Hotlinking: DON'T DO IT!

When there is an image hosted on AllAlias.com, and you directly link to it from another site (directly linking in the sense that instead of just posting the URL to the image, you embed the image in the other site) this is called hotlinking. Hotlinking waste's AllAlias.com server resources. It can unneccesairly slow down the site for those who are actually loading a page on AllAlias.com itself.

Because of this, hotlinking is not allowed.

This has been true in the past, but this rule has not been obeyed.

So now we are forcing enforcement. If an image hosted on AllAlias.com is requested by somone on a page other than that of an AllAlias.com site, they will not recieve their image. In place of it, they will get this:

This is meant to inform people of WHY the image won't load. The URL mentioned (allalias.com/hotlink) redirects to this thread.

Along with this, please remember that

• Most images (including the team icons and some emotions) on AllAlias.com are copyrighted. This means it is ILLEGAL to save images from AllAlias.com and use them on your site without the express permission of the author and/or AllAlias.com.
• AllAlias.com is not a means for you to solicit your website, forum, product, etc.

If you want to use a picture on another site, then upload it to that site.

BTW: Image repalce seems to be working now.

What we are saying is you should NOT:

1. Upload an image to AllAlias.com for use as your sig. The URL for the image is http://allalias.com/the_image.gif

2. You decide that in addition to using that sig at AllAlias.com, you want to use it at AnotherForum.com

3. You embed the image uploaded to AllAlias.com (http://allalias.com/the_image.gif) in your signature at the other site:

[IMG]http://allalias.com/the_image.gif[/IMG]

4. Whenever someone at the other site visits a thread you posted in, AllAlias.com has to serve them your signature. This can slow the site down and waste our resources.

INSTEAD YOU SHOULD:

1. Upload the image to AllAlias.com (http://allalias.com/the_image.gif)

2. Save the image to your hard drive if it's not already there

3. Upload the image to the other site (anotherforum.com domain name is for sale. Inquire now.)

4. Embed the image on the other site into your signature on the other site:

[IMG]http://anotherforum.com/the_image.gif[/IMG]
