Web Stuff How much are you willing to pay for an addon?

First, let me clarify, no, I'm not asking for my personal research as I have vowed to never get back into the game of selling addons ever again! :P

Lately there has been some grumbling about how paid addons there are for XenForo and how much they are. Typically I don't pay attention to the grumblings because if I think something is useful, or is something I really want to play around with on my test install to check out, I'll pay the price.

To give an example of an add-on that being deemed as too expensive is Rock, Paper, Scissors. Yes, the game that people play with their hands. When it was first released it was listed at $50 USD. It appears to be a well done add-on with a lot of options but, at the end of the day, it is $50 USD for a single-function game. Within a few hours of releasing it the developer dropped the price to $35 USD.

Just how much are you willing to pay for addon? Do you have a rule of thumb, like no more than X percent of the cost of the forum purchase price, or no more than X amount of dollars? What's the most you've ever paid for an addon?

My first thought when I saw Rock, Paper, Scissor was that $50 was too expensive, don't get me wrong it looks like a quality release and the author has released some very good addons. I didn't know it had been reduced, I've not revisited the resource.

This week I finally took the plunge and bought sonnb's gallery addon - I think that is money well spent. And a few weeks ago I bought both Stocktrader and Sportsbook and I'm considering Showcase but I'm not sure I have any real use for it yet. Another good purchase was Snog's TMDb Movie Thread Starter addon - again money well spent but I don't think I would pay $20 for another of Snog's releases Style Statistics.

In the past on vBulletin I spent a lot of money on DBT addons and things like vBSEO - I even remember spending "quite a lot" on a blog called vBlogetin or something silly like that for vB3.x - it wasn't in development for very long before the coder abandoned the project.

I don't know what my limit would be, it depends on how good the addon is, the author's reputation - future development and support and how much my member's would use it.

I'm not sure what my most expensive purchase has been - probably something by DBT or possibly vBTube but I probably wouldn't spend more than $80 on anything no matter how good it was (which is probably quite a low price compared to what some people would spend for custom made addons).
