Not too bad, watchable...
I could see a 2nd film might be more interesting if they put more of the action scenes in it.
I just got done watching this one tonight (
yay, Friday night hoagie & a movie
) and thought it was pretty good.
The opening scene reminded me immediately of a lot of FPS shooter games where the player is in a near impossible situation that they need to fight out of and to do so they must rely upon being guided by a voice over their headset. And, of course, when they think they're clear the real danger shows up. I'm pretty sure that is the opening for a good number of FPS games that I've played over the years.
Getting past that the first act made seems to have been heavily influenced by
Ghost in the Shell with some inspiration from
RoboCop. Plenty of action to start with but then it goes into a stretch of backstory drama at a much slower pace before switching back over again to action. It closes out with what appears to be some inspiration from Will Smith's
I, Robot (minus VIKI). I'd also say that there was a touch of Kubrick's
A.I. Artificial Intelligence in there.
One of things that did puzzle me was the Adrian Republic. With just 3 of the 80 shelters breaking off, how were they not outnumbered?
Even though kept thinking about what other movies I'm being reminded of I thought overall it was a good popcorn movie. With the backstory now established I could see a sequel being made that was more action oriented. I know I'd watch it at least.
