ID novel? Colored rings enter different worlds

Hi all! I need help, and the patriarchal Google has let me down. I read a sci-fi novel in the 90s (I think) about a young adult who travels between worlds via colored hoops/rings. Some of them are visible to the general population, but he can see some that are invisible to most.

He jumps through these rings or hoops, and depending upon which color, he enters a different world. The only thing I remember about the plot is that at one point, people who shared his hoop-jumping talent were chasing him through different worlds, I believe.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? I'm asking because I want to read the book again.

No, I don't think that's it, although it looks interesting in its own right. The whole premise of the book is the kid trouncing around, jumping through hoops (rings) and having all sorts of adventures.
