One of the staples of many sci-fi pieces over the years has been the connection between aliens and our radio & tv broadcasts; just think some of the countless scores where aliens learned about us from watching & listening to our airwaves. Well, those days might be over. There is an interesting article on New Scientist that deals with the fact that digital is rapidly replacing radio and as such our transmissions to the stars is decreasing. When the whole world is digitized there won't be much of a homing beacon left for the aliens to follow.
