And Yes I'm the same Katy

Author's Note

Trust me. NOTHING will happen between Vaughn and Hailey. That would be nasty. NOTHING HAPPENS! Just wait and see what happens next. ;) All will be good.

Update soon. I think I'm going to post chapter 3 and the epilogue (Since it's so short) together. So this will be the end. ;)

Okay! This may make more sense, too.

Vaughn liked Hailey, because she reminded him SO MUCH of Syd. He misses Sydney and is looking for a Sydney Substitute. I know, I know, it's still really, really wrong. I thought so, too. I'm just a freak.

Hailey had been getting ready for her date for the past hour. Sydney smiled at her daughter’s nervousness. Sydney figured that Michael must be very good-looking.

The doorbell rang.

Sydney answered the door. The smile she had on her face faded.

“Vaughn?” She asked incredulously.

“Sydney?” Vaughn gasped. “What are you doing here?”

”I live here.”

”I must have the wrong address then.”

”What?” Sydney asked.

”I had a date. This is where I was supposed to pick her up.”

”A date? What about Lauren?”

Vaughn sighed. “We separated the day before you left.”

Sydney bit her lip. She felt stupid now. She could have had Vaughn if she had waited a little longer.

“I did look for you.” Vaughn said, knowing Sydney was probably wondering. “It drove me crazy that I couldn’t find you. It took me a long time before I could accept that you weren’t coming home.”

Sydney didn’t know what to say.

”I’ve really got to go, but now that I know where you live I might have to come visit you. Catch up...” Vaughn smiled.

”That would be nice.” Sydney said; finally get her sense of speech back.

”Do you know any Hailey’s that live around here?”

”Hailey?” Sydney asked.

”Yeah”

“That is supposed live here.”

”Yeah”

”Hold on one sec.” Sydney smiled. Sydney turned around and yelled. ”Hailey Michelle. Come here right now.”

Hailey walked out,”What mom?”

”Mom?” Vaughn gasped.

“Michael” Hailey smiled at him.

”Hailey, you cannot go out with him.”

”Why not?”

”He’s old enough to be your father.” Sydney said.

”He’s only like 40, right?”

”Try 54.” Sydney sighed, frustrated.

”Seriously?” Hailey asked, looking at Michael.

He nodded. ”You remember how old I am, Syd?”

“Yeah” Sydney blushed.

Hailey looked from her mother to Michael. ”Wait, how do you two know eachother?”

”It’s a long story.” Vaughn started.

”Yeah, too long.”

”Well, why can’t I go out with him?” Hailey asked, clueless.

“You just can’t.”

”Why not?” Hailey sighed, wanting an explanation.

Sydney was getting frustrated. ”Because he’s your father.” Sydney yelled, storming out of the room.

Michael and Hailey were both shocked.

”I need to sit down.” Vaughn choked out.

Hailey led Michael to the couch. “Wow.” They both mumbled.

”I’m going to go talk to her.” Hailey said.

”Let me talk to her first.” Vaughn sighed, getting up and walking in the direction Sydney went.

He found her in her room, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Vaughn sat down next to her and wrapped his arms around her.

”How can you even look at me right now?” Sydney cried.

”Syd...”

”I should have told you twenty years ago, but I was scared. I was scared you’d be with Lauren. That you’d be happy... maybe have your own kids. I couldn’t handle that.” Sydney explained.

”It’s alright, Sydney.”

”No it’s not. I should have told you. You shouldn’t have found out this way.” Sydney paused. “You were going to go out with her?”

Vaughn chuckled nervously. ”I searched for you for at least 10 years. When I finally realized I couldn’t find you... I just couldn’t take it. I was depressed. Eric and his wife helped me a lot, but I knew the only cure was you. Instead of searching harder, I began dating young women. They occupied my time. I’d go out on a date or two and break up with them before anything happened... before I got hurt. I’ve just missed you so much. I never stopped loving you.” Michael said, tears pricking at his own eyes.

“I never stopped loving you either. I told you we would find eachother. We always do.”

Vaughn slowly leaned over and kissed Sydney. Their first kiss in over two decades. Their lips met gently at first, but the more they kissed, the more aggressive it got.

”I’ve missed you so much.” Sydney sighed into Vaughn’s lips.

”Me too.” Vaughn smiled, laying Sydney back on the bed.

Sydney was working on the buttons of Vaughn’s shirt when the door creaked open.

”Oh God.” Hailey screamed, disgusted. “Ewww,” Hailey cringed.

“Sorry honey.” Sydney called out.

”I am so disturbed right now.” Hailey complained. “I almost went out with my father and then I walk in on my mom and dad. This is just wrong.”

Sydney and Vaughn smiled at eachother and followed their daughter into the living room.

This was the beginning of a new life for all of them.

[Epilogue]

Sydney watched as Vaughn escorted Hailey down the aisle. She wiped the tears flowing down her cheeks.

It was her baby’s wedding day.

Hailey had found a good, young man that Sydney knew would treat her right the rest of her life. But this was still Sydney’s baby. She didn’t want her little girl to grow up.

Vaughn sat down next to Sydney, tears in his own eyes.

”Our baby is getting married.” Vaughn sighed, grabbing Sydney’s hand. Sydney looked down at their matching rings.

They had tied the knot on October 1st, exactly one month after Vaughn found out the truth. They had waited too long to be together and were not going to waste any time.

Sydney and Vaughn had just shared their six year anniversary a couple months ago.

They cried as they watched the priest pronounce their daughter and her new husband, James, man and wife.

~*~

Hailey and James had been married a year when they surprised Sydney and Vaughn with huge news. Hailey was pregnant.

Hailey and James had a beautiful baby boy that they named after his grandpa. Michael Christian Davis.

Vaughn and Sydney were proud grandparents and saw little Michael as much as they could. Michael was 5 months old when Hailey and James announced that she was pregnant... again.

Over the next three years their family steadily grew. Hailey gave birth to another boy, Daniel James, and a little girl, Katherine Elizabeth.

The family got together often. Wherever they met, one thing was for certain. That house was full of love.

Sydney life was finally perfect.

Fin.

”I am so disturbed right now.” Hailey complained. “I almost went out with my father and then I walk in on my mom and dad. This is just wrong.”
Love that reaction.

I loved this story and am sad to see it end, but what a lovely way to end it.
