Knowing this is a reboot of the franchise and starting off new and fresh again, I still expected to see Jeff Goldblum's character in this one. Maybe just in a cameo or an all new character. He was my favorite in the first 2 films of this franchise. Still this one doesn't sound bad, worth a look I suppose.

Hopefully there are at least a few nods to the original movie, if even in quotes. "Life find a way." Or maybe the UNIX hacking scene. :D
This trailer shows scenes from the movie
Those 'bubble' vehicles would actually be pretty cool for tourist attractions.

kewl concept of the guy riding out escorted by trained attack velociraptors.
I guess most of the 'training' would be getting them not to attack.

First figures in from North America and Jurassic World has had the third highest ever single day in that market with estimates of $82.8 million (includes mid-night Wednesday take)! What did everyone in the U.S go dino crazy Friday?

Meanwhile in Australia we have to wait till Monday to get opening weekend figures, but based off North America my prediction of a $8 million bow for the weekend looks very little light.

I just saw it. Cool dinos but it was just another Jurassic Park.
I actually groaned out loud at some of the scenes recreated from the previous movies.
I found the story shallow. I forgot my watch but when you see it note the time that you see the first dinosaur that is in full scene. I'm figuring not till the end of a third of the movie but the remaining 2/3 makes up for it.
I hope JP5 has a better back story. AND GET RID OF THE STUPID MUSIC!

So many it makes you choke on them.

This is not a reboot it is a continuation. It also sets us up for an additional movie if they choose. It's not a loose end, its a blatant in your face hint of another movie. A Dino-war movie if the hint is the premise.

One thing that got on my nerves is that god-awful theme song. It worked for the first movie but none of the others. It worked in the first to give a sense of Awe. Now it is old and tired.

I just saw the movie in 3d and for the life of me I can't recall many of the scenes before the dinos. That's about 1/3 of the movie. I also felt the ending is lame. Felt like the T-Rex & Raptor were saying "Lets all be friends" or something.

The middle third and the beginning of the last third are everything I had hoped for and more. The creatures were really cool looking and their 'acting' rivaled the human actors.

I found the CGI attention to detail to be absolutely wonderful. I pulled my attn off the main sequence to look at the background and it was detailed, fully rendered and fit the scene.
Example: A steggy watching the action off in the distance.

While we did get to see some humans being munched most of the graphic gory details happened off screen, Just like in every other JP movie.
You knew who was gunna get chomped and who wasn't,
Just like in every other JP movie.
The water glass vibration was replaced with a cell phone as with many other ...'substitutions' of the original movie.

You knew what was going to happen but when it does it looks cool as hell.

The Mozzy was a wonderful treat. We don't see enough movies with a Mozzy in them. Those were incredible creatures. They even got the size about right.
The Raptors were okay, They managed to portray them with personalities even if they were superficial ones. It worked for the story.
T-Rex was awesome as usual. Till the end of the final conflict then it went all stupid.
The Modified Rex, of which the movie follows, was fearsome and smart. I felt the part where his design is dialoged was not needed and actually slowed the pace a little. A Little. That thing was simply bad-assed!
The Birdys were a non-reaction for me. Except the big one you get a glimpse of. There were some Birdys that had the head of a T-Rex or something, Never really got a 'good' look at them but the few glimpses were pretty cool.
The other dinos made brief appearances and the gyro-ball soccer scene was funny.

I liked the movie. If you like the Jurassic Park movie franchise you probably will too. If you want a backstory to dinosaurs you won't get much from it. This is eye candy pure and simple.
It was $23 for two admission. I think it was worth it.

LOL haven't rushed out to see it yet, the trailers pretty much gave it away. Trying for a viewing tomorrow with a couple of the team.

And weekend estimates have JW as the second highest ever opening weekend with a figure of $204.6 million! Astonishing really and completely unexpected.

Aussie figures in for Weekend 1, $16 million! Clearly a lot of pent up support for the franchise.

World wide figures are at a staggering $524 million! Biggest single international opener in history.

So the question is how much is built in anticipation and how much is word of mouth pushing the movie? News from North America was the Saturday and Sunday holds were very good pointing to family business and good WOM thus far.

Monday saw North America add another $25 million for the day.

like Guardians/Galaxy last year; I think there's a huge market for moderately shallow action-oriented entertainment (like the original Star Wars, or Independence Day) as opposed to the hypercomplex stuff (like Green Lantern or John Carter), or the Deep and Profoundly Thoughtful stuff (like the recent Star Wars).
I think the interest in dinosaurs has always been there; kind of surprised H-wood hasn't done more with them. it's not like they've ever hesitated to copy each other.

NOT interested in any more hybrids. ick.

I already figured out the likely name of the next movie in this franchise.

Jurassic War

Ingen isn't about making dinosaurs anymore - they are weponizing gene splicing as indicated in the movie but not proclaimed.

Since I like dinosaurs and monsters I am interested in any hybrid that they can come up with. I like the dinosaur documentaries by BBC but that only goes so far with my imagination. I'll always pay money to see something unique. Jurassic World delivered unique to a point. The hybrid traits were subtle and needed to be explained wasting screen time that could have been used for more dino action. It wasn't a big waste but if the hybrid qualities were more pronounced? Perhaps the next installment will be even better.

Holy cow there is no stopping this one. JW closing on $600 million in North America, $50 million in Oz, and Internationally stands at $1.4 billion. Japanese market yet to open.

Question, is the movie that good?

I haven't seen it yet but my wife & sister went to see it and they both gave it glowing feedback. In short they said that if anybody likes the original JP movies then they should really like this one.
