worry about him,
the ambulance crashed near a mountain so that probably explain his absense. . " the voice reassured her.
"An anyway we have reason to believe that the Driver was under the influence of alcohol. . Which would explain the cause of the accident."
Nadia shoulders sank in relief.
"Well thank you. . ." she mumbled and after saying goodbye the man hung up.
Nadia looked over at Eric and much to her delight she saw his eyelids flutter.
"Nadia. . .What was that?" he mumbled.
She shook her head and smiled at him as she walked up to the bed.
"Nothing Darling. . .Nothing at all." she assured him.
Her past was finally behind her now. . .
