Fox Greenlights Manhattan Werewolves Dramedy, Bitches

Four female werewolves prowl New York City in a new series being developed for the Fox television network. The show, titled Bitches, is the brainchild of writer Michael Dougherty (Superman Returns, X2: X-Men United).

Updating ancient supernatural beasts for the modern world clearly worked for Hollywood in 2008, judging from the success of Twilight and HBO's True Blood series.

Now, "werewolves are the new vampires" seems to be gaining traction as a go-to premise for studio executives. Besides Bitches, Benicio Del Toro (pictured) revives the 1941 horror classic as The Wolf Man, set for April release, while Twilight sequel New Moon will keep werewolves in the spotlight when it opens in late 2009.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the quirky urban fairy tale Bitches will be executive-produced by Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts (TV's Pushing Daisies).
