HJ release set to N/A

I just notised that HJ isnt on the "Upcoming MMORPG Releases"-list any longer over at mmorpg.com (12 games closest to release). The realeasdate used to be 2007 but now it´s changed to N/A.

At the end of 2005 I got the feeling HJ was very close to release and I followed it closely. I never missed the weekly update on mmorpg (clicked F5 thousands of times every thursday). I made all my friends interested in the game, showed all the fancy screens and told them all I knew about the planed features.

Then it went silent...

Lately we started to get some new updates, tiny bits and pieces. But recently I got the feeling HJ Isn't even close to toilettraining. All classes isn't described as yet and almost no new gamecontent released. The biggest news since the "radio silnence", as Simu called it, was that to make the Suwari an expansion race (and that info was confirmed after rumors started to flow at HJ official forums, so it wasn't even a official game info update). All my friends that used to like my stories about the game has lost interest and Im not even sure what type of game Hero's Journey is anymore nor if it's even close to what I've been waiting for so long (since the begining of 2004).

I know a few sees the increasing number of HJ-Name as a "good sign", but sadly it doesn't work for me. I wanna se more of the game and less more GM's, to be honest.

...oh well, enough whining (:|

I had several of my friends very intersted in HJ for a while. ...Now they've moved on to other games that have since come out and probably won't switch since they tend to stick with a single mmo for a while. Unless of course, HJ is so extremely delayed that they are done with the game they are on by the time it comes out.

I'm in the same boat. I'm most likely going to go with Spellborn when it comes out, and unless it's absolutely terrible, I'm planning on playing it at least as long as I've played WoW (3+ years).

As much as I look forward to HJ and plan on playing it when it comes out, I hardly pay any attention to it :/

Tabula Rasa, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Spellborn, Aion all good games that I'll enjoy in the meantime. Unless I'm really engrossed in my current game I'll still play HJ as soon as it launches.

I'd say if it launches but Pinn would gnaw my arm off. I've seen her do it to Vahsyl *hides*

I think, at this point, if they delay much longer they're going to start encroaching on the cycle of constantly having to remake the game, because as time marches on, expectations change and people lose interest.

It's like Warcraft Adventures: Lord of The Clans. It would have been a great game, and they worked hard on it, but when Blizzard looked at what they had and compared it to the gaming world, they realized they were a few years too late for it to really work, and they'd have to redo everything, so they scrapped it.

I'm not saying I really think this is a perfect analogy, or that the same thing will happen to HJ. I'm just saying I have that nagging part of my mind which does seem to hint at the possibility, however remote.

I'm looking at Pirates of the Burning Sea also, as well as Darkfall. I'm honestly not sure if I'd switch once I got into one of them- I tend to be loyal to a single game for a long time. It would really depend on just how good they are.

Edit: I've also heard that White Wolf (who has now merged with the makers of EVE online) is working on a World of Darkness MMO. Having played/storytold their p&p systems for many years, and having loved the last WoD game (Vampire: Bloodlines), I could easily see myself delving into it.

I still click on the Hero's Hall icon in my favorites list every day. I know many thought I hd dropped off of the face of the world or that I was just a figment of their imagination the entire time like Brad Pitt in Fight Club. BUT... I'm still here. I just don't ever post. :( Still waiting...

Well, someone began complaining that it wasn't 'fair' that MMORPG had a release date of 07 and the game hadn't made beta as of yet so it was highly unlikely that the 07 date would be met.

MMORPG apparently agreed with the notion, though not as much is said by them, and removed the 07 release date.

To be honest, I hadn't heard of HJ until around this time last year. I saw a posting a school about GM world building opportunities and that's when I joined HH and read all I could about the game.
I don't keep up with upcoming MMOs much anyway so that's my lacking of knowing.
My interest is really high for HJ so I'm hoping that the possibility of it being scrapped doesn't happen.
Who knows, by the time HJ is released Neverwinter Nights 3 will be also =D

Personally, I feel that if I get the Content Writer position I'm looking at, I won't really mind how long it takes to get the game out, because I'll be working on it myself. Therefor, Onilink, I don't quite think you're in the same boat as many others. *winks* Nor will I be, for that matter, if fortune is with me.

Still, a part of me does want the game to still be a fair way off for various reasons. Namely, 1) I'd like as much time as possible to utterly master the game lore should I become a GM, and 2) I also want the game to be the best it can be at release.

Point.

Counterpoint:

Team Fortress 2 was delayed significantly, largely because it went through several different redesigns. For example, it was, at times, photorealistic, a vast difference from the current incarnation.

It's all about hitting that sweet spot, between putting as much time as needed to get a design perfect, and waiting too long to the point where you need to redesign the game itself entirely.

True, but if I never applied, my interest would still be relatively fresh compared to the lot of seasoned HH members. Your right though, working on the game is different then for those who aren't.
Also, if I never applied, I'd see, like so many others, the (recently) NA release stamp and pay no mind to its updates and such and would've continued playing FFXI.

That's exactly why I lurk more than post anymore, because a lot of my opinions on things concerning HJ WOULD be seen as hypocritical or just not seeing what the public sees.

However, I want HJ to release just as much as the rest of you. I want to be able to play in it's wonderful world with my friends. Seeing it set to NA is just as disappointing to me as to others.

I'd also like to state that working on a game and playing a game are two very different entities. Both enjoyable in their own way, but neither the same at all. Because of this, even a GM on the team could be wishing just as hard as anyone else for it. The difference? There's less of a possibility of waning interest so we just can't move on. It's only better in the way you look at it.

Now, all that probably didn't make much sense as I JUST woke up, but I mean every rambling bit. I still feel like one of you waiting people, even from where I am, but it's really stunk because I can't talk like it.

Maybe if we could just have a percentage of doneness that is updated semi-monthly. I dunno, that's probably asking a lot. I'd almost become a GM just so I can see myself how done this game is; if only to know myself... sigh...

If I become a GM, I will try my darndest to get people more information. I couldn't break NDA, of course, but maybe I could badger people in the right places about letting me be an official source of hints and tantalizing ambigious phrases and whatnot.

If I were a GM, in all my signatures I'd have text super small, same color as the background, or otherwise covertly imbedded with the % of doneness to the game...

I've tried this, to some extent. No dice. Anything of any value any GM could reveal would be against the NDA we signed.

We are working. Things are progressing. All aspects of Hero's Journey (content building, art creation, story creation, game systems, etc.) are much further along than they were a year or even a few months ago. La la la.
I want to play, too.

Heh. Alright, alright. It just seems silly that absolutely nothing is being said about anything, at all, for months and months. I wouldn't think that would be conducive to maintaining strong relationships with one's fanbase. I suppose I'll learn to live with it though, if I get in.

Or are we rabid enough goofballs and weirdos that it doesn't really matter?

Also, since you can't give us anything of value, how about things of no value? Cryptic screenshots?
